If I'm not booked with a tour or tour package,
what options do I have when I arrive to get myself from the airport to a hotel that's about 20 km away?

I know there are taxi's but how much are they and what is their cost usually?

Thank you so much in advance to take the time to help me..

Varadero Cuban travel minus the resort
Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 04:19 AM UTC
My 18 year old daughter and I want to explore Cuba during the last week of February. We're not keen on limiting ourselves to a resort and wondered if it's possible (or advisable) to stay in B&B's as we go. I imagine it would be less expensive than an all inclusive (we're not big drinkers). We'd like to see Havana as well as the town at Varadero and any other places of interest in that area.
Would the fact that neither of us speaks Spanish make this too challenging? Also, how is the food outside the resorts?

Varadero Need help with transport from Havana Airport to Varadero
Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 06:23 AM UTC
Hi all,
I will be arriving in Havana in a week (Saturday) and going to Varadero.... but don't yet know how to get there. I have heard of Viazul but their schedule and pick-up points - I am not so sure of, and also whether their buses actually go to and from the Havana airport. So that's my dilema.
I arrive Sat. afternoon (3'30 pm) and didn't really want to rely on taxis to go to Varadero.
Can anyone help??
It would be very much appreciated.
THANKS!

Varadero bungalows at Barcelo Solymar
Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 06:43 PM UTC
We're looking at going to the Barcelo Solymar in March. But the price seems to be the same whether we stay in the hotel or a bungalow. What is different about the bungalows? are they better for noise and cleanliness? Also, how many people stay in one bungalow? if it's 2 couples going together would we all be booked in the same bungalow.
Thanks!!

Varadero Wheelchair-Accesisble Resort in Cuba
Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 06:21 PM UTC
A small group of us are thinking of going to Cuba or the Dominican Republic in mid-February for a week. We are looking 3 or 4 star, reasonably-priced, all-inclusive and wheelchair-accessible resort. I have a manual wheelchair.

By wheelchair-accessible, I mean one with a room that has a bathroom door is at least 24 inches wide, grab bars beside the toilet and shower and no stairs to most of the amenities. The room must be able to accommodate 3-4 people.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Varadero lost and found
Posted: Wed December 26, 2007 12:33 AM UTC
I forgot two boxes of cigars on my departure from Varadero. The hotel manager found them but says that cigars are not allowed to be sent by regular post. Is it true? If yes, how can they be brought to Toronto, Canada? Would anyone who come back to Toronto be willing to bring them to Canada?. Thanks for any info.

Varadero anyone going to Iberostar Playa Alameda Veradero soon?
Posted: Mon November 12, 2007 11:38 PM UTC
Hello. I just returned from a 7 day vacation in Cuba. We stayed at the Iberostar Playa Alameda resort in Veradero. My husband and I befriended a local Cuban lady who works at the hotel. Her story is amazing and heart-warming and I would love to send her a small package so if you are travelling to this hotel any time soon, please contact me if you can spare some extra room in your luggage. She speaks English well and won't be hard to find since her desk is located in the main lobby. TIA nino905@hotmail.com
