10 days on the Island ... Recommendations? Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 01:55 AM UTC
We are visting Barbados for the first time in December. We have a hotel on the West side of the island and are looking for suggestions for 1) great beaches to visit, secluded or not (any topless?) 2)Fine dining, love great food and wine (also love to go where the locals go)and 3)Night life, we love to go dancing but we are not in our 20's (or 30's for that matter). We have 10 days booked for some sun and fun and want to make the most of it!! What else should we do .. we are not the orgainized tour types.

Remaining validity of passport for entry to Barbados Posted: Mon October 20, 2008 02:04 PM UTC
My wife and I are planning to go to Barbados in Dec and January. Her (Russian) passport expires in April and is not so easy to renew quickly. We would have a return ticket on arrival.
The following places say this is OK:
UK fco site, numerous websites, barbados tourism office, barbados high commission (by phone)
The following places say min 6 months validity required;
numerous websites, virgin airlines, barbados foreign ministry website
By e-mail, the London barbados high commission said that 'ideally' 6 months is required.
So the questions are;
1. would virgin let us on the plane
2. would barbados immigration let us in for up to 28 days as is permitted to Russians without a visa. What does ' ideally' mean?
It looks that we will need to renew the passport to avoid risks to our holiday.

Accomodation for singles Posted: Thu October 9, 2008 10:37 PM UTC
I am a 58 years old widower and I have been trying to find a holiday in Barbados especially in the north near Speighstown. But finding a hotel with a single room is almost impossible. Can anyone advise me how to find single accomodation, preferably a hotel with a swimming pool and near the beach.

Barbados questions Posted: Tue September 16, 2008 01:34 AM UTC
We are leaving for Barbados next week. What is the best way to call the US from Barbados (Cheapest way that is)? My cell phone will not work over there. Also, what is the cheapest way from the airport to Bridgetown/St. Lawrence Gap area?
What is the exchange rate with US? Will they take US dollars?
Has anyone heard how the weather is supposed to be 9/23 - 10/1
I have heard no hurricaine problems in that area.
Thanks :)

Where to Stay at Holidays Posted: Thu March 6, 2008 11:29 AM UTC
We are thinking of travelling to Barbados for Christmas 2008, but see that the rates of most places double. We are looking for nice accommodations that are no more than $350 per night during that time of year. Any suggestions appreciated.

Shall I visit Barbados this summer? Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 01:26 PM UTC
Hello,
I have always wanted to visit the carribean and never been! Barbados has stood out as being beautiful, relaxing and well worth going to.
I have thought about visiting there this summer 08, from the UK for 2 weeks. I have found some reasonable flights and looking into getting a villa, apartment to stay in separately!
Just a few questions:
Whats the weather going to be like? Is it too risky going in August?
Is it very expensive?
Are there lots of things to do?
Also, if anyone knows of any villas/apartments for rent it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

best guess, how far is it?......................... Posted: Mon October 29, 2007 11:30 PM UTC
ok, your best guess, "How far of a walk is it from the Allamanda Beach Hotel south of Bridgeport to the cruise ship port building in Bridgeport?" Walking for me is not a problem. I have 2 feet that work along with the rest of the body being that I just lost 20 pounds. Anyone? Anyone?
Having google mapped it, it looks really close to me.

taxi hire for the day Posted: Thu October 25, 2007 01:41 PM UTC
Hope someone can help me out here. Cruising the Caribbean in Jan and have a frim idea of which places of interest I want to visit in Barbados. However none of the organised trips either arranged by the cruise line or agencies in Barbados meet my needs. So the query is would I be able to hire a taxi once off the liner, specify where I want to go, agree a price and expect the driver to either wait for me at each destination or pick up at a specified time (paying at the end of the day,of course !!) ??? More to the point, how much would this cost approximately, assuming 6 hours or thereabouts? All advice gratefully received. Thanks, in anticipation. Paul

Weather Conditions Posted: Mon October 15, 2007 10:04 AM UTC
Hi
I'm booked to visit Barbados on 21st November for 2 weeks. I have been keeping an eye on the weather reports lately and they look dreadful, thunderstorms and rain etc. This seems to have been the over-riding pattern now for a few weeks? How bad exactly is the weather at the moment and is there any news/forecast of it improving in the near future? I'm thinking of rescheduling to next year.
Thanks for any help/advice. Sorry to ask about the weather, I know nothing can be guaranteed! I just wanted the general opinion of anyone who is a local.
