Can anyone gimme some advice on places to stay and transport going to Rincon de la Vieja?
For example, is Liberia a good place to base yourself in? how long does it take to get to Rincon from Liberia? how do I go about arranging transport or tours? etc.
Does any one know the status of Club Hotel Talolinga? Has it been completed? Please give me any information you have on this. It's supposed to be located in San Jose, Costa Rica--Playa Flamingo.
I'm staying at Tilawa resort Oct 15th-21st. I know its rainy season & yes I'm there to kiteboard and my timing isn't so good. I'm trying to figure out the best places to wander from there especially on windless days. Fishing(fresh or salt water), surfing (west coast), + other great ideas really appreciated. I'll have a rental car. Its my 1st time in CR
Also recommendations on the best weather sites for checking wind/weather conditions for Arenal just prior to my departure.
I'll be in Tamarindo in December and need to be near some family members that have already booked their stay at the Cala Luna. Are there any reasonable B&Bs, canbanas or even camp sites in the area close by? I really would like to avoid paying $200.00 per night.
Thanks!
Planning a trip to the Guanacaste area in January 2010. My wife and I (56,62), an adult friend and our college-age daughter & her girlfriend. We would like to get a condo or villa, near a beach for swimming and snorkeling. Some "nightlife" not too far away for the girls would also be good, but the not the big hotel/resort stuff. I should mention that my daughter speaks Spanish and we have been to CR previously (Manuel Antonio, San Jose & Arenal)
I have looked at Playas: Hermosa, Flamingo, del Coco, Ocotal & Tamarindo. Any suggestions as to the "personality" of these different areas would be appreciated/ Thanks.
Hi there and thanks for reading.
I've read the tourism sites online, but am having trouble narrowing down exactly where to go in Guanacaste.
We'll (my gf + me) will be flying into Liberia, renting a car and then driving to the beach to spend about 10 days in late July/early August. Which beach is up in the air.
We don't surf and don't plan to, but would be very interested in snorkeling. From what I've read, Tamarindo is more developed, rowdier (relatively) and more surfing-oriented, so we'll probably stay away from there. Playa Grande has been recommended also, but it seems so close to Tamarindo.
I've been leaning toward Playa Conchal/Brasilito and have found a couple of places to stay. I've gotten recs about Conchal, but it was from tour guides and people who lived there.
For accommodations, we're not looking for luxury. We just want a comfortable, clean and cheap (under $60/night) place to sleep, that's very close, if not on, the beach. It would also be nice to find a place with discounts for the long stay, since we're planning on being on the beach for at least 7 days.
Any suggestions?
Hi,
I will be vacationing in Playa Hermosa Guanacaste this April and am interested in hiring the services of a cook and maid. I am also interested in renting a boat. Can anyone steer me in the right direction.
We are going to Costa Rica next week and staying for the week at Villas Sol. We want to go sport fishing, and maybe dive if there is a resort dive certification. I haven't read anything about diving, so I was just wondering..
I am thinking of moving to Tamarindo in 2009 for at least 6 months and my work require broadband/HS internet. Does anyone know what is the best internet connection available in Tamarindo? Cheers. Bruno
I'm planning on checking out Tamarindo in the next couple of months, and want to take some tours while I'm there. Does anyone know anything about the tour companies in the town? Any recommendations? Anyone heard of CR Paradise? I want to check out nature and have a good time. Let me know if you have any suggestions or can comment on who has the best tours. Thanks.
I am a male college student and I will be in Guanacaste for 6 and a half weeks this summer with plenty of free time to spend on the beach. This will be my second trip to this area, my last trip I was unable to spend much time on the beach. I was wondering about swimwear for guys. Do any of you know what swimwear the locals wear as well as what swimwear is acceptable to tourists>? Im planning and preparing the things I am bringing with me so quick responses are appreciated.
We're going to spend a couple of days in the Arenal/Fortuna area and need an affordable place to stay. I would prefer a small hotel/B&B. Hostel would do as long as there are individual rooms as opposed to dorm style. Our max budget is $40-50 per night for two people.
Since we're not renting a car I would prefer somewhere closer to the site.
Traveling from Liberia's airport to The Sanctuary Resort & Spa, what's the best means of travel to the resort from airport...rent a car or hire a driver? Never been to Costa Rica before. Any help - greatly appreciated.
This weekend begins my stay at the Arenal Lodge. I know it is a bit of a ways from La Fortuna. My question is this, does anyone have any recent experience with the cost of a taxi from the Arenal Lodge to La Fortuna? Also, does anyone know what the taxi fare is from La Fortuna Airport to La Fortuna itself? Thanks to all.

Hello,
We are planning a 7 days vacation to Costa Rica in March 2008. We would like to stay 1 day in San Jose to see the city and then move towards Fortuna, Arenal and Monteverde. We are trying to decide what transportation we should consider: renting a car (we do not speak Spanish and heard both, good and bad things about driving in Costa Rica) or taking a shuttle bus from San Jose to Arenal (I know Interbus and Fantasy Bus have daily shuttle buses).
Any other tips that would enhance our vacation experience in Costa Rica are greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your help!
Monica
Hi
My husband and I are going to be travelling to CR end of Jan08. For the Areanal area we choose the 'Arenal Observatory Lodge' as our base! Can anyone, who has recently stayed there, let me know what they thought of it. Also, is it very out of the way and far from the surrounding 'towns' and things to do? We were thinking of staying at the Tobacon, but I thought that's a bit too 'Manicured' to choose as a place to stay in CR.
I will welcome any comments.
Thanks,
J

I am arriving in Costa Rica on Saturday to the Liberia International Airport. I am staying in Tamarindo. Has anyone taken the public bus? Is it easy to get where you need to go or should I rent a car?
I am staying at the Tamarindo Diria and I can't figure out how close a bus stop is.
We are spending two weeks in Costa Rica over Christmas/New Years. We are flying in/out of Liberia. The first week of our vacation we are spending traveling around, including to the Arenal area. We have reserved a 4WD vehicle for that part of the trip, and are wondering if we should keep it to go to Nosara (where we are spending week 2), or just hire a car to get us there and back to Liberia. If we are spending the week in Nosara, do we need a car to get around? Are there any areas of interest close by that require us to drive?
Looking for feedback on Casa Palombia in Playa Flamingo, as well as info on Playa Flamingo in general.
Casa Palombia online pictures look great, but I've read that the house isn't maintained very well. If anyone has insight on the house or area (pros/cons), I'd be grateful!
I understand that Playa Flamingo is a smaller town, although there is now much construction. Is it still a nice place to vacation?
