Guatemala City In bus from Guatemala City to Santa Ana, El Salvador
Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 09:23 PM UTC
Hi VT-ers,

hope the community can help ... I am planning to travel by bus from Guatemala City to Santa Ana, El Salvador. Can some of you advice the best itinerary and bus company (faster and safer)?

I understand there are many bus services from Guatemala City to San Salvador and I assume the best itinerary is to take a connection to Santa Ana at some point on the way to San Salvador. Need to figure out which bus to take in GUA and in which city/stop to connect to Santa Ana.

Thank you!

Hello,

I am going to work in Guatemala city for one year, and i would like some information about the city and country?
What are the prices for appartments or houses for rent? Is living there expensive in issues like food and clothes?
Is there gyms in the city?

Thanks for any information!

Guatemala City Adoption experience, safety issues and general advice for Guatemala City March '08 trip
Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 07:31 PM UTC
For 3-7 days I will be in Guatemala City accompanying my dear friend who is adopting a baby girl. Needless to say all I have read are horror stories and warnings regarding safety, extortion of adopting parents and crimes against women in general. We are both very attractive and in my case a clearly not of latin decent. I am very concerned, am having doubts but am committed to assisting my friend. I will tone my look down, wearing minimal inexpensive jewelry and conservative clothing however, short of wearing a burka there isn't much more we can do. I want to enjoy this trip, shop for items to honor the babys heritage and not be freaking out while doing so. I would be most grateful for realistic advice regarding where to eat, my friend is a vegan, where to shop, what to pack and any pertinent info you think would assist us in this adotion journey. We anticipate staying at the Marriot in Guatemala City and will not be travelling outside of Guatemala City.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there are luggage/baggage storage facilities at GUA airport? I need to store a small bag at the airport for about one week in Jan 08. If so roughly how much does it cost per day (24-hours).
Many thanks in advance,

Departamento de Guatemala Addressing package to Guatemala
Posted: Fri October 19, 2007 10:21 PM UTC
We have visited Guatemala twice and made some life long friends. We would love to send them gifts and have their address, but we don't know the proper way to address the package. They do not live in Guatemala City. They live in a smaller town of a smaller town of Chimaltenango. Would we put the municipal of both of the smaller towns on 2 different lines and then depto of Chimaltenango (and all their postal codes) and then Guatemala, C.A.?

Guatemala City Which tour site should I use??
Posted: Mon June 11, 2007 05:39 PM UTC
My brother and I are planning a little trip to visit some cousins that live in Guatemala City. We'll need someplace that starts there. We'd like to go hike up the Pacaya Volcano, but I see conflicting accounts of the hike. One person said it takes 3 hours to hike to the top, another an hour and a half (the one site I reviewed also said 1 1/2 hours). Is it only 1 1/2 to the crater and then you can continue on? We'd like to go a little further (thus get a tour that is a little more adventurous -- we'd like to look down and see the lava!).

So - can anyone tell us which tour group they used, what they liked about it, etc? Thanks!!

Guatemala City When to go
Posted: Sat April 14, 2007 12:47 AM UTC
I have never been to Central America before.

I'm thinking of going to visit the Mayan ruins in Guatemala, Hunduras, and the Yucatan in mid May. Would this be in the rainy season? I don't want to visit when it is hurricane season.

Posted: Thu April 5, 2007 10:02 PM UTC
I have 4 days only in Guatemala. I fly in from LA to Guatemala City, and would like to go to the beaches to relax. How do I get to the Pacific from Guatemala City? Which beach is the easiest to get to? Which is the nicest?

Is it a mistake to go to the beaches if I am here for only 4 days? Are there any nice beaches at Lake Atitlan?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!!!

Guatemala City Safety/Zone 15?
Posted: Mon November 27, 2006 02:35 PM UTC
I am looking at accepting an offer to teach at an international school in Guatemala...the American School of Guatemala. It's located in Zone 15. The job seems to be everything my husband and I are looking for, but after reading about SO MUCH violent crime (on the U.S. Embassy page), we are discouraged. Please let me know what we can expect in Guate City and if we would be in imminent danger living there....there's also the issues that we *look* like foreigners! My husband is 6'3 and I'm 5'9. I studied abroad in Antigua a few years ago, and it was so wonderful we never went to the city b/c we never had any desire. Now I'm wishing we did! Please let me know any valuable info on safety or on Zone 15.

Thanks!

Hello O.o

I'll be traveling to my beautiful Guatemala in December and I wanted to know if some can hook me up with some info. I am devoted to Salsa dancing and I wanted to hit some salsa night-clubs or at least clubs that would play a variety of music, including salsa, to have a good time. Please let me know and thanks in advanced.

Hello,
I am going to take a ancient ruins tour in the month of October, my tour starts in Antigua Guatemala and will end in Mexico City. I believe I am supposed to arrive at the Guatemala City Airport and then catch a bus to Antigua. I plan on getting to Guatemala 2 or 3 days before my tour begins. If anyone has any input or advise please let me know. I would like to visit any nice places. I might be able to visit before my trip begins and what is the best way to get to Antigua from Guatemala City.

Guatemala City Living expenses
Posted: Sun June 25, 2006 04:01 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

I`m planning to move to la ciudad de Guatemala. One of the international schools there is offering me a job for 2 years. However, I`m not sure about the salary: They pay 3500 Quetzales per month. Living i.e. in zone 10: Is that enough to make a relatively nice and safe living? What are the prices for appartments?
Thanks for any information!

Saludos!

Guatemala City Working in Guate Summer 2006
Posted: Fri May 19, 2006 07:51 PM UTC
I will be working for a non-profit in zona 1 in Guatemala City this summer ('06) from the middle of July to the middle of August. I am looking for a place to stay that will be relatively cheap, clean and (most importantly) safe. I am a female that will be traveling alone, and want to be where there are young people, so I can hopefully meet people to travel with on weekends. Any advice on good places that could offer decent rates for longer-term visitors? dorms of guesthouses?

Also, I was thinking that since Antigua is only an hour or so away, maybe I could commute from Antigua into Guatemala City for a week. how reasonable/possible is that to do, as far as expenses, length of trip and safety goes?

Departamento de Guatemala Safety in Guatemala

I want to travel in july to guatemala to make first a language course in Antigua and than to make voluntary work with ARCAS wildlife rehabilitation center in Peten. The only thing that keeps me of is the safety in Guatemala. I read a lot of dangerous things. Are these things true, is it really as dangerous?

Guatemala City bus from Mexico to Guatemala City
Posted: Tue March 21, 2006 05:57 AM UTC
I'm thinking about taking the bus from Mexico City to Guatemala City. I will be arriving at Juarez International Airport in Mexico and, if possible, take the bus from there to Guetamala City from where I will then transfer bus to Quetzaltenango. Can anyone give any input on the price range of the bus and/or recommend some bus lines? I have never been to Latin America and I don't speak any Spanish, so any suggestion is welcome. Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm a Canadian college student planning a trip to Central America this Sept. or Oct. I'd love to hear from you if you are either planning to visit this area as well, or if you have been before and have some advice for me! I'm interested in volunteering in the area, especially with kids like in an orphanage or elementary school. If you have any ideas or experiences please let me know! Are Guatemala city/Antigua safe for female travellers alone? Any helpful hints? Please let me know! cassiopia_100@yahoo.com
