Birmingham travelling to pakistan/azad kashmir - looking for company
Posted: Tue December 25, 2007 01:20 PM UTC
Hello All,

I want to go to North Pakistan + Azad Kashmir between last week of Dec & end of Jan 2008. If anybody else is going alone like me, we can go together and can have a nice time.

My main stay will be in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir) in my home town but I am planning to explore North of Pakistan ... Muree, Kaghan, Naran, Saiful Malook, Shogran.

I am flexible and can change the dates/places to visit if my companion wants to see different places.

Please get back soon, I want to fly asap before my holidays run out. I am flying from Birmingham to Islamabad .. again, can arrange it so that it suits both of us ...
Thanks

Birmingham Pubs/bars/clubs - 'off the beaten track', please...
Posted: Sun August 19, 2007 04:20 PM UTC
Hello, I'm looking for suggestions about good pubs/clubs/bars in B'ham. Now, my idea of good is not a huge venue, non-commercial, non-chain, with preferably Indie music (no House, Rave, Trance etc.). As far as pubs go, I'm NOT looking for a traditional English pub; I prefer somewhere with unusual decor (maybe some black and white photos on the walls, that kind of thing), somewhere more artistic and alternative. Live bands, jazz sessions welcome. Thanks, if anyone can help! :)

Birmingham Birmingham airport to Hampstead ( North of London)
Posted: Wed July 25, 2007 03:25 PM UTC
Hi all ,
I will be arriving into birmingham in the next few days and have to goto Hampstead - North London. I checked online car rentals and auto transmission cars even for a 2 day rental are costing about 150 pounds which is quite a lot ( canadian licence holders cant drive manual transmission). I have two 30kg bags and a big handbag so lugging them off to a train station would be difficult.

Are there any point to point vans which run from the birmingham airport to hampstead. Something like the blue vans in toronto and most US big cities. Any suggestions on how to get to north of london would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Birmingham Swimming and samba - need help finding both!!
Posted: Thu May 10, 2007 02:53 PM UTC
Me again - I've now been in Brum for two months and have been trying in vain to find swimming pools and samba dance classes.

First, swimming - I would like to go every evening but the closest pool to my Edgbaston flat seems to be Harborne and that is quite a walk - I already have a 45 minute walk back from Moor Street Station every evening and don't fancy walking to Harborne and back as well!! Anyone know of any pools that I can reach between Moor Street station and Edgbaston (near the reservoir) Any without going too far out of my way?? (I don't drive). I asked at tourist information and they said there were no pools near the city centre, which seems wierd...

Also, I have found lots of salsa dance classes but no samba, and I want to learn samba (dancing not percussion). I am a complete beginner, can anyone help??

Thanks

Birmingham Best area to live in B/ham
Posted: Wed January 31, 2007 02:59 PM UTC
Hi, I'll be moving to Birmingham from Manchester in March, and am about to start looking at flats. I don't know the area well at all, but I'll be working in Edgbaston - is this a good place to look for a flat to rent, or should I stick to the city centre? The flat needs to be big enough for myself, my boyfriend, a double bass and a huge record collection! We can pay up to around £600 pcm but would prefer to pay between 500-525. Any ideas for decent places to look around this price bracket?

Also, I know there is lots of nightlife in Birmingham but is this all dance/chart oriented and dressy or is there anything a bit more boho?

Any advice much appreciated

Please help me to determine basic prices, such as:

- accommodation (shared flat)
- electricity, water
- internet
- telephone (mobile)
- food
- drinks
- transport from the Stansted Airport

Is there anything else I have to bear in mind in terms of costs?

Thank you very much in advance!

Birmingham New Year's Eve`
Posted: Sat December 30, 2006 08:58 PM UTC
Is there a celebration on New Years eve in Birmingham this year? I'm told that there is one at Centenary Square every year, but I can find no mention on any website.
Has it moved?
Or is Birmingham not having a community one this year?
