Postcards available...where? Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 10:03 PM UTC
Leaving very soon on a mission trip to Haiti (Croix-des-Bouquets) and have promised to send a fellow VTer as well as family back home postcards from our visit there. Where will I find postcards? Are they available at the airport at Port-au-Prince? Any help appreciated!

SEEKING LOCAL CHAUFFEUR AND TOUR GUIDE Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 11:01 PM UTC
I am planning to go to Haiti for two weeks over Christmas, with some trepidation. I would like to hire a private chauffeur and tour guide to take me safely around the country. I take a lot of photos and don't want my camera or money stolen, so I need someone trustworthy. Any ideas?

Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 02:56 PM UTC
I was wondering if anyone has done the bus trip direct from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince or crossed into Haiti from the DR before? I will be in the DR for a week in May and was looking to spend a couple of nights in Port-au-Prince and then come back to Santo Domingo for a couple of days on the beach.
Would you say that going to P-a-P for a couple of nights is not worth the 6 hour bus ride?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

overland from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince Haiti Posted: Sun November 25, 2007 03:25 PM UTC
I am looking for schedules and prices for the coaches (bus) that run between DR and Haiti.
Specific questions:
Do they run on Christmas and New Years Eve?
How long does the trip take?
Is there a baggage allowance limit?
Where do they leave from and arrive at?
Is a visa required for a traveler with a US passport?
How much are the tickets? Is there a discount for a round-trip ticket?
Much thanks in advance.

Budgetary Concerns Posted: Sat November 17, 2007 07:09 AM UTC
I am traveling to Haiti in January to visit for the entire month. I am a little unsure about what I will be doing since I am not sure how much things cost and how much pocket money I would need. I would also like some advice about destinations that touch culture, art, nightlife and sightseeing. If anyone could give me a general idea of what to expect it would be much appreciated as well. I am a young woman in my 20s and I am not sure what to do there. I keep getting bad responses from my travel agent and would like to know what I'm getting into in terms of budget and safety. Thanks for the reply.

Suggestions & Advice Needed! Posted: Sat October 27, 2007 03:31 AM UTC
For spring break this year, a small group of students from my school are going to Pétion-ville, Haiti to volunteer at God's Littlest Angel's Orphange. Last year, a senior took the same trip as his project for TOK but he went alone. My really good friend is very interested in Haiti and has dreams of opening a hospital there, so she really pushed this trip. A teacher that I had last year is in charge and really organizing it and some students are parents are going too.
I want to go extremely bad. I briefly mentioned the idea to my parents, they seemed into it, but then I got some information and after thinking about it they decided no way. There reason and main concern is obviously safety. Even though they said no, I still think about the trip everyday and want to go so badly I can't even explain. I've done hours of research on Haiti, the orphange, and previous trips from volunteers. Honestly, it seems like a completely safe trip as we are getting picked up at the airport by a security esscort service, the roads are patrolled by the UN, we are about an hour away from Port-Au-Prince (which is where the infamous kidnappings have occured), and both the Toddler House and the Nursery are surrounded by concrete walls and locked iron gates.
Basically, I would just really love some advice on talking to my parents and hopefully convincing them to let me go. The thing is I don't have a lot of time to do so. Today I made a slideshow with a bunch of information and pictures of the orphange and all of that so they can see what its actually like, because I think the problem was my dad only got information about the crime rate in Port-Au-Prince and hasn't really heard about how peaceful this area is supposibly.
Also, I am a sophmore in high school and just turned sixteen. Three students from my grade are going, and my good friends mom is going.
Please, please help me out as this is very important to me. Thank you so much!

Traveling to Haiti in June Posted: Sat May 19, 2007 07:29 PM UTC
Hello,
I am traveling to Haiti on June 21 and I need some info on the hotels there. I am planning on staying at the Moulain Sur Mer or the Kaliko Beach Club Hotel however, I cannot get a hold of anyone there to make a reservation. Could anyone one who has been to Haiti give me some tips and also anyone who has been at either one of those hotels? Thank you,

Anyone in Haiti? Posted: Fri January 26, 2007 02:49 PM UTC
Heya!
Im hoping to go through Haiti on my way from the Dominican Republic to Cuba, and Id like to hook up with someone who knows the country. Unfortunately, theres extremely few couchsurfing or hospitalityclub members there, so Id though Id check here - any locals/volonteers/aid workers/UN people who are up for a rendevouz somewhere (accessible) in Haiti?
Thanks,
Malin

transportation Posted: Mon September 11, 2006 04:07 AM UTC
Is it possible to take a bus from Porte au Prince to Porte au Paix, Haiti? If so, is it safe to take that form of travel? (I mean, safe within reason--I know it's not like American travel.) If that is not possible, what is the cheapest way to travel?
Thank you,

Any Information about Hotel Prince? Posted: Wed July 19, 2006 08:57 PM UTC
We have been booked at the Hotel Prince (in Quartier Pacot) for an upcoming trip to PaP. I have never stayed there and know nothing about its amenities, safety of the neighborhood, etc... Has anyone stayed there or can you tell me about the neighborhood? Thanks.

travel safety question... Posted: Sun July 16, 2006 01:17 PM UTC
I've been planning for a trip to Port-au-Prince in mid August (just bought my tickets, place to stay etc.) I just got word from a woman I've traveled there with before that the situation in and near Cite Soliel and Port-au-Prince in general are getting iffy again. Has anyone else heard these rumors? Obviously I don't want to go down there if there's a lot of fighting, shooting etc. Keep me posted please!
I just got back from Haiti (Port-au-Prince)in June and didn't feel unsafe at all. Hopefully things are still stable.. but I just thought I'd check.... especially since I'm young and white! Thanks!
