Hello again, another little question for you.
Are prices fixed as in france or do you have to bargain in order to get a fair price? What's the deal there when it comes to stores, markets etc? Thanks |

| Saint Martin | What clothing do I bring? Esecially for diinners? Posted: Wed January 30, 2008 02:02 PM UTC
I'll be traveling to the french side of St Martin in a couple of weeks. Mostly I'll be laying around on a beach, wandering through shops, but I fully intend to take advantage of all the wonderful restaurants, especially in Grand Case. Can I wear sandals, tanks and shorts to these restaurants, or would I feel more comfortable with a different type of clothing?

| Guadeloupe | Will TAXIS accept American Dollars? ($) Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 10:39 PM UTC
The only money we'll probably spend in Guadeloupe would be taxis and maybe a local villager with a boat, as has been suggested.
Do I really need to get EUROS? Do you think that we can get away with US Currency? |

| Guadeloupe | Gossier Beaches FREE to public? Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 09:44 PM UTC
Hi gang....
It's me again. *smiling* If we were to catch a cab from our cruise ship dock in Point A Pitre to Gosier, is it possible to gain access to beaches in the area? Or does one have to be a hotel guest? I was looking at St. Anne, but Gosier beaches look pretty nice, and right next door! |

| Guadeloupe | Guadeloupe for the day... (Cruise Ship stop) Posted: Sat October 6, 2007 12:11 AM UTC
Hi gang-
We'll be docked at Point-A-Pitre on Sat. 12/15 from 8am-5pm. The beaches in ST. ANNE looked gorgeous. I contacted the ONLY English speaking tour company that I could locate, and he quoted us over $50 US EACH if there were 4 of us.... just for transportation. That seems way out of line. Here's my scenario (from my original email to the guy): Hi there, XXXXX- Thanks so much for replying. From what I've been able to research, CARAVELLE BEACH looks lovely. I've also seen mention of CANELLA BEACH in Gosier, closer to our port. Where would you suggest, XXXXX? Here's my scenario.... *Pick us up at our Port around 9 am. *Stop for us to buy some beer and ice. We'll have a cooler. *Head to a beach or maybe 2. *Get us back to port no later than 4 pm. ********************************* Can any of you folks suggest a plan for us? Our idea of heaven is laying on a secluded beach, drinking beer and socializing with "locals". Unfortunately, we speak no French, but I did buy an cute little electronic translator! I have GOOGLED until I'm blue in the face, and can't find anybody to hire. We hate "ship organized" excursions.... they're like a cattle-call. We much prefer doing our own thing. I thank you all in advance for ANY feedback, links or email addys that you can provide. Thanks! |

| Guadeloupe | St Martin Posted: Fri January 12, 2007 05:31 AM UTC
Hi, I am going to St Martin im mid March. Trying to figure out what hotel to stay in. I heard of Grand Casa Hotel, Domaine de Lonvilliers, however, not sure what to go with. I think I would like to stay on a French side. Is it better to pick a boutique hotel or a large hotel like Maho Sonesta beach or the new Wyndham that just opened in January. Also, should we rent a car or can get a scooter. Please recommend nice restaurants for dinner. Is there a point to take a day trip to St Barths. Thanks so much for your help

| Île Saint-Barthélemy | Nightlife in St. Barth's Posted: Sat January 6, 2007 10:51 PM UTC
Hello,
We're in the midst of booking accomodations on the island but wanted to find out first the most centrally located area to stay. Something close to all the shops, restaurants, and clubs would be great! Is Gustavia the area we should be staying in? Also, is renting a car necessary here? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks, G_G |

| Guadeloupe | Guadeloupe accommodations Posted: Fri September 29, 2006 07:03 PM UTC
I'm heading down to Guadeloupe with my wife and 2 year old in Nov/Dec.
Has anybody seen the Cocoteraie recently? Ever since they left Le Meridien, their website is down. Are they under renos? Would it still be considered the top Guadeloupe property? How does it compare to the Sofitel Auberge de la Vieille tour? Is there any place where one wouldn't find mosquitoes in the room? We have a net for our son but the skeeters LOVE me. R |

Considering St. Barth's for honeymoon starting July 2 next year. What do you all think - too risky? Too close to hurrican season? Or do hurricanes start later?

| Saint Martin | Anniversary Trip - first timers Posted: Sat June 24, 2006 07:18 PM UTC
We are considering St. Martin for our anniversary in January. We are not beachy people, more city people - but we want to have a week of relaxation. We are more interested in food, culture, history, spa treatments and seeing an occasional movie. Would prefer to be able to walk to several restaurants - the room doesn't have to be big, but if it had a balcony or terrace for reading that would be awesome. So, where should we stay? Philipsburg or Marigot? We'd like to stay under $200 per day. We are big Francophiles - especially love to go to Paris - but we would be open to staying on the Dutch side.
Merci, Mary |

| Saint Martin | When is a good time to visit? Posted: Thu May 18, 2006 08:01 PM UTC
I am planning a tropical-style trip in the month of November for myself and my husband. I don't really care where we go, but St. Maarten caught my eye. We have never been anywhere in the Carribean before and I am nervous about the hurricane season and bad weather. Our budget is to keep the flight (from Indiana) and hotel under $2500 total for 7 nights or so, which we have found is possible. Is November a safe month to travel to St. Maarten as far as weather is concerned?? If not, do you have any other suggestions for a destination? Thanks!

| Île Saint-Barthélemy | Places to stay on St. Barths Posted: Fri March 17, 2006 05:06 PM UTC
We visit St. Martin every year but would like to relax afterwards on St. Barths for an extra 4 or 5 days this time. Eden Roc would be our first choice of hotels of course but does anybody have a favorite place they have stayed at on the island?
Looking for a quiet, small hotel that may have a summer special rate as we are going in July. Thanks Tony & Cheri |
