Honduras Travel to Honduras in Nov 2009 prior to presidential elections ?
Posted: Thu October 8, 2009 02:01 PM UTC
We will be in Honduras Nov 19-25, just prior to the presidential elections on Nov 29. Does anyone have any advice regarding our schedule, given the political situation?

This is our current itinerary:

Thu 19 Nov: Managua (Nicaragua) – Tegucigalpa (Honduras) - via TicaBus
Fri 20 Nov: Tegucigalpa - Valle de Angeles – Santa Lucia – Tegucigalpa
Sat 21 Nov - Tegucigalpa – Comayagua – La Esperanza
Sun 22 Nov - La Esperanza – Gracias - Santa Rosa de Copan
Mon 23 Nov – Santa Rosa de Copan – El Puente - Copan Ruinas
Tue 24 Nov: Copan Ruinas – Copan
Wed 25 Nov: Copan Ruinas (Honduras) – Guatemala City (Guatemala) - via Hedman Alas bus

We are staying at the Tegucigalpa InterContinental Hotels Camino Real. It is be located 2 blocks from the Presidential Palace, where demonstrations in the past few months have occurred. Should we consider staying elsewhere?

Alternatively, should we adjust our schedule to avoid the capital? For example, it has been suggested:

Thu 19 Nov: Managua (Nicaragua) – San Pedro Sula (Honduras) -flight on TACA
Fri 20 Nov: Tela – Los Micos Jeannette Kawas National Park and Garifuna villages
Sat 21 Nov – Tela exploring Rio Platano mangroves Punta Izopo National Park
Sun 22 Nov - Tela- Pulhapanzak Waterfall - Lake Yojoa - Santa Rosa de Copan
Remainder of itinerary is the same as above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Isla de Roatán Coming via private aircraft for 2 days...recommendations without reservations
Posted: Wed June 10, 2009 08:12 PM UTC
My dad and myself are coming in via private aircraft. We do not know what day or when.

Is it easy to clear customs / immigration in Roatan?

Is it easy to get a taxi?

We do not have hotel reservations...is that okay? Where should we have the taxi driver take us?

Any general suggestions? We are not diving and will probably be relatively tired. This is our first trip to Roatan.

Honduras puerto lempira to belen
Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 01:24 PM UTC
hi there,

I,ve been looking to find some recent info on this area and it seems hard to find.

I would love to hear some info/tips/experiences about traveling from Puerto Lempira to raita/belen.

I'll arrive in PL coming from Nica. I would like to get to belen as quikly as possible. Should I go by plane (sami) or by land?
I'm on a budget but willing to spend some money here since that seems inevitable.

If i go by plane, how long should i probably have to wait between arrival in PL and leaving?

And if i go by land...how long will this probably take me? Are there even any collectivo's out there?

thanks!

Honduras Copan Ruinas
Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 03:48 AM UTC
Anyone ever do a day trip from San Pedro Sula to Copan Ruinas? I know the buses take about 4 hours. Would this be the same if I rented a car? Would I be able to effectively see the ruins and be back in SPS in the early evening?
Thanks.

Honduras Electrical Outlets
Posted: Sat April 18, 2009 01:50 PM UTC
My new camera doesn't use AA batteries like my last one. Therefore, I need to know if the electrical outlets in Honduras are the same as in the USA. Or will I need an adaptor between my recharger and the plug?

If you are reading this in Honduras, this is what a Norteamericano outlet looks like:
http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PUBS/524.jpg

The voltage here is 110V, and my camera recharger has only two prongs (like the outlet on the left in the picture).

Thank you!

Isla de Roatán Where does the ship dock & any dive suggestions?
Posted: Sun March 1, 2009 09:33 PM UTC
I'm taking a cruise that stops in Roatan. I am wondering where on the island do the ships usually dock? I'm trying to find a dive operator nearby, wanted to avoid the cruise line's shore excursion diving... anyone have suggestions for a local dive operator?

Thanks for your help!

Honduras La Moskita (Mosquito Coast), Honduras, 2009 March!
Posted: Wed February 25, 2009 11:34 PM UTC
Question: is it possible to find travel partners here, or will it all be deleted without notice?

We are a couple from Tegucigalpa planning on exploring the Mosquito region in 2-3 weeks, March. We are conducting anthropological studies as well, so our focus are the indigenous tribes: Miskitas, Pechs and Tawahkas. We plan on visiting their remote villages and settlements (Krautara, Pimienta, Tukhrun, Khurpa, Ahuas, Pico Dama), and would prefer sharing travel costs with others.
The question is, anyone interested in cost-sharing?
Cheers,
Lidia

Honduras SPS to Livingston, Guatemala....how long does it take?
Posted: Mon February 2, 2009 10:33 PM UTC
I've read that there is a new, paved road across the honduras-guatemala border to Puerto Barrios, which makes the trip shorter. I am wondering

1) how long will it take to get from SPS bus station (new one near the airport) to the border
2) Border by public transport (bus/ferry?) to Livingston?

My flight arrives SPS at 12:10pm and I'd like to get to Finca Tatin by nightfall (owner will pick up in Livingston).

Thanks so much if you can help me out!

Valle de Ángeles A Hotel called Hotel Santa Lucia (I think)
Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 06:26 PM UTC
In July 2007 I was in Tegucigalpa for a week. One day we visited Valle de Angeles. Between Tugucigalpa and Valle de Angeles we stopped at a small hotel (on the right as you go to V.d.A.). It was back off the road a bit in the hills and trees. It was a beautiful setting. I think it was called Hotel Santa Lucia. We got them to take us on a tour of the hotel so we might plan for a future trip. The hotel is probably about half way between Tegus and Valle de Angeles. It was kind of a rustic but nice hotel. There were private baths with hot water. There was no pool but it did have a restaurant. I cannot find them on the web but would like to so I can get some contact info on them. Please let me know if you have any information on this hotel. Thanks!

HI,

We are planning to spend a few days in Utila to dive and need to know where a good and safe place is in La Ceiba to leave our rental car.

Also, does anyone know how long it typically takes to drive from Puerto Cortes to La Ceiba? Or even better, from Puerto Barrios, Guatemala to La Ceiba?

Thank you!

Copán Flying to honduras from placencia or belize city
Posted: Fri November 14, 2008 03:25 AM UTC
We'll be in Placencia, Belize, in early January '09, and would like to travel to the Copan ruins. What are our options for flying RT either from Placencia or Belize City to San Pedro de Sula, Honduras?

I have read that an airstrip is opening near Copan. Does that make flying into Copan from Belize feasible?

Thank you.

Honduras Plane and Boat schedules LaCeiba Roatan Honduras November 2008
Posted: Thu November 13, 2008 02:52 AM UTC
Hello:

I will be in the LaCeiba Honduras area the last week of November, 2008. We have a party of 12 people. 10 adults, 1- 5 year old and 1-3 year old. We would like to take a day trip to Roatan from La Ceiba any day while we are there would be possible. From the old schedules I could find online it seems as though the ferry would not afford us much time in Roatan. We are thinking maybe flying would be a better option. I noticed that 3 carriers fly but I cannot determine their current schedules. We have 3 options that I can think of.

1)Ferry to Roatan and fly back, assuming their is an evening flight from Roatan to Laceiba

2)Fly round trip, assuming there is an around 9 am flight from Laceiba to Roatan and return, assuming their is an evening flight.

or 3) Charter a flight. If this seems possible, how should I go about arranging this? Any information or contacts would be welcome.

Once on Roatan, do most people rent a car or taxi to visit the important sites?
Has anyone spent time with the friendly dolphins that are near a resort on the island?

Thank you anyone for your help with this question.

Honduras Visa requirements
Posted: Mon October 27, 2008 01:53 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm flying into San Pedro Sula from the US. Will be going to Omao then on to Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. From there to Punta Gorda, Belize. We will then return the same route back to San Pedro Sula. Two questions:

1) What are the visa requirements for entering/exiting these countries according to my itinerary?
2) Is there any water transportation from Puerto Cortes, Honduras to Puerto Barrios, Guatemala?

Thanks!!
