Karabagh Travel Question Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 04:55 PM UTC
I think I will be heading off to Karabagh in the middle of May and answers to the following questions will be greatly appreciated:
1. My understanding is that there is no visa requirement for the CIS citizens. Please confirm
2. When looking on the map of Karabagh there is a road that goes there one from the South through Lachin and the one from the North that ends up ultimately at Sevan. Please let me know about this upper road more in details: is it working? is it paved? is it safe? How long it will take to get there say from Mardakert to Sevan?
Merci

Nagorno Karabakh Posted: Sat January 6, 2007 02:14 PM UTC
I'm going to Armenia this spring/summer and I'm a little bit curious of Nagorno Karabakh. Is it worth the detour and (maybe) extra risk, or should I opt for other parts of Armenia instead?
I will certainly go to other parts as well, I'm just wondering if there is something really extra special or spectacular about Nagorno Karabakh, apart from it being the most "extreme" place to visit.

Trip from Erevan to Aelpo Posted: Sun December 3, 2006 11:28 AM UTC
Hi to all...
I have couple of quesitons:
1. Does anyone has an experience of air travel from Erevan to Alepo?
The Armavia web site indicates only a schedule through Dec.31. How should i obtain a new schedule for the next year?
2. Does anyone know about the process of obtaining a visa for Syria at the local embassy? How much it costs? How long it takes?
Thanks,
Rati

Karabagh and Svaneti etc.... Posted: Tue October 24, 2006 01:18 AM UTC
Hi there I need some help please:
I am a 19 year old South African guy and I'm planning a trip to Georgia and Armenia this November. I am an apprentice photographer and want to compile a portfolio. I wish to visit [in particular] Svaneti and Agdam in Nagorno Karabagh. ANY advice from people who have been to these places would be very much appreciated. I have heard of some people who have been to Karabagh although the government does not allow this. I heard there is a risk of being arrested, what sort of consequences would that entail? Can one request to be shown the area with a soldier "guide".
Also I imagine the weather will be rather cold in November right?
Also general info regarding accommodation etc. in the Caucasus is needed - I will be on an extremely tight budget.
many many thanks!

Crossing into Karabagh Posted: Mon October 23, 2006 05:02 PM UTC
Hello,
Do you need a double-entry visa for Armenia when going from Yerevan to Karabagh and back ? I'm aware you need a seperate Karabagh visa.
Thanks,
George

In Armenia in September Posted: Wed August 9, 2006 06:53 PM UTC
I'll be visiting Armenia in September for three days 8th, 9th and 10th coming from Georgia. Can anyone tell me if it is an easy process to get a visa at the border. And can you change money at the border.
Also, I've only got two evenings and one full day in Yerevan. Would you recommend spending all that time in Yerevan or taking a half day trip out? Was thinking of Edchiamidzin in the morning and exploring Yerevan in the afternoon?
And if anyone is in Yerevan on 10th do you fancy meeting up?
Will also be in Georgia from 4th - 8th so if anyone fancies doing some walking around Kazbegi....

Armenia - Azeri conflict Posted: Tue August 8, 2006 06:13 PM UTC
Hello, my friends and I are planning a trip to the region. We are flying into Tiblisi (from Moscow) and want to eventually travel down through Georgia and Armenia to Iran. We were also hoping to make a "stop" in Azerbaijan but we have heard many times that this is not easy because of the conflict between the two countries. We are adventurous and peaceful travellers who just want to see as much of the region as possible. Any opinions?

Car (Third party liability) insurance for Armenia - where to get it? Posted: Fri July 28, 2006 01:02 AM UTC
Hi,
I am about to go to Armenia by private car (from Germany via Turkey and Georgia). My car insurance doesn't cover Georgia and Armenia. I have heard that I can buy insurance for Georgia at the Turkish-Georgian border. Does anybody know if I can buy insurance for Armenia at the Georgian-Armenian border? Or if I can buy insurance that covers Georgia and Armenia (and preferrably Russia) at the Turkish-Georgian border?
Better yet: Does anybody know a company that would sell me this insurance in advance (as mentioned, I am based in Germany).
Greetings
Harald

How are the tour packages offers ? One person offers flat and private tour and ask money to send for the option, Petrossian Ophelie and Patrick. Who knows about these people ? are they a real operator or just private? Can I trust and send money if they ask me to ? Thank you for your answer

Yerevan mid July Posted: Thu May 25, 2006 06:37 PM UTC
Hey everyone!
I am going to go from Georgia to Armenia around July 10th and stay for 4-5 days. I will be by myself (and I am a girl) so if anyone is there at that time and wants to join, or if any locals want to show me around the city (I will treat you to dinner), I would be very grateful. Also, is it safe to take a taxi to see the monasteries surrounding Erevan? If you have any other tips I will appreciate them!
PS I speak both Russian and English.

armenian visa - at the border? Posted: Sat May 20, 2006 05:28 PM UTC
Hello
i have searched online and I have not found the info needed. Offically i seem to have understood that armenian visas can only be issued at erevan airport - which is not going to be my case.
unofficially i have read of a few oeople who managed to buy an armenian visa at the border with georgia. I wonder if anyone has first hand experience on this - or knows something official i may not have found out.
we're traveling on a swiss and on an italian passport, by the way.
thanks for any info

I along a bunch of friends of mine (20 in total on 2 marshutkas) plan to undertake a trip to Armenia. We plan to spend two nights there... Can anyone recommend what are the must sees, except for the following attrractions as we plan to visit them (Garni, Gegart, Khorvirab, Echmiadzin, Lake sevan and two churches there)?
And what are the cheap options for staying an overnight in Yerevan? Does anyone have a telephone for overnight places in Sevan ?

Hi everybody,
I may be posted to Yerevan for a short work placement, I wonder if anyone can let me know if there are supermarkets and shops there which sell Western goods and products (i'm talking about food mainly!)?
It would be cool if you could also let me know if there's any places i should go to or avoid.
Cheers for your help

Armenia later this year, need tips Posted: Mon January 16, 2006 09:29 PM UTC
Hello All,
I'll be in Armenia February 25th thru March 5th. I am currently looking for suggestions on places to visit, places to stay and recommendations on reputable car hires. Currently, I have planned to spend most of my time in Yerevan, doing excursions out from there. Also, I want to visit Tatev so I will spend a couple nights in Goris. If I had my preference, I would like to line up a homestay for my accomodations.
I do not speak Aremenian or Russian, but I do speak English and intermediate German.
I am also open to meeting up with locals. So if you are in Aremenia and want some good conversation, drop me a line. I can be reached at ehazard@yahoo.com Drinks are on me!

Georgia or Armenia that's the question Posted: Fri November 18, 2005 09:34 PM UTC
I know that it is not an easy or common question.
I would like to travel with my family (my wife and children 15,20 and 23 years old) next October to Georgia or Armenia. We are mainly interested in landscapes, day hikes, history (old churches and monatries), rural life.
Since I have only two weeks, I would like to stay in only one country, I will appreciate advise from people who visited these two countries, regarding which country to choose.
What is the difference in prices between these countries?
Where it is easier to travel (we intend to rent a car+ a driver)?

Getting from Yerevan to Tbilisi Posted: Mon November 14, 2005 02:59 PM UTC
Hi!
I would like to know if there is a scheduled bus or train service between these two cities and how often it runs. The cost of such a trip is also interesting for me, since I will be travelling on a budget.
Thanks a lot!
