| Reykjavík | cheep accomodation Posted: Tue October 3, 2006 05:29 AM UTC
We are 2 students from Slovenia and we are coming to Reykjavik in 19. december for 5-month study of earth scince. We should get our own appartment in the beginning of January, and now we are in trouble, because we already come on 18.december:(. We are looking for some nice person who would let us (for payment) stay over for these couple of days.
We know that it is very unusual time (christmas and new year) but we really don`t know what else to do. Can anyone give us some information? Thank you |

I can't wait to fly 20+ hours to watch BrazilianGirls, Gojira and the likes do their thing way up there. Anyone here going from Malaysia or S'pore? Don't mind some company for the long flight at least.

| Reykjavík | Travelling outside of Reykjavik in December Posted: Wed September 6, 2006 10:12 PM UTC
I will have a little extra time and money this December to go travelling for a week or two. I'm eyeing Iceland for this trip. I fully realize that my amount of travel outside of Reykjavik will be restricted due to off-season bus schedules. This isn't necessarily bad, I'm sure I could happily spenf my time in the city. BUT, where can I expect to be able to travel to (with out paying exuberent prices or taking 20 hrs to get to) in the middle of December?
Thanks, Matt T. |

Is early october a good time to visit Iceland? I really can't travel in summer. I know by then it's starting to get a little colder and the days are getting shorter, but other than that is it okay?

| Reykjavík | need tips - living there for a year Posted: Tue August 15, 2006 06:01 AM UTC
I am going to be spending the next year (sept-may) in Reykjavik, and I'm wondering what life is really like there once the tourist part is over. I am about 20 years old and going to be studying in English at the University of Iceland and living in the international dorm. I don't know anyone that will be there with me, so I need tips to meet some people..hopefully Icelanders! I don't speak the language, but I'll at least be starting. My budget per semester is pretty small--just enough to show the government I can afford to live there on a residence visa. Hopefully $1000usd/mo or less is enough, even if I want to go out and do things? I might be overly optimistic but surely I'll learn how to keep costs down more than the average tourist. I also want to travel and see my friends in Prague (yet another reason to save as they'll be the only familiar people I'll see for a year) but I don't know if airfare is as cheap as in the rest of europe? Any info at all would help me out a lot, as I hardly know what to expect. A few people have damped my spirits about what it will be like living there, not necessarily because they know--but because it is an odd choice and I guess doesn't appeal to everyone. Hopefully it will not feel too small and still feel very European. It seems like such a creative city with many young people so I am optimistic I can avoid restlessness. Anyway, I bet have a wonderful time...please leave me tips!

Hello you all,
I am planning a trip to Iceland next year, hopefully can afford staying there for 1,5 weeks. Just curious whether you could suggest any places out of Reykjavik? I really want to try that snow mobile thing, have you any idea where it is possible to rent one? Thank you Gabriella |

| Reykjavík | Guesthouse Eric the Red in Reykjavik - opinions please Posted: Thu June 22, 2006 06:22 PM UTC
Hei! We are travelling to Reykjavik in October for the Icelandic Airwaves '06 (I may get to play!) and are looking into hotel accomodations. We don't have a lot of money, so this is an issue.
Guesthouse Eric the Red looks reasonable, nice and we really would prefer the WC in the room, which this has. Does any one have any feedback on the facility, either good or bad? Your opinions would be much appreciated! Also, if there are other places you could suggest to stay at and any details would be greatly appreciated, as well. Thanx in advance! Bambi Jackson New Mexico, USA P.S. Sorry if this is the second time for you to see this. I originally posted to the Iceland forum, and thought perhaps it would be best posted on the Reykjavik forum. |

| Reykjavík | facilities at Blue Lagoon Posted: Thu June 15, 2006 02:02 PM UTC
We are arriving early in the AM at Reykjavik and have until about 5pm to kill before our horse tour picks us up at the airport. We figure to leave the bags at the airport. Are there good, big lockers for this? Then we want to relax at the Blue Lagoon for the day and try to nap. Are there restaurants (cafe style not too expensive) and changing facilities? what about showers? anything else at the lagoon to kill time than soaking?

| Reykjavík | Worth staying outside of Reykjavik? Posted: Wed May 17, 2006 11:13 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip for October and wanted to spend several days in and touring around Reykjavik and do at least two days elsewhere. I'm also thinking of doing a package where you buy the hotel and the airfare. Which is better: returning to Reykjavik each night so I can get the best deal or staying overnight in the other cities?
Thanks! |

| Reykjavík | getting from Kef Airport to the Blue Lagoon Posted: Mon April 10, 2006 02:25 PM UTC
We want to go to the Blue Lagoon from the airport as soon as we arrive, on our way to Reykjavik.
Is this possible by local buses? Will they take our suitcases? If not is the only alternative a taxi - wil this be very expensive? Also will there be somewhere to leave our suitcases at the lagoon? thanks! |

| Reykjavík | Aurora Trip in December Posted: Fri April 7, 2006 05:42 PM UTC
Hello all,
My wife and I are thinking about taking a trip to Iceland in December this year. This is really instigated by me wanting to get a good view of the aurora. I'm wondering about a couple of things: 1) What's the weather likely to be like at that time of year? 2) Is there much 'going on' in Reykjavik at that time of year? There's also additional stuff like recommended affordable accomodation. Any comments would be appreciated. Regards. |

| Reykjavík | Iceland questions. Posted: Sun February 12, 2006 04:52 PM UTC
I have always had a strange fascination with Iceland and their culture. I hope to one day go. I have some questions though..1)I know theres a logical reason but, why if there are so few trees in iceland, Can't they just plant more? I read that many trees were there years ago but the early icelanders used all them for the wood. 2)Do most icelanders know each other? This is and odd question I know but I live in a town in Georgia (USA), of about 100,000 people and it seems like I know everyone! I looked at some pics of nightclubs in Rk. and noticed that you have the most beautifulwomen I have ever seen. I am very interested in iceland and Nordic/Viking heritage. If any one wants to tell me any info, please do. I'm even interested in the "boring" stuff!

| Reykjavík | 3 Night Holiday Travel to Reykjavik in begin of Jan? help pls?? Posted: Fri December 30, 2005 11:53 AM UTC
Hi there, pls could someone offr us advise about taking a 3night package holiday with "Icelandair Holidays" on either 5Jan or end of Jan.
We are really excited about going to see the wonderful sights like Geysir & the waterfalls + national Park- but are worried that the weather in early Jan will be overcast & rainy with only 2 hrs of daylight- therefore the 8 hr sightseeing tour we are booking will be wasted as eveything will be in darkness! pls could someone offr advise about how much daylight there REALLY is at this time of year & if it's possible to do sightseeing to the famous sights of Iceland? we are not worried about the cold temperatures....only the rain & darkness :( maybe is it better to go in the summertime? many thanks for you help |
