Salamanca Student accommodation
Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 11:56 AM UTC
Dear all,

I'm studying at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca for 4 weeks in July 2008. I am enrolled for shared double room + 3 meals at the University hall for 640euros a month. This seems a bit pricy to me, as I have been looking at ads online (for e.g. www.loquo.com). I know it's trickier because I'm only seeking to flat for 4 weeks, but do you have any suggestions?? I would prefer to cook my own food and have my own room, and for cheaper! ?Es posible, no?

Gracias y hasta pronto!

HELP. I have booked a hotel in Segovia on Tuesday, May 27th and have booked a hotel in Salamanca on Wednesday, the 28th. I am having trouble finding transportation between Segovia and Salamanca. Is there is a train route? A bus company that takes that route? We will not be renting a car.

Salamanca Question on Avila
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 08:58 PM UTC
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was short term luggage storage in Avila. I will be staying in Salmanca and will stay the next night in Madrid. If possible, I would like to make a short stop in Avila and see what I can in the time I have but it won't be possible if I have to haul around luggage. Thanks in advance for your help.

Salamanca U. of Salamanca clothing items?
Posted: Fri February 22, 2008 03:02 PM UTC
My daughter studied at U. of Salamanca several years ago. There, she bought a baby blue sweatshirt (small) with the university's name and logo.

She recently lost that shirt.

Short of flying to Spain to get her a replacement, is there a store in Salamanca that sells similar university clothing, and accepts on-line orders (by credit card) for shipmnet to the US?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

All the best,

Salamanca Places to stay for backpackers
Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 08:37 PM UTC
Hey there! I'm hopefully gonna be in Salamanca in June and will be travelling with my boyfriend. We'd love to spend as little as possible on accomodation (we're backpacking around spain)and are open to cheap hotels, hostels, guesthouses, camping....

The only thing we do ask is that it would be a private room- I know I'd feel uncomfortable sleeping in a room with strangers.

Thank you!

Salamanca 2 to 3 star hotels in the city center of Salamanca
Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 08:41 AM UTC
Hi all! I've been to Salamanca just once but stayed in Hotel Vincci (good rates) which was a bit far from the city. I am taking some friends of mine with me. Some are quite elderly who prefer a hotel in the city center so in case they get tired, it is easy to return to the hotel.

What would be a nice 2 to 3 star hotel in the city center, ranging from around 60 to 80 Euros for a double standard room you can recommend?

What restaurant can anyone recommend to try in the area of the old city or city center?

Thanks!

Anyone know a place in Salamanca where I can buy an adaptor to convert a US hair dryer to European voltage? I came thinking I could buy one here. Pretty stupid, I know.

Salamanca La Alberca or Avila to Porto...via Salamanca?
Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 08:55 PM UTC
My husband and I will be participating in an English immersion program in La Alberca (a lovely place) for the 2nd time this September. After that, we need to get from La Alberca to Porto for a Douro River cruise. We have a few over 48 hours to do this.

From the train maps, it appears there is a path, through Salamance to Coimbra to Porto. Would that be the best way to go or should we try one/more bus rides or even a rental car?

One challenge: my husband travels with a Segway (www.segway.com) to help him get around. Method of transport needs to accommodate it. We have flown with it to/from Madrid and other places and he's used it in La Alberca on the cobblestones and in parks on groomed trails.

Salamanca Which language school?
Posted: Thu February 1, 2007 01:58 PM UTC
My daughter and I want to study Spanish in Salamanca for two weeks next summer. I've looked at a number of programs. One that stands out for price, class size, AC, free tutoring, etc. is "Espanol Pro". Unfortunately, I have not been able to contact anyone from there via email. Does anyone know anything about this progam? If not, we do need to save money, so we are looking for a good program, but not the most expensive. Any suggestions?

Salamanca Studying in Salamanca
Posted: Tue January 30, 2007 10:59 AM UTC
Hi, I am a 20 year old female and I am looking at going to Salamanca to learn Spanish for about 6 months.

I think the best school I've found is Enforex. Does anyone have any experience with them? Or would the University of Salamanca be better?

My other question is regarding money. How do most people pay for things while out there? Should I open a Spanish bank account (if i was to use my English account I would incur charges everytime I took money out). And although travellers cheques would be ok for big purchases, for little things like food, I would want to use cash. But I don't want to carry 6 months of cash around with me!

Any other opinions from people who have done this would be greatly appreciated.

Salamanca Semester abroad in Salamanca
Posted: Sun January 28, 2007 09:43 AM UTC
Hi all

I'm new here and am obviously hoping to get a lot of questions answered :) I'm planning on spending a semester abroad in Salamanca (starting in July as I want to learn Spanish before classes start). So I have a few questions

Obviously the first one regards accomodation. Normally I would love to share a place but since I have a dog and cat I think it will be too difficult. Does anyone know whether the landlords are difficult with regards to pets? I have a budget of about 450 euros a month for a place and as far as I can see it appears that that will get me a studio... Any info in where I can find good independent accomodation... Reliable ppl...

Also I'm looking at taking Spanish lessons during the summer. Could anyone of you reccomend me a good school (that will not ruin my finances)? I've been checking around on the net but of course sometimes not everything is on there so...

Ok I'll be sure to keep posting questions. However if anyone has any questions reagrding Maastricht (Netherlands) or Johannesburg (South Africa) please feel free to aks me :)

Cheers

Salamanca Mester vs. Don Quijote
Posted: Tue November 7, 2006 04:48 AM UTC
I'm planning on going to Salamanca this summer to study Spanish, and was wondering if anybody here had opinions on the shools Mester and Don Quijote. I studied through Mester in 2005 and I really liked it, and I also like it's location better than Don Quijote's. But does anyone know which program is better?

When visiting Spain the first time I loved Salamanca, but also liked Madrid and Barcelona, do you think it is worth it to go through DQ and do a program in all three cities each for 2 weeks? Or will I not get enough of a feeling of the city?

Salamanca sorry
Posted: Sat August 19, 2006 11:32 PM UTC
sorry obviosuly my questions offended someone they're not the only questions i have and they might sound dumb because they are silly but they popped into my head for some reason. If you can't be nice about it please don't comment..are you that mean that you have to take time out of your day to go out of your way to insult and upset a complete stranger? I'm sure you're not and you were just having a bad day or something just please don't do it again. I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I'm really sorry I guess I didn't know the guidelines.

Salamanca drinkss
Posted: Sat August 19, 2006 07:47 PM UTC
I've heard that drinks in Salamanca are inexpensive..I'm trying to plan how much money I need to bring for 90 days there. How cheap exactly are they? Like for a beer for example? Sorry I have a lot of questions but when you go out do the locals speak strictly Spanish or are you able to have a conversation with them in English at all?
