Hotel option Posted: Fri August 7, 2009 10:18 PM UTC
My husband and I are considering Punta Cana for our next vacation. We have looked at the Grand Palladium and think this is where we may stay but want some information on the area since we have never been to Punta Cana. We would like to have an all inclusive hotel that is within walking distance to shopping/nightlife and also on the beach. Would the Grand Palladium fit those requirements??? And if not, can you tell me which hotels to look at?? Thanks so much!! :)

About those locals Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 06:19 PM UTC
Hi, I'm again travelling to Punta Cana & this time staying in a resort (instead of an apt.) at Bavaro Beach. My boyfriend is a local guy from San Pedro & I've heard the resorts don't always welcome the locals. We'll be staying at an all-inclusive & wondered if you've heard of any situations. thanks.

RENTAL CAR AGENCIES IN OR NEAR AIRPORT Posted: Wed April 15, 2009 05:36 PM UTC
I will be coming down for 2 weeks in October and wanted to get a car rental. What agencies are available at the airport? Also, how is the driving in the area? I've driven many times on St. Thomas USVI (on the right side) so how does this compare with DR. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Sharing Room Issue! Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 01:20 AM UTC
We are off to PC next month... I cant wait! Unfortunatly there is one issue NOW!!! Im going with my husband and younger sister. We are all pretty close so going together was never an issue until I told someone the sleeping arragements, ..."You guys are gonna share a room???!!!". "Yea!" Ever since then I cant stop thinking about it.
My husband nor myself thought about "alone time" when we asked her to come along with us. She has never been on a vacation let alone on a plane and thought it would be cool for us to go away together, shes super excited. My friend thinks Im crazy for doing this but its already set and I could never bring myself to say something to her about it.
My husband and I are both 28, sister is 23. Im sure we will have a great time regardless but are there any ideas to get around this? Im now hoping when we get there she kind of knows to give us some time alone!

cheap hotel for the night Punta Cana Posted: Tue March 31, 2009 09:32 AM UTC
I will be visiting Punta Cana for one night only with a friend and wondered if there are any decent -non-inclusive hotels that can be recommended. I am looking to spend say40-50 for the night - no more- nothing spectacluar- but soemthing more Dominican and authentic than the usual European style of which they seem to have many. A nice hotel, beachwards, where Dominicans go.
thanks Mike

Picky eater Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 07:57 AM UTC
Hi, I am going to be at the Melia hotel next week for a week. I have never been to an all inclusive type of hotel with the meals. I am a picky eater. I don't eat dairy, fried food, seafood or gluten. Can I get things made without? Can I get soy tea lattes, which I drink every day at home? I am not an early bird. Will I miss breakfast? Is there room service at these places? I called my hotel but the night people didn't understand my question. I emailed them last week and have not heard back. I hope there are not buffets. I rather have food served. Also I am looking for heathly snacks, not junk food. Also I am a wine snob. What kind of wine is served at these places. I can't believe I am being charged 185 dollars a day for food and drink. I don't spend that much on my own daily. But thank goodness, it is an expensive account for work.
Will the local grocery stores carry soy milk or yogurt?
Thanks for the info.
Any one around the 21st to the 27th? Would love to meet up and have drinks.

Too busy in March? Posted: Fri January 23, 2009 01:58 AM UTC
Hi,
I was looking to go on vacation toward the end of march when I realized that is spring break for colleges. My boyfriend and I are 25 and still like to party a bit and drink but I wouldn't want to have a party scene everywhere with loud drunks 24/7. I have never been on vacation and would like to be able to relax. Is it going to be way too busy for us to enjoy ourselves? (march 20 -26th probably). Please let me know what you think. Thanks! - Erin

Dominican Republic in February Posted: Sat January 17, 2009 09:49 PM UTC
Hi, am planning on just a week getaway, celebrating with my mom who just turned 70 but is still full of life. I am hoping someone can help me out with some suggestions.
Puerta Plata vs Punta Cana looking for a resort that will satisfy both of us. We both like the sun me a bit more than my mom , but am looking for a resort that will satisfy both of us, friendly, am not picky about food or accomodations but for my mom want something good for her. I don't mind hanging out playing bingo, but am also looking for some good night life at the resort ..and combine a bit of day time culture that I can venture out on my own, although I have never been at a resort, don't mind staying if there if there are options to participate or watch activities.
Thank you!

getting thru airport customs w/ gifts for locals & maids Posted: Tue December 30, 2008 06:10 PM UTC
we are traveling to punta cana in about 10 days ( 1/9/09 ). i have been reading alot of reviews (thanks guys) to get tips & tricks :) we will be bringing gifts for the maids / gardeners and the children (yes, as well as $$ for tipping). I have separated the gift paks into clear gallon plastic ziplock bags. will most likely pak a few of these bags in each suitcase as not to surpass the weight limit. the gift bags include toys , cosmetics , clothing , sewing kits, buttons & fabric , $1 store bifocal & sun glasses ,household items etc....just a small variety of items in each bag. Do you think that customs will make a big deal of this and take each bag apart etc or do they just scan like regular USA airports ? Does anyonr know what is and isn't allowed to be brought in ? should i express that these are gift for locals? We don't want to be arrested our first day there :)Ant answers would be appreciated :) thanks !!

Wedding Planning Trip Posted: Tue December 30, 2008 04:20 PM UTC
I am getting married in the Dominican Republic in Punta Cana on November 21st 2009. I am planning on presenting my guests with a few gifts but am reluctant to have the items shipped there and then possibly have them get stuck in customs or not be there when I arrive.
I would like to know if I can buy pretty fans, parasols, cigar cutters or cigar cases, cigarette lighters, umbrella's, candles, and bath salts at any of the shops or vendors there.
I am most concerned with the parasols and fans, especially plain/white ones.
I can't find any reference to these items in any of the posts that I've read about shopping in the area,....
These items are needed for my wedding.
Please let me know where I can buy these items in Punta Cana area and for about how much.

Traveling to Punta Cana Posted: Sun October 26, 2008 09:00 PM UTC
We are planning a trip to Punta Cana in February, 14th through 21st. Staying at the Premier Palace Resort. We have never been to the Caribbean and would really love to hear from those that have been before us. We are taking my Daughter and Son-on-law. My Daughter will be 5+ months pregnant. (first baby) Are there any health precautions we should know about? How is the weather in February? Do we need any vaccinations before traveling? Any advise or memories you could share would be really great. We are willing to change our travel date if we need to. What is the best time of year to travel? Thank you so much for your time on our requests. Sincerely, Nancy

Resorts Posted: Wed October 1, 2008 04:30 PM UTC
Hi. Looking for recommendations re best all-inclusive Punta Cana beach resorts and the best time of the year to go there. I spent two years in Puerto Rico in the Marine Corps in the mid 1960s and did not see any beaches there that were as spectacular as Punta Cana beaches. So it is a must see for me. But there are so many resorts that one hardly knows which to choose. Is there some kind of guidebook that sets out all 24 or so beach resorts? Thanks in advance, Dave.

Nightlife in Punta Cana? Posted: Tue September 30, 2008 05:47 AM UTC
Hi all!
I want to go away with a bunch of girlfriends this December and we have our sights set on Punta Cana! A few of us have been in the past and know the beach and day activities are great but don't really know whats available as far as nightlife!
I came across some nightclub info...Webster Hall, Mangu....but was wondering if anyone else hand some more info or websites for these places??
Also has anyone been to the Palma Real Shopping Plaza? I really want to do somethings off the resort...but dont necessarily want to spend the whole day on a tour. Wouldn't mind checking out things in the area...so any Punta Cana experts please give me your insight?

Transportation on Weekend from Punta Cana Airport to Santo Domingo Posted: Mon September 15, 2008 06:25 PM UTC
I am going to arrive to Punta Cana Airport in Nov. but my final destination is Santo Domingo, I am arriving around 4:30, that means around 6 pm I will be able to start my trip to Santo Domingo on a Saturday.
My question is about transportation from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo.
I have already contact a local travel agency in StoDomingo and they ask 350us to take me to Santo Domingo. That is not a fair rate. Do you know if there is a public transportation safe traveling on Saturdays after 6 pm from Punta Cana Airport to Santo Domingo???
What option do I have?
Or, the best is to spent one night there and take an excursion from the hotel the next day to Santo Domingo??
Thanks for your help
This is for a International conference scheduled in Sto Domingo and not for turism.
Thanks.

Advise: Should I go to Punta Cana in October? Posted: Wed September 10, 2008 06:40 PM UTC
I'm looking for a nice all-inclusive beach vacation in October and I've been eyeing Punta Cana. It sounds like October is right at the end of the rainy season but I've also read that it's one of the two peak months for hurricanes.
Does that sound too risky? Has anyone been to Punta Cana in October before?
