New Years in Porto Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 03:42 AM UTC
I'm planning to be in Porto for New Year's Eve but I have no clue what to do or where to go for that night.
Any suggestions of what locals do, where locals have dinner if they decide to go out for dinner in New year´s eve, or does anyone know if restaurants are having specials? any bars suggestions to celebrate?

hi guys,
we are planning on going to Portugal for New Years eve (dec 27 to jan 10) and would like to know a little more about the region.
1-How will be the weather like during this period? too cold? are we going to be able to catch up some beaches?
2-As for the holiday, what is the typical cultural habits of the region?
3- we will be probably flying to Porto or Lisbon, any suggestions of must see areas/destinations in the region?
thank you so much for your help!

Zones in Metro Posted: Mon October 12, 2009 06:08 PM UTC
What ticket should I buy to get from Aeroporto to IPO station with a change in Trindade station?
I can see on the website http://www.metrodoporto.pt/en/PageGen.aspx?WMCM_PaginaId=16730 that there are Z2-Z7 tickets. How it counts?

Driving in Porto Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 07:12 PM UTC
I and my sister are bringing our mum to Porto next week on Holiday. She is not the fittest these days due to an illness, so can only walk very small distances. I am considering getting a hire car for a few days so i can drive her around a bit - make it easier. Now can someone tell me if thats madness and whether i'd be better using public transport and taxi's. I'm aware parking and traffic can be murder in busy cities so wanted some honest advice.
I know it wont be easy but is it worth me getting the hire car, or will i regret it?
Thanks
Nick

From Porto to Lisboa- train or bus? Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 02:18 PM UTC
Hello all,
I am travelling on next thursday from Porto to Lisboa. I will first be flying in by ryanair to the Porto airport, staying one night in the city and then going to Lisboa the day after.
Two very silly questions and I would be grateful for your help:
1. any particular recommendations for a night in Porto? Are there must-sees? Wikipedia gives good ideas but i'd appreciate so much your recommendations...
2. I have been told travelling by BUS is FASTER and CHEAPER than travelling by train. In either case of going by bus or train, is reservation or buying tickets online needed? I have done some reserach, didn't see much; i can read portuguese, but the websites don't seem to say that buying tickets on the day of travelling or buying earlier have much fare differences...
Many thanks for your help!
Rita

Novotel Gaia for the festival of San Joao - location? Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 03:26 PM UTC
Can anyone comment on staying at the Novotel Gaia during for the festival of San Joao in Porto we are a family of 4 and we are traveling with another family of 4. This place seems to accommodate our 2 families.
I am thinking that it might be just as easy to stay here and use transit or taxis to get into the Rebeiro and Porto.
We are also going to take a train/cruise up the Duoro and the port is in Gaia?
Any comments are appreciated

Pre-purchase train tickets? Posted: Sat May 16, 2009 07:43 PM UTC
OK, this has to be one of the silliest questions in the forum. I have to catch a couple of tight train connections, and I usually prefer having my tickets bought ahead of time. Is there any reason why I should *not* pre-purchase?
I've been holding off in case of changes, but now - !!! - the trip is here.
They're early tickets and sometimes the station cashiers don't open in time, plus I don't care to fumble thru the ticket counter if I'm sure where I'm going.
Any thoughts?
Not talking about Cascais tickets, referring to Porto - Pinhao - Lisbon tickets.

Train, bus, or suggestions on getting to Pinhao Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 07:31 PM UTC
I will arrive in Barcelona at 9:05 AM from the US.
The last train from Porto to Pinhao is at 17:15 from Campanha Station.
TAP has a flight leaving BCN at 10:35 direct which arrives Porto @ 11:25 and at 10:40 with layover in Lisbon arriving Porto @ 13:25.
*** I AM not sure that I will make either of those flights with a 9:05 arrival that could be late then go thru customs ***
I have been looking for bus connections from Porto to Pinhao but have not found a link. Thought I had one, but the one I saved is for Braga.
Any suggestions on how to get to Pinhao?

Sailing Douro from Regua back to Porto - how are the views? Posted: Thu April 23, 2009 08:24 PM UTC
I am looking at a day tour from Porto where you take a train to Regua then sail back.
Is this a good stretch of the river, or would you recommend a different direction?
Have you taken any good tours similar to this one?

Where can I find a authentic catholic mass service at Porto? Posted: Thu March 5, 2009 02:15 PM UTC
Hi! I am looking for Catholic churches in Porto, where usually many people (believer) goes and celebrate high mass (with portuguese songs and language)
Do you understand? I do not look for a church where only are lots of tourists and a few locals - I search for an authentic typical portuguese mass with lots of locals and a well-stocked church.
And if you know a church like this, what are the times of mass service there?
Thank you very much in advance!
Best regards,
Passeo

Whitch area is good to book a hotel in Porto Posted: Fri January 23, 2009 10:33 AM UTC
HOw big is Porto centre? Is everything in walking-distance?Where should we book a hotel,if we like it to be not too far(maybe around 2km) from area, where is sigsts and museums(I don´t actually know how much there is those,I will start to search now),but also close to area, where is lots of places to eat at night(I mean around 21 o´clock or little later). We also might consider a flat, but hotels seemed to be cheap!
Another question:someone told us to taste white portwine-is there a company specialised in it,and if so,is it possible to visit?
And third question:(I might find this with google, but here is so friendly helpful people, that I thought to ask this also..):Where will I find train timetables(if possible,in English)we will go to Lissabon.
