Overnight stay from Santiago to Bilbao Posted: Tue April 25, 2006 02:57 PM UTC
Thanks for your replies - one more question. We are traveling from Santiago de Compostela to Bilbao and want to stay overnight somewhere along the way. Which town would be better to explore on a Sunday and stay overnight - Leon or Burgos?

places to visit in late september Posted: Mon April 24, 2006 07:36 PM UTC
In late September we are arriving at Bilbao from UK on the way to taking our son to his university in perpignan. We plan to spend some time there with him having a look around the area, including northern Spain, before going back to Bilbao. We want ideas of places worth visiting along the Way and local to Bilbao. Also recommendations for places to stay for the night along the way.
Thanks Denise

Transportation from Bilbao to Guernica or San Sebastian Posted: Mon April 24, 2006 03:43 PM UTC
Hello, I am planning a trip to Spain and will be using public transportation to get from city to city. Does anyone know how easy it is to get from Bilbao to Guernica? Would it be feasible to take a bus or train into Guernica for dinner and back to Bilbao that evening? Also, is it worth taking a day trip to San Sebastian? Thanks.

Car Rental Spain/France Posted: Tue April 4, 2006 01:05 PM UTC
I want to rent a car in Bilbao, Spain, and over a 10 day period drive through southern France, ending up at Nice airport. Are there any companies that can accommodate one-way rentals from one country to another? It seems to be a problem. Or should I go to say Biarritz, and rent a France only trip from there ?

Bilbao, Santander. Which one to choose? Posted: Tue January 17, 2006 04:00 PM UTC
I have to spend some days in Spain. I have a meeting in Santander but I am flying to Bilbao. I plan to rent a car and I have approx. 2 spare days. Any good suggestions? Should I spend more time in Bilbao or in Santander? Is there anything in between these 2 cities that I should not miss? Are there any scenic routes or should I take the fastest route?
And is it easy to get the tickets to the Athletico Bilbao game or should I book these in advance?
Any help is appreciated!

Rugby and Golf Tour Posted: Sat January 14, 2006 06:26 PM UTC
Hi,
I am bringing a party of men to play Rugby against a veterans team called " Unigans"on Thursday 19th October till 23rd October 2006.We will be stopping in Gexto, I need some information about suitable hotels, I am disabled so I will need a hotel with a lift and possibly handicap facilities. We like to stop on the beach so will need easy access for the beach. We also need good reasonably priced restaurants that serve good local food (possibly fish ).
I also need the name and telephone number(e-mail) for a reliable coach firm to transport us all to and from the airport.
Best Regards

From Bilbao to Salinillas de Buradon, Alava Posted: Thu October 27, 2005 08:46 PM UTC
ˇHola!
We are going to spend a Christmas in Alava. What is the easiest way to get there by public transport (could be also taxi for last 20-30 km, if necessary)? I was looking bus and train timetables to Vitoria/Gasteiz, but they didn´t give much new information.
ˇMuchas Gracias por adelante!

Nice hotels in the Basque country Posted: Fri October 14, 2005 08:38 AM UTC
My first time in Spain but I've been to France a dozen times, love every region of France, my favorite spots are Beaune/Velezay, Annecy and Carpentras. I am going to spend 9 days next week in the Basque country. Living in Florida so I am NOT interested to get suntan at the beach, chateau and parador are my type. Here is my tentative agenda, please give me recommendation on some quaint towns I should not miss.
Day 1&2: Bilbao at hotel Occidental Abando
Day 3&4: Drive to Bidart to stay at the chateau of Le Domaine de Bassilour
Day 5&6: Stay at Parador in Fuente De. How far to drive from Bidart to Fuente De? Is the road difficult to get there? Is San Sebastien worth a stop?
Day 7&8: Pomplano. I have not found a nice hotel in Pomplano yet. Thinking to stay in Olite and drive inside the city during the day, any ideas?? The website of parador shows many beautiful hotels so I thought about staying outside the city since I have a rental car. Any recommendations about this region is highly appreciated. Is Vitoria, Pomplano, Olite worth a visit? Should I stay inside Pomplano or outside? Is parking a problem intown?
Day 9: Bilbao overnight to catch early am flight.
Thanks in advance.

pick up a rental car in Bilbao Posted: Fri October 14, 2005 06:29 AM UTC
I will be staying the first night at Hotel Occidental Abando. The next day I pick up a rental car. Auto Europe shows two addresses in Bilbao, one is 34 Doctor Areilza in downtown, the other is the rail station - Estacion de Renfe. Please tell me which location is closer to Hotel Occidental. How many rail stations in Bilbao? North, south, east west? Thanks/.

Fall/Winter in Bilbao Posted: Fri September 30, 2005 12:53 AM UTC
Hi, I'm going to be living in Bilbao from the end of August until the end of December while I study abroad at the University of the Basque Country. I've read the other posts in this forum, but I still have some questions that are unanswered. One is, how is the weather like during that time frame? I need to know what type of clothing to pack. Also, what kind of things besides eating and going out to bars and nightclubs are there to do for a college student like me? Any help is appreciated, thanks :)

Overnight Bilbao-Madrid: Train or Bus? Posted: Sun August 14, 2005 01:15 AM UTC
Hi:
I'm arriving in Bilbao in September on a Vueling flight from Rome. After visiting Guggenheim, I want to make it to Madrid the next morning, so I was wondering the best way to go about it. Renfe has an overnight train service, but on the website it says Preferente class costs EUR 40, and the sleeper costs €55. Does that mean EUR 95 total for a sleeper on the train? Is it possible to get a seat for just EUR 40?
Continental Auto has bus service from Bilbao to Madrid for much cheaper and faster (EUR 23.50). My only concern is the bus leaves at 1:15 AM, and gets to Madrid at 6:00a at Av. Americas... Is it safe in Bilbao and Madrid at those times? What service would you recommend?
Thanks.

Bicycles on FEVE trains in Spain Posted: Fri August 12, 2005 09:04 PM UTC
Since May 2005 FEVE (the narrow guage railway) has accepted the transportation of bicycles on their trains. Has anyone experience of using the service along the north coast of Spain or to Leon. How many bicycles can be carried on each train, is there a charge and is it necessary to book? Are there any other limitations?

Apartments in Bilbao Posted: Tue August 2, 2005 09:30 AM UTC
Hi,
We (that is: me, my girlfriend and cat) are going to come to Bilbao in October for three months and looking for place to stay. What would be easiest way to start looking for apartment? Any good web pages or information sources? Central Bilbao would be best choice for us, because we will use public transportation.
Greetings from Finland :),
