Hotel Seville City Center Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 11:57 PM UTC
I was in Seville during the summer 2008 and I would like to return around spring next year. I know that this is a very critical date to look for an accommodation and thought to start my researches already. On the agency´s website I have previously booked with (very good service and would like to book through them again), I have found the following two hotels and would like to know if anyone has stayed in either of them already:
Hotel Zaida
http://seville.sleepngo.com/en/hotel-zaida
Hotel Marian
http://seville.sleepngo.com/en/hotel-marian/
Or if someone has stayed in any of the other hotels listed (within my budget;-)), I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you, flamencon

RENTING APARTMENT IN SEVILLE END OF OCTOBER Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 03:01 PM UTC
Dear fellow VT members, my husband and I will be in Seville in a few weeks and want to rent an apartment instead of hotel. We are there four nights and prefer to be in the Santa Cruz or Plaza Neuva area this being our first visit. We need at least one bedroom and would love something charming and old world. Any suggestions out there? We would like to stay at $125 US a night or below. From what I see on websites this is doable but I don't know what to trust. All the pictures look great ......Any help MUCH appreciated. And I will post on our return. Thanks.

Sevilla Day Trip Parking and recommendations Posted: Thu October 1, 2009 08:15 PM UTC
I am staying in Vilamoura for a week and am going to drive to Sevilla for a day trip. We would like to visit the old jewish quarter and also the cathedral.
Can anyone recommend a good parking spot with easy access. I hear the metro is now open, would one of the stations be a good place to leave the car for the day with easy access to the city?
Also any recommendations on "must see's" time permitting?
I guess we will be in town between 11 am and 9pm
Any advice would be appreciated.

Attitudes, outlooks, manners Posted: Sun August 9, 2009 08:45 AM UTC
I'm a student in Lapland and while I'm not able to move to Spain next term even if I'd love to, I'm planning an eventual escape to my beloved society, Spain, as a graduate student or indefinitely. I think the spanish in Catalonia are individual and spontaneous. It makes me feel like having the social acceptance I never had in Finland, and like seeing the emotions of people very easily. Yet Sevilla seems bourgeois, middle class, indirect, distant, anti-social, cold, prejudiced and tough. People seem to act like walking straight ahead without expressing any attention to the environment or reacting with emotion, like in Barcelona. Are sevillan people like this because they are snobs/elitists or is there the same of authoritarian, patriarchal pressure to hide feelings like Finland? Is my theory correct? Which city, Barcelona or Seville is more individualist and spontaneous, tolerant, open and social?

Bus or train? Posted: Sun July 12, 2009 09:41 AM UTC
Bus or train?
Travelling from Sevilla to Granada:
Both Renfe train and ALSA bus take ~3 hours.
The price difference is negligable...Euro22.70/Euro19.32
Hours of travel equally convenient for me.
Question: Which is to be preferred?
The bus is a 'normal' bus, not a 'supra'.
Does the bus make rest stops on a 3 hour trip?
I ask because I smoke and I am presuming that there is no smoking on the train.
Or perhaps I am wrong - would there still be smoking cars on a regional train?
Do both or either have air-conditioning?
Are the seats more or less equally comfortable?
Anything of special note for the one or the other?
Thanks!

Wine tasting Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 05:17 AM UTC
Looking for a nice wine tour -- had an excellent trip in Melbourne that took multiple sign ups (instead of a private tour)in one big van to different wineries (had the sweetest, most rib-tickling driver, especially on the trip home! :). Everything I see in Spain seems to center on "private" tours. Any help finding a more "assorted" group (and more reasonably priced) tour? Either Madrid, Sevilla or Barcelona?

Best spot to stay? Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 08:20 PM UTC
I am trying to understand the different quarters, and wondering which section is truly the best to be in (especially for those depending on foot/public transportation)
I have seen what looks like a nice place, closer to the train station (where we will be arriving and departing from) and they advertise within easy distance of the main tourist attractions. Some comments say it is easy walking distance; others complain it's too far. 3 in particular I saw were Pasarela Hotel Sevilla, Sevilla Center, and HOtel Occidental Sevilla, which was quite close to the train station.
Any thoughts on those, or what is the best area to stay? And we are arriving in town around midnight -- will we have any trouble getting transportation?

Which area? Posted: Sat May 16, 2009 09:00 AM UTC
For a mature woman travelling solo, searching for a budget hotel/hostal which area is to be preferred:
Arenal or the Juderia (Old Jewish Quarter)?
I do understand that in the Juderia most streets are pedestrian only?
I am thinking in terms of safety first - going out to eat in the evening, returning after 2200 (10.pm) after a show and so on...
Secondly availability of walking/travelling to the main tourist sites; bus/metro stops near-by.
Also important: places to eat in the evening that are fairly near-by.

Still searching... Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 12:55 PM UTC
Still searching for a budget hotel/hostal/B&B in Sevilla for under Euro55 a night.
Have tried some agencies, but can't find anything suitable.
Must be in a neighbourhood safe for a mature woman travelling solo to return at night.
Clean and safe are the by words. No luxury needed.
Would prefer, but not insist on a private shower/toilet.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

Hostal/Budget hotel? Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 04:33 PM UTC
Have searched for hours. Looking for a clean, safe hostal or budget hotel in Sevilla. Must be in a neighbourhood safe for a mature woman travelling solo.
The closer to the centre the better of course. Price should be under Euro 55 for a single room.
Thanks.

meeting in Sevilla Posted: Thu April 23, 2009 11:36 AM UTC
Hi guys.
I will be in Sevilla in a couple of days.
And I was wondering if any VT´s that live in Sevilla would like to get together of a cup of coffee and some talk?
I´m a solo traveller...and I would be great to get to meet some local people or expat. Travelling alone can get a bit boring ^^
Nothing strange...just a casual meeting.
Thanks

Programm Ferias de Abril in Sevilla Posted: Sat April 4, 2009 12:41 PM UTC
We'll be in Sevilla the first weekend of May and found out that our first day in the city is also the last day of what seems to be the big 'ferias de abril' (we already found the hotel to be expensive that day; now we know why....).
As we're there anyway, we'd like to grasp the opportunity and see what's going on, but we don't seem to be able to find a program of the festivities or so...
So we're now wondering : is it a normal fun-fair without special events or is something interesting taking place ? Any idea where we can have a look at the programm (if there is one ?)

Inexpensive, comfy place for lunchtime tapas, table for one Posted: Sat February 28, 2009 03:15 AM UTC
Hi,
Will be traveling to Sevilla for a day and after touring the Cathedral and Alcazar, would like a place to sit down and enjoy some tapas. I have seen several recommendations around Santa Cruz, but most seem quite touristy and crowded. Don't want to stand at the bar. If you know of a nice place tucked away in the Santa Cruz area, would appreciate it. If not, I have read that there are some nice places in Triana, and would appreciate any suggestions. Also, would need to know how I would get there (bus?). Which bus, where would I catch the bus, and how much would it cost? Lots of questions, I know!
Thanks for your suggestions,
Jeana
