St. Thomas Hotel for one night
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 12:42 PM UTC
Hi!

We will be on St. Thomas for one night in November on our way from New York City to the British Virgin Islands. As our plane from NYC will arrive in the afternoon and as we don't want to risk missing the last ferry to the BVI we want to spend a night in a hotel in St. Thomas.

I have checked hotels and B&Bs but I am not sure which location to pick. Is Charlotte Amalie nice? Or would it be wiser to stay in a place near Red Hook ferry landing, e.g. Secret Harbour Beach Resort. We will rely on public transportation and taxis.

Can anybody help me decide please?
Thanks a million!

St. Thomas good night life
Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 04:36 PM UTC
Hi, I am going to be staying at the Wyndam Resort (October) and have heard that there is a small bar just up the road. I was wondering if this hotel is away from the good party spots. I am in my late 30's and still like to party and see the bikini's. Im looking for a very casual good nightlife.

Charlotte Amalie Long sleeves needed at night?

Obviously, it's easy to find temperatures, but please tell me if you can, how cool does it get in the evening? Do you put on something with long sleeves? Getting excited, eleven days 'til we go! Mimi

St. Thomas Hotel Advise
Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 09:02 AM UTC
Hi all,

does anybody here have advise on a good and reasonable priced hotel somewhere near the Airport or the Port at Charlotte Amalie? We will just stay there for one night in order to continue our trip to the BVI the next morning. The trip will be in early November.

I have looked at VT's hotel tips for St. Thomas before. Unfortunately there aren't many recommendations. As I expect that there are more people here who are too lazy to build pages (like me ;) I assume more people have visited the USVI?

Another question is what we could do around the area considering we land at STT in the afternoon and leave the next morning. We won't have a rental car so we have to rely on public transport and/or taxis. Is there anything we shouldn't miss?

Thanks a lot in advance for your replies.

St. Thomas From the airport to the ferry ...
Posted: Mon January 14, 2008 04:49 PM UTC
Hiya!

I have been checking timetables all day and I can't seem to find an answer to my question. Maybe somebody here can help?

My question: In my planned itinerary we would be arriving on a flight from Newark to St. Thomas (STT) at 14:45. The last ferry to the BVI leaves from Charlotte Amalie at 16:30. There's a later ferry from Red Hook leaving at 17:30. Does any of you know whether it will be possible for us to catch one of these ferries? We won't have a rental car on the USVI, so we have to rely on taxi/busses.

Thanks a million in advance for your help!

St. Thomas 4 nights and 5 days - first anniversary
Posted: Thu December 27, 2007 04:32 PM UTC
Hi guys,

Would like some feedback on how best to spend time in St Thomas,St Johns & St Croix. We are planning a trip in Feb for our first anniversary. Is it peak or off-peak season? Heard Marriot n Wyndham are good. How far are they from the beach?
Looking for something romantic but would also want to do something adventurous during the day.Like the top 10 things to-do list.

Do they have island hopping ferry services? My husband and I are not into swimming. Is it even worth the trip? What other activities do you think we might enjoy.

And do you know any travel agents who might cut out a good deal for us? Waiting for some great responses.
Thanks

Saint Thomas Private Villa Rentals: Safe Areas? Noisy Areas? Bad Areas?
Posted: Thu December 13, 2007 04:31 AM UTC
My DH & I are looking to rent a private villa on St. Thomas in Jan '08. Questions: what do we need to ask about or be aware of when picking a rental? Are there areas that aren't particularly safe for tourists to stay? Better areas of the island to look for a place? Bad areas to stay away from, rental-wise? Have you heard anything about the villa, El Sol (on Solberg)? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

St. Thomas taxi costs in st thomas
Posted: Thu October 25, 2007 02:00 PM UTC
Hope someone can help me in this query. Cruising the Caribbean in Jan and on our stop-off in St thomas there are just a few places I want to visit. Therefore, Is it possible to hire a taxi, tell the driver exactly where I want to go, agree a price and expect him either to wait at each destination or pick up at an agredd time (paying at the end of the day ) ?? More to the point, how much approximately would this cost assuming 3-4 hours.? All advice gratefully received. Thanking you, in anticipation. Paul

St. Thomas St Thomas Airport to ferry to St Croix
Posted: Wed October 24, 2007 05:20 PM UTC
I'm looking to go to St Croix. I'm cheap and the flights are much cheaper to St Thomas (even cheaper to San Juan) than to St Croix from New York City. Can anyone tell me how long it would take/ how difficult/ how expensive it would be to go from the St Thomas airport to the ferry location to go to St Croix. Once I get to St Croix I have a friend to pick me up anywhere on the island. It seems that taking a little puddle jumper plane from island to island would cancel out any savings from flying to St Thomas but a ferry would still save me 100$-ish and I wouldn't mind a nice pleasant boat ride anyway.

thanks,
adam

Charlotte Amalie Shopping off Main waterfront street
Posted: Thu October 4, 2007 07:27 PM UTC
The first time we visited St Thomas - we ate at the "Hard Rock" cafe. We found out it was no longer there two years ago. We always go through the "breezeway" between some stores and shop this are and the other street away from the waterfront. Is this safe?

Thanks

Me and a few girlfriends are planning a trip to st. thomas this summer and I was wondering if anyone had stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay resort, I called them up and they said they had made major changes and I was wondering if this would be a good place to stay.
I also heard that you don't need a passport but I wasn't too sure about that one, does anyone know?

St. Thomas Ferry from San Juan to St. Thomas???
Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 05:29 PM UTC
Does anyone know of a way to get from San Juan to St. Thomas other than plane? I heard something about a ferry but not sure if it is still in service or the cost. How about a day cruise or tourist sail boat or something like that? Maybe one that stops at all the islands and we could get off in St. Thomas. Thanks- Tlturner

St. Thomas How to get from St. Thomas to Nassau, Bahamas (or vice versa)?
Posted: Sun April 29, 2007 12:05 AM UTC
How would I get from St. Thomas to Nassau, Bahamas? I would love to spend 3 or 4 days at St. Thomas (friend's wedding in early November) and Atltantis Resort. How far by plane? Would it be best to go to St. Thomas first then Nassau or the other way around? Any travel agency that would be able to help accomodate my trip? Any tips or advice regarding my question or comment on any of my questions or destination would help. Thanks in advance.

St. Thomas St Thomas Liquor
Posted: Fri November 17, 2006 08:44 PM UTC
The last time I was in St Thomas I brought liquor back in those neat cardboard six-packs and was able to take them on the airplane as carry on luggage. With the new restrictions on carrying on liquids, how can I bring back my liquor purchase. Do the liquor stores on St Thomas provide appropriate cartons that can be used as checked baggage or do they have some other method. It seems the liquor stores must have some method because if the tourists can't take liquor purchases on airplanes then the liquor stores will be out of business.

St. Thomas Hotel Day Pass in St. Thomas?
Posted: Thu October 26, 2006 11:22 PM UTC
Does anyone know of a nice hotel that will issue a day pass? We are in port for just one day with our Disney Cruise. I don't really see any of their excursions that interest me. I have heard a day pass would entitle one to use of the hotel pool, changing and rest rooms and restaurants just for one day, no overnight. Is that a good idea? The pool on the ship is ok, but... Might that be worth it?

St. Thomas Magens Point Resort Opportunity
Posted: Thu June 29, 2006 02:36 PM UTC
I am interested in sharing stories with timeshare owners of Magen's Point Resort in St.Thomas, USVI, an RCI resort property. How can I get a list of owners and their e-mail addresses? My recent visit May 2006 as well as several other guests afforded us the opportunity to get to know the VI Police Department. Like all resort properties, crime is kept secret from unsuspecting guests. There must be a better way to keep visitors from becoming victims. I think tourist crime needs a web site where crime victims can post their stories. Interestingly guests may not know that on the back of their registration card is a waiver of all liability on the part of resort management for any act of negligence, any event, any time. If you miss it they will be sure to point it out if anything happens during you're stay.
