British Virgin Islands About Cost of Living on the BVI
Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 07:07 AM UTC
Does anyone know the price range about how much it would cost to rent a 1 bdrm apartment on the main turtle dove island or other island in the BVI, I would like to stay 6 months but I know the hotels would be too costly renting by the week, or is it even possible to rent an Apt on the islands. Also is the cost of
food and just regular stuff really expensive on the islands? do they have a newspaper like with classified ads?
thanks DG

British Virgin Islands Car rental dilemma
Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 10:59 PM UTC
Hi!! My husband and I are going to the Virgin Islands for 10 days in July.

*2 nights in St. Thomas
*4 nights in Tortola
*4 nights in St. John

We want to rent a car on each island. We also will be taking day trips to other BVI while on Tortola. Do we rent cars on these islands too??? What is the best way to do this? We will fly into STT airport, but other than that, should we try to rent from the ferry docks? I just can't seem to get my brain around all these car rentals. Thanks for your help! :-)

British Virgin Islands Virgin Islands questions
Posted: Wed September 19, 2007 12:16 AM UTC
Hi! My husband and I are planning a trip to the Virgin Islands in June/July 2008. We are flying to St. Thomas and plan to spend a couple of days and then on to Tortola for a week. What do you think of this plan?

Day 1 - fly to St. Thomas; explore
Day 2 - ferry to St. John; explore St. John for the day
Day 3 - explore St. Thomas; ferry to Tortola
Day 4 - explore Tortola
Day 5 - ferry to Virgin Gorda
Day 6 - ferry to Jost Van Dyke
Day 7 - explore Tortola
Day 8 - ferry to Peter Island
Day 9 - ferry back to St. Thomas; fly home

Here are some questions:

*Has anyone stayed at Pavilions and Pools on St. Thomas?

*Has anyone stayed at the Long Bay Beach resort on Tortola?

*Should we rent a car the entire time, or just rent one for a day on each island that we visit?

Thanks so much for answering my many, many questions. I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

:-)

Virgin Gorda Transportation from ferry to the Baths
Posted: Tue July 31, 2007 01:19 PM UTC
We are considering taking a ferry (Speedy's?) from St. John to Virgin Gorda. Can anyone tell me:
Where does the ferry port?
Where do we clear customs?
Is there transportation to and from the Baths (or the top of the hill above the Baths)for 4 people?
We have taken this trip while on cruises before but it was all pre-arranged.

Thanks so much in advance. My google searches have left me without answers.

British Virgin Islands Transportation to Virgin Gorda?
Posted: Thu April 12, 2007 04:14 AM UTC
My wife and I are wondering how other people normally make it to Virgin Gorda from Canada or the US? I know some popular routes are to fly to SJU then hop on a small Cessna from Cape Air or something over to VG. Another route would be to fly to STT then ferry to VG. What method do you use? Trying to save some money here.. So far the least expensive I have found from here (Calgary, AB Canada) is: Calgary to Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) r/t $449Cnd; Cheap hotel near FLL airport, then SpiritAir flight to STT and then Ferry to VG. All of that w/o the ferry is ~$890 per person.

Is there another way we can do this cheaper? The 2nd least expensive would be to buy 2 one-way tickets. Is that allowed? One-way to STT then another one-way ticket from there back to Calgary.

Thanks!

Looking for a private villa, private pool, short walk to the beach where we can have good snorkeling from shore.

British Virgin Islands Sailing in BVI during July
Posted: Sun February 25, 2007 11:31 PM UTC
I'm planning on chartering a bareboat in the BVI for a week some time between mid July to early August. I saw that it's apparently low season during that time, which is good for prices, but I am concerned about what the sailing conditions and the weather will be then. Will it be hurricane season already ?

Thanks in advance

Tortola what's the life in Tortola made of?
Posted: Fri January 26, 2007 02:52 AM UTC
Hello Vmembers,
I would like to know how much it's necessary to afford monthly for an average standard of life in your Island for 2 people. Housing, amenities, food, car. What are the average incomes by inhabitant a year?
What are the transportation regular means to Guadeloupe, FWI or Sint Maarten?
What are the international banks established there?
Thanks a lot.
Friendly.

Tortola help on where to stay..
Posted: Mon July 17, 2006 02:22 PM UTC
Hi everybody,
My wife and me are planning our first trip to BVI, we've been to several islands in the past and never yet to this location.
We like to be as close to the beach as possible and also with calm waters, we like snorkeling and sunbathing, I read there is surfing on the island ?..so I guess we should be on the opposite side ?...which side is calm and which one is rough ?.
Any help you can give us will certainly be appreciated, we are coming from Uruguay (South America), both in our 40's.
If you want you can answer directly to my email at : compras@miami-box.com, or if not I'll check again here, this is my first time in this forum.
Many thanks.
Rgds.

British Virgin Islands Phone Service while Bareboat Chartering
Posted: Fri March 17, 2006 02:10 PM UTC
I would like to know the best way to call and receive calls fromthe United States, Germany and Hong Kong while sailing in the BVI. Would it be best to arrange this in the United States before leaving or do it in Tortola. I expect it would only be 10 - 15 minutes per day (hopefully).

Tortola Which charter company is best for bareboating?

We're planning a spring sailing vacation to Tortola. We're looking at Moorings, Horizon, and Sunsail in a 40'. Moorings offers newer and older boats and has a dependable reputation. Horizon and Sunsail seem to be cheaper. Which charter company is best for bareboating in Tortola?
