Parque Nacional Tikal Tikal in May
Posted: Mon March 24, 2008 12:21 PM UTC
I'm taking a trip to Tikal May 1-3 and I have several questions.

1. what would the weather be like?
2. is it safe to explore a place by oneself (not being a part of a tourist group)?
3. any advice on MUST to do things there?

Many thanks in advance.

Tikal Comfortable way to go to Tikal from Mexico?
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 08:50 PM UTC
What is the most comfortable way to get to Tikal from Yuacatan peninsula (I suppose Campeche and/or Tulum will be the southernmost point I'd reach in Yucatan without this detour) Apart from the mentioned I'd be staying in Merida and Cancun the most time of my journey.... Is there any chance for a short trip to Tikal? How long would you estimate, that this trip takes?

btw: I suppose it is forbidden to cross the borders with hired cars, isn't it?

Tikal Cancun-Tikal?
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 05:46 PM UTC
Is there any possibility for a one or two day trips to Tikal (Flores) from Cancun?
I realize, that once there was a daily flight operated by Aviateca for around 270 $ (round trip), but unfortunately, Aviateca was liquidated...

Departamento del Petén Where to stay ...
Posted: Fri June 1, 2007 04:47 PM UTC
I'm going to the Peten region next weekend and I'm just wondering where it'd be better to stay ...

Most of the people go to Flores / Santa Elena and from there visit Tikal ... but I've read accomodation in Flores is much more expensive than in other places in Guatemala.

So I'm thinking in wether staying in El Remate (which is closer to Tikal and to the border with Belize) ... or perhaps staying at some campground in Tikal.

Has anybody ever stayed at El Remate? How is it? What about the accomodation?

In the other hand... what about camping at Tikal? Is it safe? Are there lockers available? How far from the ruins would this be?

Thanks!

Parque Nacional Tikal Travelling from Cancun - Belize but would like to stop at Tikal
Posted: Tue May 29, 2007 09:09 PM UTC
I am going to archaeological field school for the month of July, but am flying in to meet friends in Cancun 1st and this will allow me about 2 weeks of time inbetween. I have a pretty good idea of how to get from Cancun to Belize City (where I am meeting my summer arch. crew) but I would really like to get to Tikal sometime in between the 2 places. Is this even possible, worth it, etc? What kind of time table would I be looking at? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am leaving pretty soon and I should probably start thinking about my plans.

Tikal Visit Tikal from Guatemala City
Posted: Thu February 15, 2007 04:16 AM UTC
We are landing in Guatemala City mid March around 5am and we have a day and half to spend somewhere before we can check into the hotel we have booked. Wondering if zipping up to Tikal for a day and a night is doable.
1. What do roundtrip flights from Guat. City cost?
2. Where can I find schedules?
3. Where is the best place to spend the night?
4. Once the flight lands around Tikal, how does one get around? shuttle services?

Tikal looks like 'THE' Maya ruins to visit. Is that true or has it become all commercialized?

Thanks.

Departamento del Petén 3 Day hike to El Zotz/Tikal
Posted: Tue January 23, 2007 08:52 PM UTC
There are several agencies that advertise 3 day/2 night hikes from Flores to El Zotz and then to Tikal on day 3. La Casa de Don David's place even advertized just such a guided tour/hike through the jungle.

My 2 questions are:
1. Is this safe? There are a many with concerns about saftey when off the beaten path...
2. What is a reputable and trustworthy tour provider to do this with? We speak very little spanish. I've been hiking/camping in Peru on the Inca trail, and have been to Guatemala 2x before, but i've never gone on a hike where the guides did not speak english.

El Remate General Comments/Opinions
Posted: Thu January 12, 2006 10:56 PM UTC
Hello again...Yet another question...
We'll be staying in Flores while visiting Tikal, but I'm interested in El Remate. Has anyone been/stayed there? I read they have nice wood carvings and other crafts there, so perhaps we could stop over there and look around, but is it worth while? Thanks :)

Parque Nacional Tikal Shoes to wear at Tikal

When we were at Chichen Itza I wore good sandals and climbed to the top of El Castillo. Is the terrain similar at Tikal? What do you recommend? Thanks.

Tikal HAVING TROUBLE FINDING AFTERNOON FLIGHTS FROM GUAT. CITY - HELP POR FAVOR
Posted: Sun February 13, 2005 03:56 AM UTC
Hi,
I've read my Lonely Planet cover to cover, visited every website I can in English and just cannot find afternoon flights to Tikal (Flores/Santa Elena). Any ideas?
I tried Taca -but they are sold out. Tikal Jets only has am departures (from what I can see). Really don't want to waste a night in Guatemala City.

Any advice? Also, the international operator informed me that all #'s in Guatemala are now 8 digits. All the #'s in my '04 Lonely Planet are 7 digits. The US Embassy website listed a 8 digit # but they are not open until Monday. Ideas as to where I get new #'s?

Tikal From Belize City airport to Tikal
Posted: Tue February 8, 2005 12:24 AM UTC
We are arriving mid-April on a Friday at BZE at 2:30pm. Going to Tikal first, then Cayo District. We have reservations at Tikal Inn for Sat & Sun nights--and trying to decide where to stay Friday night. (1) Because of the lateness of the day, would it be better to stop overnight in San Ignacio then cross the border and go to Tikal the next day, or better to cross border the first night and stay at town of El Remate or perhaps Flores? (2) I've read that Linea Dorada has a shuttle that goes from Belize City to Flores for about BZ$50 pp. Does anyone know their schedule--if our plane lands at 2:30pm will we meet their schedule? Can we catch this shuttle from the airport or do we need to taxi to their location? Any help would be appreciated.
