Porto National Day celebrations?
Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 09:08 AM UTC
We'll be in Porto on June 10, the national day. Will there be anything special going on then? Since we will have a car, should we be aware of any traffic complications?

Porto from Porto airport to Avenida dos Aliados... taxi or metro? there are 4 of us...?
Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 09:00 AM UTC
We are a party of four people flying to Porto to stay in a hotel at Avenida Aliados... now I'm wondering how we should get to the hotel. My questions:

1) is possible for the 4 of us to travel together in one taxi?
2) how much the taxi costs approx. between Airport and Aliados?
3) If we take the metro, are there many stairs? Since we have luggage we would prefer to avoid stairs, but if there are lifts/escalators we should be ok.

Thank you in advance!
Agradeço antecipadamente :)

Porto Staying a few nights in Porto
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 07:52 AM UTC
Thank you for all the tips about Porto. They were all so much help!

I would like to ask if anyone can suggest a good 2 to 3 star hotel in the center? What is the best area to be located in at Porto?

We are a big group. We would like a nice cheap hotel which is not too noisy but has easy access to the city.

Is it not advisable to stay in Rebeira?

Our budget is around 60 Euros for a room for 2 persons.

Thank you,
AL

Porto Tips for a half day in Porto
Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 10:46 AM UTC
Hi all! We are a big group of 15 persons passing by Porto this summer. We only have an afternoon in Porto and leave at noon the next day. I was hoping for any advice or tips to what to do, see and eat in this city. What are the good restaurants to try really good local cuisine(8 to 12 Euros) in the central part of Porto? Can anyone suggest a good 2 to 3 star hotel in the center? What is the best area to be located in at Porto(for walking, restaurants and shops)? What is the best wine tour in Porto that is short but worth dropping by?

Many thanks!

Porto 2 hotels to choose from
Posted: Wed November 21, 2007 11:34 AM UTC
Hello. I am already book with Residence Residencial dos Aliados which is across from the town hall, just off Avenida dos Aliados. It's 50 euro a night. Just read some things about Hotel Peninsular Rua Sa Fa Bandeira, 21 - 4000-433. I read it's really a great location across from the train station and it may be cheaper. Which one is in a better location. We will mostly be hanging out by the river and I do want to go to Via Catarina shopping center. Which hotel is better? And does anyone know if Hotel Peninsular has a website or if I can book it on-line?

Hi! Can anyone recommend a nightclub / disco in Porto where a young-at-heart 37-year-old can dance for hours on Saturday night without feeling old enough to be everyone else's mother? Preferably deep, funky house music.

Thanks

Porto Porto New Year's Eve
Posted: Tue August 7, 2007 09:30 PM UTC
My family and I are planning to spend New Year's Eve in Porto this year and would like some ideas for entertainment for the evening. Could anyone suggest things that we could do?

For Example does Porto have an annual New Year's Eve celebration? Fireworks, or carnival etc?

We think we would like to have a meal somewhere in the city (There will be 13 adults) and then join the city's celebrations.

Could anyone offer any advice?

Porto Andante card
Posted: Mon August 6, 2007 02:46 AM UTC
I'll have five days in Porto. I've read some about the Andante card including warnings posted on this site. What I'm trying to understand is: if I buy 10 + 1 tickets in Z2 for €8.50 and take 9 trips, do I have €1.70 in credit to be used any way, or only 2 Z2 trips? Specifically, could I apply that credit to the €1.35 Z4 trip to the airport? This would be at the end of my stay; I'll be arriving by train.

Porto Porto in a day and a half?
Posted: Sat June 30, 2007 01:43 PM UTC
In about a month, we will be traveling to Portugal for a bit over a week. We will stay two nights in Porto, going from Lisbon by train. We will have one evening on one day and then one full day before departing for Lisbon again early in the morning on the 3rd day.

Does anyone have an itinerary suggestion for Porto that can be done during the day and a half we have there? One thing we do want to do is a tour of a wine place somewhere nearby (which one?), but other than that, we are open to all suggestions as we have never been in Porto (or Portugal) before! We'd love to see as many of the main highlights as possible.

Thanks! :)

Porto Porto restauarant seen on The Amazing Race

I am trying to track down a restaurant seen on Season 3 of the Amazing Race. I believe it is called Retiro dos Carvalhos, but I have been unable to locate any further information. Would anyone know the address and contact info (web or phone) for this restaurant? It was featured in a wine/port delivery task. Many thanks!

Porto How to get from Porto to BUÇACO (Bussaco)
Posted: Fri May 11, 2007 04:42 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm going to be traveling from Porto to the Bucaco Forest. I was wondering what's the best way there? I saw that there were buses from Coimbra, but I haven't found ones from Porto. Do the buses that go from Porto Coimbra stop there? I'll be spending the night in the Bussaco Palace Hotel. Thanks!

Porto Best way to get To and From Porto?
Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 09:26 PM UTC
My husband and I will be participating in an English immersion program in La Alberca (a lovely place) for the 2nd time this September. After that, we need to get from La Alberca to Porto for a Douro River cruise. We have a few over 48 hours to do this.

From the train maps, it appears there is a path, through Salamanca to Coimbra to Porto. Would that be the best way to go or should we try one/more bus rides or even a rental car?

One challenge: my husband travels with a Segway (www.segway.com) to help him get around. Method of transport needs to accommodate it. We have flown with it to/from Madrid and other places and he's used it in La Alberca on the cobblestones and in parks on groomed trails.

After the cruise, we will need to get back to Madrid to catch a flight back to the U.S. I saw some ideas on that here, more?

So the itinerary would be either:

Detroit - Madrid - La Alberca - Avila/Salamanca - Porto - Madrid - Detroit

OR

Detroit - Porto - ?? La Alberca ?? - Porto - Detroit
