Saint Lucia st. lucia vs. barbados

Hi Guys,
My husband and I are planning our 5 year anniversary. We can't decide between St. Lucia and Barbados. We are in our early 30's and are mainly looking for a great beach, good food, an island with character and culture, and a little bit of nightlife. Any suggestions?

Saint Lucia Safety in St Lucia?
Posted: Sat February 21, 2009 04:23 PM UTC
Contemplating travel to St Lucia and renting a villa. Have traveled widely thru Caribbean. 180s were TCI: safe and fabulous. St Vincent scary and dirty. Most other islands we have been to( Bequia, Anguilla, St John, VG, St Barts and Barbados) pretty safe and good. St. Lucia looks beautiful but some of the crime reports are getting questionable. How safe is it to travel there. We won't be clubbing late at night as we are traveling with 2 teens. More exploring in day hanging at villa in night. Any info from former St. Lucia travelers?

Saint Lucia St Lucia In March things to do for Single Traveller
Posted: Mon February 9, 2009 10:19 PM UTC
Hey

Travelling to St Lucia in March to visit Family. They will be working so will be mainly on my own. Firstly landing at Hewanorra and have to get to Rodney Bay. The taxi fares quoted seem to be expensive ranging up to $90usd. Are there any buses up to Rodney bay

Also during the day what is there to do for a bloke who does not want to be surrounded by honeymooners etc. Have checked out the diving and day trips but what interesting things are there to do?

Saint Lucia Sandals Grande
Posted: Fri January 30, 2009 01:03 AM UTC
My wife and I are looking at going to St. Lucia for our 5 year anniversary. I am curious if anyone has stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa and gotten the all inclusive package? I have heard that all inclusive packages aren't always the best way to go. If that isn't the best place to stay on the island can someone recommend a better choice. Thank you

Saint Lucia Sandals Resorts
Posted: Wed January 28, 2009 11:49 AM UTC
A few weeks ago I asked about the Sandals resorts in St Lucia. At the time I was planning to go with my Husband who has since left! Can anyone tell me if they allow same sex couples at these resorts as I will take my best friend if they do. Everyone may think were gay, but what the hell! I am not really prepared to forego this wonderful competition prize because of a selfish Husband! Thanks.

Saint Lucia shorts, thimble jellyfish and more...
Posted: Fri December 19, 2008 11:22 PM UTC
Hi there, my husband and I are leaving on January 31st to St. Lucia. I am in the process of picking out some cloth right now and was wondering if my short blue jeans shorts are fine to wear during the day? They are short but not 'short-short' and also not skin tight. As we are always traveling light I like to limit the stuff I take to a few items.

Any suggestions on that? I asked this already on a different board but am always thankful for more answers and experiences :))

... regarding jellyfish... big problem or not... many or few... what about those small thimble jellyfish? I look so forward to the water, but I like to be prepared too... so any input is appreciated.

Thanks so much! :)) Oh, and by the way, we will be staying 5 weeks, the first week in Soufriere and the the second we go up to Dominica, and the rest back to St. Lucia, to Gros Islet. Thought first of hopping to the Grenadines too, but without ferry this can get expensive... hope there will be some other choices soon... or an affordable 1 or 2 day trip...

Thanks for all the info you can give me. I am getting slow but steady into the traveling fever... ;)))

Saint Lucia Sandals Resorts, St Lucia
Posted: Tue December 9, 2008 09:02 PM UTC
Hi, I have been lucky enough to win a holiday to a Sandals resort of my choice. The holiday has to be taken before Nov 30th 2008. We have never been to the Caribbean before (other than Hubby being stationed in Belize 20 years ago) and we really haven't a clue which to choose. Having searched the internet, we think we'd like to go to one of the St Lucia resorts. I'd be very grateful for any feedback on St Lucia and in particular, Sandals resorts (either the St Lucia ones or any of the others). Thanks in advance.

Saint Lucia Honeymoon in February
Posted: Wed August 13, 2008 03:11 PM UTC
Hi All: My fiance and I are considering St. Lucia for our honeymoon in early February 2009. As I'm just starting to research would love any tips on hotels, activities to try, things to avoid. We're going for just one week (boo!) so would want to maximize the time we're there. Are there any places to sign up for deal alerts at hotels? Or a way to get informed of them? Thanks so much in advance!

Saint Lucia Dangers and annoyances
Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 08:05 PM UTC
Hi, I really would love to visit St. Lucia with my husband next winter. We usually go for a month and stayed this year (February/March) in Belize. It was lovely and we've had a great time exploring different sites, had only a few encounters with very pushy and not comfortable rastas, which we would have handled the next time better too.

I've read through all of the travel advices regarding those incidents and more including knifes... and like to have other opinions...

My husband and I are more the backpacking type and found a really nice and neat accommodation we would probably book if going. We love nature and are not party people, but do hiking trips, swimming, snorkeling, and exploring our surroundings.

I am guessing the people in St. Lucia who are doing begging and approaching are more accustomed to it because of the longer tourist history than in Belize, so it might be more than one could ask for...

I am wondering how bad it would get and how hiking through the country site would be... by ourselves.

Mostly we have only good experiences from any locals... but there is always a but too so let me know what you think. I am happy for any advices...

Thanks so very much! :))

Beate.

Saint Lucia Coconut Bay Resort
Posted: Tue January 15, 2008 10:13 PM UTC
This resort seems to be away from the majority, which seem to be near Castries. I note that it is on the Atlantic, rather than the Caribbean side of the island. Does anyone have any familiarity with the resort - or the difference between staying on the east rather than the west, Caribbean side?

Planning a trip in a couple weeks - and the prices to a few places in St. Lucia look better than normal. Any known reason why this might be so?, would be another of my questions.

Thanks in advance to the responders

Saint Lucia Royal St. Lucian or Bay Gardens Beach Resort?
Posted: Mon November 12, 2007 11:28 AM UTC
We'll be in St. Lucia for a week in early Dec. Can't decide between the two. We don't want an all-inclusive, do want a good beach and nice grounds with caribbean ambience. We've just about ruled out Discovery at Marigot becaise of the beach situation, otherwise it looks great. Bay Gardens looks a bit sterile.
We would also like info on which rooms to book.

Saint Lucia Anyone know anything about these apartments?
Posted: Thu November 1, 2007 03:52 PM UTC
I'm looking to book an apartment for 4 months for me & my husband & have narrowed my search down to two:

The Espoir Apartments at Marisule, Gros Islet has given me a really good deal. Their website looks great & the owners sound very nice. I've found some very positive reviews for these apartments. My only negative thought is that the place is a bit isolated & off the beaten track. We don't want to hire a car, we prefer to use the local buses. Anyone been here or know anything about the place, please?

My second choice is the Poinsettia Apartments in castries. Again, the website looks great, good location, nice looking apartments. We have been given a great quote for these aprtments too. Except with these, the electric is extra. Does anyone know what we can expect from the costs for electric please? The other worry was that the owner said in an email to me that one of the flats has been occupied for 2 years now & may or may not be available for us as they haven't let her know yet. (It's the biggest of her apartments I think). This suggests to me that the apartments aren't run as holiday apartments but as rentals for locals? What do you think? Lastly, I cannot find any reviews on this place. has anyone been?

Our budget is very limited and we are lucky to find any in our price range, but if anyone knows any others I would love top know about them. If not, opinions on which we should go for would be appreciated. 4 mths isn't long but it is if we hate where we are staying, so I need to get it right.

Thanks for reading

I will be in St. Lucia around March/April next year. I hate Hotels and would prefer private accomodation. An apartment or a bungalow for the two of us. Doesn`t need to be on the beach, but a nice view would be good. Any recommendations???

Saint Lucia Sandals Regency or Sandals Halcyon?
Posted: Fri July 20, 2007 04:34 PM UTC
Just wondering which Sandals resort is nicer? I know the Regency is part of the Signature collection and the Halcyon is not, but which one really has more to offer? I know I can stay at one and play at all three, but I'd really like to stay at a nicer one if I can. (We would stay at the Grande if we could but it's a little too expensive). I think the Regency is a little closer to Castries; does that mean there may be more to do off of the resort and is it not so secluded? I know I've been posting a lot of questions on here, I really appreciate all of the replies! I thank you all for helping make our honeymoon special!

Saint Lucia Waterfall Cycling Adventure through Sandals
Posted: Fri July 20, 2007 02:09 PM UTC
Has anyone ever done the Waterfall Cycling Adventure through the Sandals resorts? My finace and I are highly considering the Regency (How's the terrain)? As for the cycling Adventure, the description I found stated that an open truck (I don't know what that is) makes several stops picking up people at different resorts (I'm assuming at all the Sandals resorts), then makes its way to the Atlantic side of the island. Does anyone know how long the drive is? Is it a bumpy, hilly, twisty-turny type of ride? Then, once we get to the location, do we just ride mountain bikes and stop at different waterfalls? How scenic is it? And any other information you have about this would be wonderful! Thanks so much! :-)
