I have been to Puerto many times and its my Favourate eurpean destination . The place has got a lot quieter over the years, which is a shame. I am going back in October(3Rd time this year). I usually go in March/ April time but this is the first time in october, is it usually busy this time of year .I notices that The show bar Flanigans was closed last time i went and the Bloke(Who addresses himself as the 3rd Marquis of Barnsley) was doing his act in titos some nights. Is he still there or hopefully he's back in flanigans showbar with Rita . A bar we used to go was caesars disco(Near Titos but again this was shut in April) will this place be open in October. There's the showbar other end of the strip near the owl and the pussy cat bar can not remember its name . We always go in ruta 66 and Murphys bar best two bars here.

Six of us will be arriving via cruise ship and wondering if anyone can recommend a guide that would have a van large enough for the six of us.
Trying to decide if one might be available at the cruise port or should we just rent a big enough car and go it alone?

Thanks for any help!

Any thoughts on a preference of where to base ourselves - Arrecife or Puerto del Carmen ?

Also, is the bus service from these resorts a good way to get around and explore the places previously recommended? We probably wont be hiring a car.

Thanks.

first time in Lanzarote. staying in Playa Pocillos. arriving on Dec. 23rd.
what is the closest supermarket to Apt. Costa Mar for basic groceries?
Do supermarkets, shops and restaurants close over the Xmas period? and for what duration?
I would appreciate advise on local restaurants- our preferance is for good quality food as against cheap fast food.
Could anyone suggest a good restuarant for the night of the 25th.(not turkey etc. dinner)? would it be advisable to book in advance?
Would like to see the island. Is it best to hire a car or will many sights be closed over Xmas period?
Is anyone aware of any jazz, blues or local folk groups playing on the island?
Can anyone suggest a good place for a relaxing drink (i.e. no karaoke or tribute bands)?

Hi All, I'm helping my sister and her family plan a holiday. She has 3 young children (age 1, 4 and 6 years). They like to stay in small, friendly, family run hotels/apartments. They don't mind if it's basic but they would like a swimming pool need a good location; close to town and the beach. Can anyone recommend somewhere?

Thanks!

can anyone recommend a quiet cheap self-catering accomodation with two beds and a pool near a safe swim beach please? I don't wish to be anywhere clubby and touristy. I get that in London. And a good time to go between April-May thanks x

Hi, have just booked my flights and the fariones playa but there are no transfers. I would prefer taxi as quicker than a bus but am worried about the kids. Will they be allowed in taxi without car seats, is it possible to get taxi with some? Also does anyone know cost to Puerto del carmen. Thanks a million

I'm thinking of staying in Puerto del Carmen over the Christmas period, but a friend has heard that the town is not what is was a few years ago and thinks it will be very quiet at night, with not many people out and a lot of places closed. We are 4 middle aged guys who aren't clubbers but like to travel between good and busy pubs and bars.
I visited there 13 years ago in 96 and quite liked it then, so can anyone tell me if it has changed a lot.

Coming to costa Teguise in Jan. My partner cannot eat lactose (milk products) or gluten, but would be happy with seafood, or a decent steak and chips - though would really prefer to try local food if not cooked with butter/milk/wheat ...and to complicate things further i am vegetarian!
We're staying self catering, but would like to have a few meals out.. any recomendations greatefully received!!
cheers

As vacation comes closer, more questions arose. We are renting car for the vacation. Will stay in aparts close to Playa Bastian (and to aparts with same name). The hotel definitively has no own parking so we will have to find a place for our car somewhere. What is situation with finding parking space there? Google earth shows one parking close to the beach (suspiciously empty) and no parkings along roads!

Here will be our location (on Calle de la Rosa): http://maps.google.de/?ie=UTF8&ll=28.995182,-13.495052&spn=0.006569,0.009677&t=h&z=17

Please, please tell me that I will not need to circle for an hour every day looking for a parking lot!!! I am even ready to rent parking space if it would make my life easier...

I am planning my trip to Lanzarote in October. Have read almost everything on VT already and cant wait. Still have a few questions.

1. I have booked a studio in Molino de Guatiza Aparthotel because of very good price and location. Reviews in web are very limited and very old. Would be happy if anyone would tell me at least something about them, good or bad. The apartments are located very close to Playa Bastian Apts which have a lot of good reviews here, but they are not available for booking any more. If Molino de Guatiza is very bad, it is still not late to re-book for anything else.

2. I love fish and shrimps. On Tenerife and Gran Canaria we were living in apartments with kitchen and buying seefood in Mercadona. Is there any supermarket in Costa Tequise with good seafood choice? If not, where is the closest? Where to buy fresh fish?

3. A few years ago I have read that Costa Teguise is quite place with good atmosphere and had an impression that it has a soul and not pure touristic (something like Los Gigantes or Puerto Cruz on Tenerife). Now it sounds like a big tourist resort. Was I wrong and it is pure touristic?

Our cruise boat gets to Lanzarote and we have a day to explore...following the forum and it sounds like the best idea is to rent my own car and get around...

1) Definitely plan to do the Timanfaya National Park the first thing in the morning? Any suggestions on how to do the camel ride? Is it an option between the bus tour or the camel ride?

2) Sounds like there is a lot more to do and I am a little confused as to how much I can accomplish in one day...It would be helpful if someone can suggest an itinerary that they think is manageable and covers most of the important sites...

3) Should I book a rental car ahead of time or are they easily available from the port?

thanks,
