Cadiz trip from Cadiz to Morocco
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 02:49 PM UTC
Hi, I am considering to go on 2-3 days trip from Cadiz (or Tarifa) to Morocco (possibly Tanger, or anything else in reachable distance). Can anyone advise me of a travel agency that could arrange such a trip, preferably for reasonable price? Also, what would be nice place to visit in Morocco, that could be included in such 2-3 days trip?

Cadiz apartment in el barrio
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 12:13 PM UTC
Hi, I am considering renting a flat in calle de santiago which I think is in el Barrio. I haven't been to cadiz since I was a child and that area was quite run down then. Does anyone know what its like these days? My family are staying in the spa hotel but its a bit pricey for me. Advice much appreciated.

Cadiz Barbate de la Frontera
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 12:55 AM UTC
Hello all. I've considered staying in Barbate de la Frontera because it seems less commercial than other destinations in the area -- not to mention the beach front lodging options are appealing. I think it'll be a change of pace from the other cities I'll be visiting: Madrid, Sevilla, and Granada. 1. For a quiet, less "touristy" getaway with a slight distance from Cadiz, would you recommend this? 2. Would I need to rent a car to travel to and from Jerez and/or Cadiz? Are there alternative travel options?

Cadiz Safe inexpensive area in Cadiz
Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 04:36 PM UTC
I guess my question would be for Cadiz residents and this might not be the best place, but I would be grateful for any help. I homeschool my children and would really like to spend 6-8 weeks in Cadiz to jump-start our Spanish. I know summer rentals from June costs more than 1000/month, but is there a possibility of finding a 2-bedroom place for around 400 Euros per month if we came within the next month or so? We are not looking to be in the Old City and would probably be happy within 10 minutes walk to the beach. (the only place I know is the area near Hotel Barcello but I don't know what the area is called) What other areas can you suggest that is within a short bus ride to swimming pools or community facilities?
Thanks in advance,Roz

Cadiz Problem with train schedule (Renfe) Cadiz-Seville. Help please
Posted: Thu January 17, 2008 02:34 AM UTC
I realize that this question has been asked before , so please be patient as I ask it again. We are docking in Cadiz at 08h00 on Saturday, April 19, and sailing at 17h00 so that does not leave us much time in port. I have tried to open the train schedule side but, unfortunately, my Spanish is not good enough to allow me to understand and the link in English doesn't work to specify which type of train to choose.

So would someone be kind enough to tell me if it is possible to take a train or a bus to Seville that leaves at 0830 or09h00 and arrives at 16h30 at the latest.
We want to visit the Alcazar in Seville because it is a world heritage sight.

On the other hand, if it will be rush, rush ,rush, would you suggest that we spend some time in Cadiz and visit the Cathedral, perhaps going to Jerez for lunch. If so, which bodega would you choose? Are there any flamenco shows (or simply exhibitions) in the afternoon?

Actually, any and all information and tips would be welcome. We do not wish to take the ship cruise because we are three retired persons who are more interested in history, culture and architecture than in shopping. We like to visit at our own speed with a local guide if at all possible.

We might even be interested in hiring a car and driver who can act as a guide to take us around Cadiz and Jerez.

Hoping that you will help us out. Thank you very much

Cadiz Cadiz or Sevilla
Posted: Sun November 11, 2007 08:50 PM UTC
We are arriving on Dec. 7th on a cruise ship. The cruise line shows the stop as Seville (Cadiz). I cannot get confirmation from them as to which port we stop at.

Is there, in fact, a Port at Seville?

If we dock in Cadiz, we will probably stay there since we are in port from 7AM to 6PM, but with getting off the ship, more likely, about 10AM and needing to be back aboard by 5PM and considering the travel time between cities, it sounds like too much to do.

If we stay in Cadiz we would be interested in visiting Markets and Wineries.

We do welcome any suggestions.

Thanks

Cadiz Zahara de las Atunes, Zahora, or Canos de Meca?
Posted: Wed June 13, 2007 10:11 AM UTC
I have previously stayed in Rota on Costa de La Luz and this time I am planning to stay in one of the above places - I am a big fan of the sea, beautiful beaches and nature.

After weighing up what seems to be less windy and less touristy but with a nice villagey atmosphere, I have been trying to find accommodation in Zahara but can't find any reasonably priced accommodation.

I have found the following accommodation in Zahora but I can't find much information about what Zahora is like.

http://www.villarenters.com/advert_summary.asp?ref=8161&rag=10821A&rcam=myvillarenters&sag=&sc=

Can anyone give me their thoughts please? Would prefer not too much wind, not too many people (I hear Canos de Meca is very beautiful but very busy), but would like to be able to walk to the beach and to restaurants/supermarket.

Thanks in advance

Cadiz El puerto de Santa Maria Is it a "dump"
Posted: Tue April 24, 2007 05:08 PM UTC
Hi
I am considering after vters tips coming to El Puerto in June with husband and son
for a few days after Seville.
However Ive seen some mixed reviews for El Puerto including one on another website saying its a dump!
They then didnt go on to say why. (Were they joking)
What do people think?

Can it be called pretty? (Im not sure about the view to Cadiz on Puntilla beach that ive seen photos of-is it very industrial?)

We are not relly lie on the beach people but our son will like to paddle and play in some sand and we want an interesting town to explore and use as a base.
Would we be better going to Conil or even san lucar de barrameda?
All opinions please!

Hi All - We are going to be married at the end of June and are finalising our accomodation in Andalucía for our visit in July.

One of the places we will visit is Cadiz, but I feel it might be nicer to stay a small boat trip away in El Puerto De Santa Maria - can anyone confirm this and possibly recommend a beautiful place to stay for a homeymooning couple for two nights in either Cadiz or Santa Maria?

Thanks!

Cadiz Costa de la Luz in July: advice please
Posted: Sat November 11, 2006 04:22 PM UTC
Hello,
I've managed to get myself COMPLETELY confused (possibly reading too much in too many places)! Now I have a few details too many and wonder if anyone can sort truth from rumor for me.
I am traveling to Costa Luz next July with my husband and 3 grown children. We are not conservative or fussy travelers, enjoy new people, places and cultures. We are trying to decide whether to stay in Vejer de la Frontera or in Los Canos de Meca.
We had heard that Los Canos might be a little to much of an inebriated party town for us--nothing against but maybe not 24 hour--and clogged with crowds and traffic during summer months. Vejer looks lovely, we love street wandering, and it seems like a short enough drive to explore the coast/various beaches. THEN I read that Vejer is too hot to sleep with no a/c in summer, AND that it swarms with mosquitos at night so no windows open. Can this all be true?
We were very excited about possibility of visiting Costa Luz: lovely area by sea not yet completely populated by tourists while hosting a majority of local guests. Now we come upon dire warnings of being eaten by sand flies and buffeted by winds on coast or nibbled by mosquitos while expiring from heat up hill. The house we have become fond of in Vejer does not have a/c but says rooms are cool with thick walls.
Any advice? Heat, mossies, winds, need a/c in Vejer, fine at night without? Must be on coast to get to beach because roads stand still in summer? Vejer close enough? All info and opinions welcome!
Thank you,
Diane

Cadiz Cheap accommodation advice
Posted: Thu August 3, 2006 06:43 PM UTC
I expect to be in the area of Jerez de la Frontera and El Puerto de Santa Maria in October and was wondering if anyone has any tips about pensions/guesthouses in these cities. Just a place to lay my head and maybe get breakfast; nothing posh.

I've found a few in the 20 euro range (for a single), which strikes me as a super bargain as long as they're reasonably clean and not situated immediately above a noisy disco.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Cadiz Cruise ship dock to train station
Posted: Mon July 17, 2006 02:22 PM UTC
We will be arriving in Cadiz via a cruise ship and want to go visit Sevilla during the day.

How far is the train station from the Cruise Ship docks - i.e., how long does it take to get there?

Secondly: how reliable are the RENFE trains running between Cadiz and Sevilla (Andalucia express)? We only have 10 hours in port. We can make it to Sevilla and back, but not if the trains don't run regularly or are typically delayed.

Thanks for the help!
