Way of St james - Camino Santiago/Jacobeo Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 05:06 AM UTC
I'm thinking of walking part of this route with a friend in the summer. We aren't sprightly old codgers, although we are over 60, but fit, kinda. We're thinking of walking a fortnight. Is 20km a day a realistic target? If we want to end in Santiago, where should we think of starting? Is there a better forum for this?

I'm trying to find a way to travel by bus from Guimaraes, Portugal, to Santiago de compostela, Spain. I've tried searching the webpages of Eva, Rede and rodonorte bus companies, but found there's no direct bus from guimaraes to santiago de compostela. Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot!

Long Term Car Parking Posted: Sun March 23, 2008 11:08 AM UTC
We are cycling the Camino from Leon to Santiago. However we wish to leave our car in Santiago for 7 nights since we intend to get a train to Leon for the start of Camino. Does anyone recommend a car park in Santiago that is also relatively safe?

Cookies? Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 06:57 AM UTC
Hello Everyone!
I am on a hunt to find this almond cookie I ate when I santiago last year at easter time. We were walking up a street, the name I don't remember, but it had stores on both sides and was very close to the cathedral. We were stopped by women outside a store handing out a type of almond cookie or biscotti. It was delicious.. It was not the torta de santiago but a cookie. We went back to buy some and the box had a picture of a man walking on it, i believe a pilgrim..
If anyone knows the name of these cookies please let me know because I have searched so many sites and when i google the cookies that I fine, none of them look right! I would love to order a box or two for my family so if someone can point me in that direction that would be so helpful.. Thank you!

Can someone please answer a question for my husband. One of his mates told him that a carton of beer cost $12Aud ( 7.20Euro). And another thing he was told was that you can get a drivers license at 15 years old. All my research says 18. Thanks

Seminario Mayor Posted: Sat July 7, 2007 09:55 PM UTC
Ten years ago I made a wonderful trip to Galicia and while in Santiago, I stayed at "Seminario Mayor", the seminary, which is a hostel while students are on holiday. Apart from rather economical, I found the rooms to be clean and calm.
Next month I'm back to Galicia again. On the Galicia guide I recently bought, it says that if you stay at Seminario in Santiago, one might come up with some "infection".
No idea if they refer to lice or whatever. For me it's hard to believe that it has changed so much for the last 10 years and think the author must be exagerating. I would book a bedroom there at once but my wife, who has never been to Santiago, is afraid of what we read on the guide.
Has anyone stayed there recently? Is it worhtwhile staying there?

Places to visit around Santiago Posted: Thu May 31, 2007 06:55 PM UTC
Hi,
I will go to Santiago de Compostela for 3 days. I was thinking about spending 2 days in Santiago and go somewhere else for a day. What would you recommend?
I will be using public transport so should be kind of close to Santiago as I don't want to spend the day travelling. Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance,

From Santiago to Finisterre (Fisterra) Posted: Mon April 16, 2007 06:29 PM UTC
Hello! I am planning to visit Santiago de Compostela in June 07. I have a few questions that I hope somebody can give me some advice:
1/ How many days do you reckon I should stay in SDC the city itself(excluding tours to other regions)? 3 days max.?
2/ I have read that there are local day tours to Finisterre from SDC. Is that true?
3/ I have also read that it takes 3 days to walk from SDC to Finisterre. Is that true? Are there a lot of people along the route (since I am an independent traveller, female, safety is a big precaution)?
MANY THANKS in advance.

Finisterre and guided walks around Santiago Posted: Sun December 31, 2006 12:44 AM UTC
Hi, any help on this question welcomed!
I'm visiting SDC for the first time in January, just a short break of 2 full days. I'd like to see Finisterre if possible during my visit. I understand that a public bus goes there, but does anyone know if there are organised day tours- so I might get to see other villages etc. Also, are there guided walks around SDC, either with a guide, or recorded info etc?
I'm quite happy just to wander around by myself, but I sometimes find that a guided tour gives a better insight for a first time visitor.
Thanks,
Sue X

Fatima to Santiago de Compostela Posted: Mon September 25, 2006 10:41 AM UTC
Dear Friends! I need yor advice how to get from Fatima to Santiago de Compostela in a guickest way. I found at http://www.cp.pt/ that there is a suitable train from Fatima to Valenca (8:19 - 14:28, 12:46 - 18:21) but I am not sure how to get to SdC from Valenca. This is probably regional feature of railway sites.
Any other oportunities with travel by bus or train overnight from Fatima, Porto or Salamanca?
Thanks. Yuri.
