Purto plata in December Posted: Wed November 4, 2009 02:58 PM UTC
My wife and I will be traveling to puerto plata and had some questions. We are staying in maimon bay.
1) We like to hike and I noticed that isabel de torres and El Choco national parks are close by. What is the best mode of transportation to these locations.
2) What is the cost of the diferent types of transportation.
3) How far away is Caberete.
thanks

Santiago De Los Caballeros to the Coast? Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 05:51 AM UTC
Hello all,
I will be studying in Santiago De Los Caballeros next semester, and I was wondering how far the city is from the coast. I'm specifically interested in good surf or dive spots that make good day or weekend trip from the city.
Thanks for any/all help,

Caribbean Island - Family Friendly, Snorkeling and Golf? Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 03:21 PM UTC
What is the best Caribbean destination that is family friendly, with good snorkeling and golf? We love St. John, USVI for the access to great snorkeling directly from the beaches, availability of villas for traveling with kids (ages 5 and 7) and their grandparents (ages 75 and 80), but going to St. Thomas for golf is not very convenient. We went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic last year, where the golf and accommodations were great and convenient, but snorkeling was not good (and there was too much seaweed washing up on the beach). Where is the best place for access to all three (family friendly, good snorkeling, good golf)??? Thanks for any suggestions!!!

FIRST BABY SHOWER Posted: Sun October 11, 2009 07:33 PM UTC
Our good friend is having their very first born. We just received a very formal invitation and my wife and I will be flying to Punta Cana for these BABY SHOWER. What is the usual custom for the Dominicans when it comes to baby shower? Is it only my wife that will come to the baby shower? This is a formal party, as it is their very first child - BOY! What is the usualy gift. The celebration or the baby shower starts at 8 in the evening and ends at midnight, it's a seat down dinner. What is the usualy gift for these baby shower? Any local suggestions would be very hepful as these is our fist time to go to Dominican Republic and being invited for a formal baby shower. GRACIAS.

Advice for first time in D R. Posted: Sat October 10, 2009 04:48 PM UTC
Thinking of taking a holiday A.I. during the month of January, can anyone advise me what weather to expect. As I have never been before, and know very little about the D R. I would also like some tips on where to stay, e.g. Sosua, Playa Dorado, or maybe the east coast. We like to be able to leave the hotel, and see some of the local area, if this is possible. Also if anyone can suggest a good hotel, not top price type, we don't need spa treatments or a gym etc, as we are senior citizens. Have been looking in Thomson and Thomas Cook, also Air tours brochures. We would feel more confident doing it with a tour operator, as it's our first time. Plan to have all inclusive. Hope someone out there can help, thank you. JANNCOX

Want an island tour Posted: Tue September 29, 2009 01:32 AM UTC
We will be staying in Punta Cana in January 2010. We would like to take a day trip around the island. I've been unable to locate an organized tour. We'd like to see Puerta Plata, Santiago, and the mountains if possible. Is that even possible to do in one VERY LONG day?

Options for flying Puerto Plata back to the US ? Opciones para volar Puerto Plata a EE UU? Posted: Wed September 16, 2009 01:18 AM UTC
Hello,
We'll be in a resort around Puerto Plata next week and since my wife is pregnant and has had a history of pregnancy problems, we wanted to be ready to fly back to the US if an emergency arises. So I've been trying to figure out what flights back to the US are available.
So far these are the only 3 daily flights that I've been able to research / Estos son los 3 vuelos diarios que he encontrado:
Continental, 1:10pm, New York, 4 hrs
Jetblue, 2:50pm, New York, 4 hrs
American Airlines, 4:30pm, Miami, 2hrs
Do you know if there's other flights from POP to anywhere in the US, or is there another big nearby airport? Saben si hay algun otro vuelo ademas de esos desde el aeropuerto POP hacia los Estados Unidos, o hay alguno otro aeropuerto internacional cerca?
Thanks/ Gracias!

Hotel option Posted: Fri August 7, 2009 10:18 PM UTC
My husband and I are considering Punta Cana for our next vacation. We have looked at the Grand Palladium and think this is where we may stay but want some information on the area since we have never been to Punta Cana. We would like to have an all inclusive hotel that is within walking distance to shopping/nightlife and also on the beach. Would the Grand Palladium fit those requirements??? And if not, can you tell me which hotels to look at?? Thanks so much!! :)

"Non-touristy" things to do around Puerto Plata Posted: Thu July 9, 2009 04:52 PM UTC
Hi there, we're staying at the Sun Village Resort in Puerto Plata and would love to get out of the resort and actually experience some "real" Dominican Republic, not just a pretty beach in a fancy resort but also some cultural and historical aspects of the Dominican Republic. We're there for a week.
It seems a little difficult to get out of the resort, as there's nothing around. I'm sure the resort people would be happy to get us a taxi for a 500% markup, but I'll pass on that. And I'm not a big fan of being hauled around with 20 other clueless tourists in a big bus to carefully selected manicured locations and shops.
What would you recommend? Hire a taxi for a day? How can I get a taxi that is not doing a kickback to the resort? How much might that be? Where should/could we go?
It's myself, my wife and our 2-yr old toddler. He's a pretty good traveller and has already been to 9 countries in his 2-yrs of life so we'll enjoy most things within reason.
Oh yes, and I'm fluent in Spanish (native speaker) so not too worried about the language.
Thanks! Carlos

About those locals Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 06:19 PM UTC
Hi, I'm again travelling to Punta Cana & this time staying in a resort (instead of an apt.) at Bavaro Beach. My boyfriend is a local guy from San Pedro & I've heard the resorts don't always welcome the locals. We'll be staying at an all-inclusive & wondered if you've heard of any situations. thanks.
