Madrid Madrid card
Posted: Tue August 4, 2009 01:29 AM UTC
I have gotten vouchers for the Madrid card, but don't quite understand when they are talking about what transportation comes along with it -- can anyone tell me if this included all the bus lines? and metro lines? And if the map will be sufficient to get around, or should I look for more?

Madrid Flamenco

Where is the best place for shows? And I have read in a few places that Madrid/Barcelona stay up all night (cuz of the heat of the day) so does that mean it will easy to get bus transport back to the hotel? And would the shows be better in Madrid/Sevilla/and-or Barcelona?

Madrid Transportation from the airport...
Posted: Sun August 2, 2009 11:26 PM UTC
Along the lines of taxis, is that the best option for getting from the airport into town -- we are staying at the Hotel Carlton, Paseo Delicias -- would there be a cheaper way that would still make sense? Or just settle for the taxi?

Madrid taxi -- tipping?
Posted: Sun August 2, 2009 05:55 AM UTC
Seems like I read somewhere you don't tip taxi drivers in Spain -- is that accurate? And do you need the exact change? I am not very experienced in taxis, and am going to need them a bit. My Spanish is muy poco, so will that be an obstacle?
I will be there in a few days -- very excited!

Madrid Bed-and-Breakfast Hotel -- any recommendytions?
Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 05:57 PM UTC
Hi guys,

I'm thinking about spending 5 days in October in Madrid. Do you have any good tips for a nice hotel where breakfast is included? Is it possible to find a good one for not more than 50 Euros per night? I heard that some district may be quite noisy at night because of bars and pubs, but shurely there are also more quiet quarters not too far off?

Thanks in advance

we will be staying near sol metro, I did some reasearch on both museum, it seems that I should get off on Banco de espana or Atocha , however I have download the PDf from http://www.metromadrid.es/en/viaja_en_metro/red_de_metro/planos/index.html and picked Consult Schematic Map of the Subway Network (PDF format) but I am not able to find the stop

so from sol how do I get there really? I want to go sunday b/c it is free... I will be at the door before 9AM and I think I probably need 3-4 hrs, then I want to go to Centro Arte De Reina Sofia museum, how do I get there from prado?

Madrid Ooops!
Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 12:56 PM UTC
From the BBC on line:

<<Strong winds and high temperatures have helped trigger fires across the region. In Spain, the high-speed rail link between Madrid and Barcelona has been suspended because of blazes in the north-east of the country.>>

Is September still fire season there? It is still dry and the danger here does exist well into late October, early November.

Should I be prepared for a possible 'glitch' to my travel plans?

Madrid I'm being driven crazy by RENFE :)
Posted: Tue July 21, 2009 06:48 AM UTC
OK, I'd like advice here...for days I've been trying to figure out a way to buy RENFE train tickets from madrid to sevilla either online or by phone. The online system keeps giving me an error message (even though my credit card has been authorized to allow Spanish companies to bill to it), and the phone number on their website is not connecting when I try to call it using my Spring phone card from a home phone. Is this number a toll free number in Spain? (902-24-34-02) That's the only reason I can think of why it wouldn't let me connect.

I know I can buy these same tickets through Eurail, but I will pay significantly more...however, I'm getting so frustrated I'm almost ready to do it! Any advice would be appreciate. Muchas gracias!
