Paris Budget room near St. Germain or Latin Quarter
Posted: Fri July 25, 2008 03:51 PM UTC
My wife and I plan to spend 2 nights in Paris in late April or very early May of 2009. This will be a side trip from our annual visit to Maastricht. We are in hopes of finding a budget price room (50-75Euro)located in the St Germain or Latin Quarter. I would appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance.

France Looking for some advice of the south of France
Posted: Thu July 24, 2008 07:14 PM UTC
Hi,

Just wondering if someone could give me advice on where is a fun family location to stay in the south of France that insn't around the expensive areas of St tropez and Cannes.
We have always gone to the Vendee area, but thought we would give the South a go but need to identify a location before I can start sourcing accomodation.
We love water parks and nice beaches, so preferabley a seaside town location, we dont want to be out in the sticks!

If anyone can offer advice I would be grateful, thanks for your time!

France skiing in France
Posted: Thu July 24, 2008 09:21 AM UTC
I'll be in europe up until mid december, and i really want to go skiing in some decent mountains (I'm from australia and our mountains are pretty pathetic).

- does anyone have any recommendations on the best area in the french alps to go, considering that i have a reasonably small budget, will not have a car with me, and have only been skiing a few times in my life before.

- how much would I be looking at to hire full skiing gear for 6 days?

thanks in advance for any responses.

Paris Versailles and Giverney in one day
Posted: Wed July 23, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
I know you can buy expensive tours that do both destinations in one day, but we are a family of 4, and I was hoping for a more economical way to go. We are staying in Paris and I see you can go by Train to Versailles, and then a train with a connector for Giverney, but can you go between them to make both stops in one day and then end up back in Paris for the evening.

Île-de-France Inexpensive places to eat
Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 01:27 PM UTC
Hello,

Me and my friends will be at Paris between 8-18 Aug. and I have been wondering whether there are some decent inexpensive places to have something to eat, 15-20 euros per persons would be great, but up to the 30 euro range for a nice place to eat would also be OK. Some traditional french cuisine within that range would also be great.

Thank you.

Corsica Santa Giulia Bus Service
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 09:59 PM UTC
This year we are holidaying at the Castelle Verde Hotel, Santa Giulia, arriving on the 31st August and would like to know if the bus service to Porto Vecchio continues after the 31st August (If so on what frequency?). Also, are there taxis available to the nearest town? We would prefer not to hire a car (as we want to do as little driving as possible) but we have a one year old son and do not want to be stranded. Any advice on this subject would be much appreciated, thanks.

Thanks.

Corsica want to do it all ... but probably can't
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 04:21 PM UTC
We are plannng 2+ weeks in Corsica next May. We've been reading a lot, and want to see everything, but suspect it's not going to be possible, given how slow the roads are said to be. The places we'd really like to see are Cap Corse; the Balagne; the area around Evisa with all the great hiking; Corte and the interior; Filitosa and Sartene; Bonifacio.

We generally like to stay in a self-catering apartment rather than hopping from hotel to hotel.

So, my questions:
-- Where do my fellow travelers think are good bases from which to see the most of Corsica?
-- Of the places I have listed above, which would you let go if you had to let something go?
-- The self-catering apartments I have seen on the Web are all by the week; does anyone know of places that might be willing to rent for 3 or 4 days in May?
-- Are the bigger roads e.g., N193 Bastia - Ajaccio good fast roads? Is it only the small coastal and mountain roads that take much longer to drive than usual?

Thanks for your help -- and happy traveling!

Paris Train Travel in Paris

Would appreciate advice on whether Carte Orange is available for tourists. Looks like the most economical travel option (we'll be in Paris for 5 days), however it appears one needs to supply a photo to obtain the card.

Thanks/Merci

France Distance calculator
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 12:50 AM UTC
Hi Everyone,

We will be travelling to France next month and doing a little driving (not too much thankfully). I did see a posting quite a while ago which had a link to a road distance calculator and route planner but didn't save the link (dumb!)

Does anyone know of a site where I can enter my location and destination and get an idea of the best travel route and estimated travel time.

Appreciate any ideas you have

cheers :-)

Paris Hotels in Montmarte area
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 08:54 PM UTC
(A)Can anyone recommend a hotel near to Sacre Coeur as we want to visit this area but my husband has Parkinsons Disease so we want to stay as close as possible to where we want to visit. (B)Also can anyone recommend any hotels in the southern end of Paris as we will be going to Moret-Suir-Loing and our friends will collect us from the hotel and the southern area of Paris would be most suitable for them. (C) How would we travel from the Montmarte area to Euro Disney what would be the most convenient way to get there. We have also considered if we were to get to Euro Disney and stay there overnight perhaps this would be a more convenient area for our friends to meet us to go to Moret. Your help and advice would be much appreciated and hotel names. Thank you

Juan-les-Pins Basketball courts in the area??
Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 11:47 PM UTC
I was just wondering where I could find any indoor/outdoor basketball courts in the Juan les Pins/Gulfe Juan area. The courts by my apartment are under construction and I don't know any decent place for my friends and I to go play. I did find another place in gulfe Juan but those courts were for kids (rims were 2 feet lower than they should be).

If anyone could help me then that would be great thanks!

Paris Visiting Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur
Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 08:53 PM UTC
I'll be visiting Paris next month and have been planning to go to see Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur one evening. However, I've just read some not very encouraging things about this area - overly - touristy, full of pick - pockets etc - and am now having second thoughts about going there.
Would be glad to have some advice on this subject, i.e. is it worth visiting there or not?
