traveling to and marrying in San Salvador El Salvador Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 02:15 AM UTC
I am a U.S. citizen wanting to travel with my fiance who is from El Salvador, next year. As El Salvadorean citizens need to show financial status to apply for visa's, do U.S. citizens need too, also?
Also, if we marry in El Salvador do we have to re marry in U.S. for marriage to be recognized?
I want to marry outside, maybe on a mountain or hillside over looking the city of San Salvador during a sunset or during sunset on a beach there? Anyone know of such a place?
Thanks for the response.

Cerro Verde Posted: Sat April 11, 2009 05:53 AM UTC
If you want to climb Santa Ana or Izalco I know there are police guided tours leaving at 11am. But are they leaving every day, even if there would be no other tourist than me who wants to go that day?
My first intention was to visit Cerro Verde on two separate days (from Santa Ana) to climb both volcanoes. If I should choose just one, which one is the best to climb?

Itinerary in El Salvador Posted: Sun March 15, 2009 01:23 PM UTC
In a few months I will visit El Salvador and I have just started to do some planning. I will spend about 10 days in El Salvador and so far I think my itinerary can look something like this:
Day 1 - Arriving in San Salvador around noon.
Day 2 - San Salvador
Day 3 - To Tacuba
Day 4 - Parque Nacional El Imposible
Day 5 - Parque Nasional El Imposible
Day 6 - To Ataco
Day 7 - To Santa Ana
Day 8 - Vulcán Izalco (daytrip from Santa Ana)
Day 9 - Vulcán Santa Ana (daytrip from Santa Ana)
Day 10 From Santa Ana to Santa Rosa de Copan in Honduras (I don’t think I can make it to Copán Ruinas in one day)
What do you think? Is it plausible?
If I can get one or two days more to spend in El Salvador I want to go to the beach, but don’t know where. I would like to go somewhere with a relaxed atmosphere (where I can lay in a hammock reading, listening to the waves) and not too far away from the other places I plan to visit. Any suggestions?

Bus to Jaco and places to stay Posted: Sun September 14, 2008 11:37 PM UTC
Hi We arrive at the airport @ noon on 12/21 and want to get to Jaco. Where is the best place to catch a bus if there is one? And anyone know any inexpensive places to stay in Jaco for the night? We are catching the fast boat to Montezuma the next day at 10:30 a.m. at Herradura beach.
Also we will be in San Jose 12/30 and 12/31; we leave on 1/1/09. Any suggestions on fun places to stay for a few days and new years eve in San Jose?
Thanks

visiting with kids Posted: Tue August 19, 2008 12:40 AM UTC
My son, 13, has been invited to attend a soccer school with his best friend (el salvadorian)(presently we all live in Canada) for 6-12 months this winter. The plan is for the dad and two boys to live with family in Buena Vista in San Salvador. Is this a great cultural/ linguistic/ sport opportunity for him or a dangerous/nutty idea? My son is blondy and blue-eyed by the way. He is very for it. My husband says he can only go if I go too ( with my 10 year old daughter). We would live nearby and soak up the experence too and kind of homeschool. October. Thanks for insight.

Safe and affordable accommodation Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 07:50 AM UTC
I'm a solo female American traveler looking for some affordable and safe accommodation, either a hostel or homestay.. preferrably a homestay to really help me with my deplorable Spanish. I won't be in ES for more than 5 or 6 days.
I'd like to spend no more than $30/day, including everything, but can expand that for the right place. Advice? Experiences?

Seeking Advice On Visitng El Salvador Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 05:16 AM UTC
I am heading to El Salvador at the end of April. I have never been, so I do not know much, but I am researching as much as possible. I have numerous questions, which I will list below, and I am hoping a local inhabitant or an experienced traveler to El Salvador can answer, or just provide some beta.
> As of now, I will be alone. A friend may join me, but so far no word yet. Am I crazy if I go alone? I am basing in San Salvador for the three days, four nights. My hotel is safe and well known.
> I want to rent a vehicle, so I can drive around the country to check out the coast and especially the volcanoes. Is renting a vehicle a good idea? Again, I'll be alone. I like the idea of renting a car, so I can see more of the country and then return to San Salvador at dusk.
> I definitely want to hike some volcanoes. No problem on reaching a trailhead and going up one during the daytime (don't worry, I am a very strong climber)? Any issues for me if I go it alone?
> I don't want to get spooked and stay in the hotel after dark, so is it really that bad in San Salvador? Can I walk into a cantina or bar and enjoy a beer, or will I be given the "stink-eye" by the patrons since I am a gringo?
I love to travel, and I've been to 16 countries so far. I am definitely looking forward to the trip, I just don't want it to be a total calamity. I don't want to be scared of visiting, especially since most of the postings on VT indicate everyone has had a great time in El Salvador.
If you have any beta to share, please reply here. And, if you will be in San Salvador during 4/21 - 4/24, shoot me a line, and we can try to meet up.
Thank you so much. Happy traveling to all.
-Scott

tropicana beach club Posted: Thu November 29, 2007 10:09 PM UTC
my family stayed at this resort with a group of Canadians and Americans in feb of 2000. We swam and jumped in the waves, and played volleyball on the beautiful beach. It cost about $10US a night back then, and we really enjoyed it. I understand that El Salvador has adopted the US dollar now. What does it cost to stay at this resort now?
