Bath Day trips from Bath
Posted: Mon July 30, 2007 01:33 PM UTC
Hi there
I will be in Bath for 4 days in September and seek help in planning day trips from the city:

1. Day 1 - sightseeing in Bath itself

2. Stonehenge, Salisbusy and Windsor - does anyone know of a travel agency that does this tour from Bath?

3. Oxford, Stanford-upon-avon and cotswold tour - again does anyone know of a travel agency that does this tour from Bath?

4. One option is to visit Bristol that's if the Oxford-Cotswold tour takes in the experience of the area (do they give you enough time in Cotswold for lunch or something). I would really like to spend more time in Coldswold - are there any nearby town/villages that I can take a bus to, where one could do short walks, visit a country pub or catch afternoon tea - typical British experience and be back in Bath by the evening.

Thanks very much in advance for all your suggestions.

S.

Bath Touring ideas
Posted: Tue June 19, 2007 01:22 PM UTC
Hi everyone,We will be leaving London with a hire car and will have 2 days/2 nights to get to the ferry port in Fishguard. We have booked a nights accomodation in Lacock Village and will 'play it by ear' for the second night - probably end up somewhere not too far away from Fishguard. My problem is I have researched the area a bit and have come up with a few places I would like to visit but am unsure what order to do them in, and whether we'll even be able to fit everywhere in in just 2 days. Could anyone give me any idea what sort of order we should try to do them in? bearing in mind that we do not necessarily need to spend long periods of time in any one spot.
The places I like the look of are: Stonehenge, Bath, Lacock Village (don't need to be here until late in the afternoon on the first day) Bradford on Avon, Avebury, Castle Combe, & Upper/Lower Slaughter. We don't want to go on tours or look through castles or anything just basically drive through with maybe a stop for a little walk around and a drink. Is any of this possible, I would appreciate your advice, regards, Michele PS Time of visit is 6th - 8th September

Bath Gatwick Airport to Bath?
Posted: Sun June 3, 2007 10:11 PM UTC
Greetings! It's possible that my husband and I may have to fly into Gatwick Airport rather than Heathrow. Is there an easy way to get to Bath from Gatwick? Prefer bus to the train due to cost. Thanks for the help.

Bath From Bristol Airport to Bath University
Posted: Mon May 28, 2007 12:06 PM UTC
Hi guys,

I would like to ask if anyone of you got the details of how to get from Bristol Airport to the University of Bath?

As I am a new to the area I surfed the net and got this path:

From Bristol International ==> express link to Bristol Temple Meads Rail station ==>????
Is Bath Spa Railway Station nearer to the University than Temple Meads?
How much all of that would cost me from airport to University campus?

I will be attending a seminar for my PhD work.

Thank you in advance.

Bath traveling to bath & stonehenge from london
Posted: Sat March 31, 2007 08:36 AM UTC
my husband and i will be in london this august. we want to visit both bath and stonhenge on our own - not interested in being carted about with dozens of other folks, hurried from one site to another with a white-gloved individual shouting "we're walking, we're walking"... =)

can anyone advise how we can travel from london to bath to stonehenge back to london using public transportation in one day? (reverse order is fine too)

i have studied a few rail sites and see that we can take a train from london to bath and/or a train from london to salisbury, but i haven't seen any instructions for combining the two locations into one trip - except for a guided bus tour. i understand that a bus ride from salisbury to stonehenge will be in order.

thank you so much in advance for any advice/guidance!

Bath Staying along the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bath
Posted: Fri March 23, 2007 06:23 AM UTC
Hello again all,

I'm trying to decide on a special B&B in Bath for my September stay. I have it narrowed down to three places: Villa Magdala adjoining Henrietta Park, Ayrlington House on Pulteney Road, and Tolley Cottage along the Kennet and Avon Canal. I've found plenty of reviews on tripadvisor.com of the first two places (good and lukewarm), but I can't find anybody who's stayed at Tolley Cottage (http://tolleycottage.co.uk). It looks adorable, but I don't know whether staying in a B&B overlooking the canal is desirable compared to the other options. Is the canal at all neglected/dirty? Its location from the center of town isn't far, but I wish I had a review or two of the cottage and/or that area of town. I can't find another inn that is in that same area along the canal.

Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Bath From Bath to Heatrow by public transport
Posted: Tue March 13, 2007 05:58 AM UTC
Hello, I need to get from Bath to Heathrow by 1:00 PM on a Wednesday in September. I checked the Brit Rail site, and it says I can take a train leaving Bath around 11 AM, and can arrive at Heathrow by about 1 PM. However, the details state that the first part of the journey is by rail, but then we must take a bus from Reading to Heathrow.

Has anybody here ever done this? If so, is the transfer from train to bus fairly straightforward in Reading, and is the bus known to usually run on schedule? Otherwise, does anyone know of an easier way to get to Heathrow from central Bath (for four adults)?

Thanks!

Bath Winter activities in Bath
Posted: Tue January 9, 2007 05:45 PM UTC
My daughter and I will be traveling to London the end of this week. We are considering taking a day trip to Bath while we are in London. We were planning on taking the day trip on a Monday. I know January is way off the tourist season the UK so I was wondering if most of the musuems and sites in Bath are open in January. I have been looking in Google but can not find out a lot about winter months.

Bath Bathwick Cemeteries
Posted: Mon April 24, 2006 12:20 PM UTC
Although this sounds a bit macabre we will be in Bath later this year, visting from Wetern Australia. I understand my husband's ancestor died in BATH and was buried Bathwick Cemetery about 1838. We'd like to visit his grave, any ideas as to what the most likely cemetery would be?

Bath What to see and do in 2 hours?
Posted: Sat April 8, 2006 09:18 AM UTC
Hi all,

I'm going to be driving by Bath and would probably stop by there for a short break for lunch.

What should I see and do during this sojourn of 2 hours or less?

What would be the must-see of this place and are there places of interest with free entry for students? :)

Thank you for helping me plan my trip!

Will be in Burnham on Sea for a week commencing 10th April with my wife and 3 grandsons, aged between 9 and 13. Can anyone suggest anything to do that will appeal to us all? Also, are there any good restaurants within a 15/20-mile radius.

Somerset Cheddar/Wells in one day and more...
Posted: Thu February 2, 2006 10:20 PM UTC
Thanks for you previous replies - now I'm in full planning mode :) I've found bus 376 from Bristol to interesting places but my question is if it is possible to combine Wells and Cheddar in one day (and by public transport) or are they worth a whole day each? If not, should I sacrifice one of them in favour of Glastonbury? I just don't have time for more THIS time around...

Is there a First bus pass that would offer value for money daytrips or more? (this I might find on their site...haven't ventured that far yet).

Is Wookey Hole impressive or just a tourist trap compared to the already touristy Cheddar gorge?

Feel free to recommend child friendly pubs with good cider/ale in these places :)

Bath cornwall
Posted: Sun October 30, 2005 12:09 AM UTC
Hi
Im interested in doing a walk for a week or 2. Flying to London around the start of May.
Catch a train to somewhere like Cornwall area (a good satarting point needed) and then hikin. I know that Bristish weather an be unpredictable but May seems like a better time to be there? I want to use a tent and B&B when i need a shower. Will i have problems with tenting? Are there camping grounds or do it just ask a farmer for some place in the paddock?
I would appreciate any help.

Bath bath or bath+bristol?
Posted: Fri September 2, 2005 10:25 PM UTC
Hello,
we're planning a short trip to Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath - 4 or 5 days.
The initial idea was to spend 1 day in bath and another in Bristol, but after surfing in the web, I guess a day is maybe too short for Bath. Would 2 days be enough to visit the city relaxed? Is Bristol worth a day?
Which is better - faster and more frequent connections - (train or coach) to go from Bath to Salisbury? Are there coaches or guided tours to Stonehenge from Bath?

Any other tips for the visit or for accommodation are also welcome.
Thanks,

Susana.

Bath Can local Bathonians speak to guided tours?
Posted: Thu September 1, 2005 03:48 AM UTC
My husband and I are excitedly planning our first trip to the UK, and have booked 2 nights at Talbot's in Mells. We want to see Bath, Salisbury, Avebury, and of course, Stonehenge. Is there some really excellent tour company that you think highly of? I have corresponded with British Tours, Ltd., and they are clearly outstanding, but pricey. Any thoughts?

Pls advise good B&B in Bath in city centre.

Wow. Bath has so many B&B's that I am not sure which to book. I am travelling alone so looking for a place in the town centre where I can enjoy Bath nightlife as we being close to the attractions, bars and restaurants. My budget is between £40 to £70 midweek.

Can anyone suggest a good B&B based on these criteria

Thanks

Darren.

Glastonbury Camping in Glastonbury?
Posted: Sat May 14, 2005 11:34 AM UTC
Hello,

My girlfriend and I are coming to Glastonbury in about a week's time. We're backpacking, on foot, near the end of our trip (and money), and are wondering if anyone knows of a good, cheap campground, close to the tor and anything else we need to see.

We're really looking forward to Glastonbury. It looks peaceful and beautiful, and I'm very keen on the Arthurian legends, so it's a natural match. We'll only be there a few days, but any suggestions are welcome!

Ken & Tracy

Somerset looking for a dog-friendly rest stop on the A303
Posted: Tue May 3, 2005 11:47 AM UTC
I will be travelling from London to Devon with my dog this summer, and I'm looking for advice on good places to stop for a 1/2 hour or so along the A303 -- probably somewhere around the Ilminster area. Are there public footpaths / commons where I can let her off the lead without bumping into sheep? She's never seen a sheep before and I'm not too optimistic about what might happen....

Thanks for any comments.
