Caribbean Island - Family Friendly, Snorkeling and Golf? Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 03:17 PM UTC
What is the best Caribbean destination that is family friendly, with good snorkeling and golf? We love St. John, USVI for the access to great snorkeling directly from the beaches, availability of villas for traveling with kids (ages 5 and 7) and their grandparents (ages 75 and 80), but going to St. Thomas for golf is not very convenient. We went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic last year, where the golf and accommodations were great and convenient, but snorkeling was not good (and there was too much seaweed washing up on the beach). Where is the best place for access to all three (family friendly, good snorkeling, good golf)??? Thanks for any suggestions!!!

Anything to watch out for? Posted: Wed September 23, 2009 06:22 AM UTC
Hey I am getting married Oct 3rd and my honeymoon is in St. Thomas. We are staying at the Ritz Carlton and we like to walk a lot, sometimes at night. Are there any places near by that we should be weary of or is it mostly a safe area around there? Thanks

Travel in October? Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 07:58 PM UTC
I know it's hurricane season, but from what I've read it doesn't seem that bad, unless you get unlucky enough to hit a hurricane....any thoughts? Would you go?

Weather in late September? Posted: Sun August 2, 2009 06:27 PM UTC
We are visiting St. John, to snorkel and be beach bums, drive around the island, drink rum in the sun, etc etc, the week of Sept 20 -27. Does any one have any ideas about what the weather will be like, other than the threat of a hurricane? Any ideas about insects and jellyfish? Have any of you stayed there that time of year? Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cattail

Caribbean cruise ships Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 05:07 PM UTC
These seem boring to us. They stop at the same main port at every island and we see the same dumpy towns and T shirt shops at every stop. Has anyone done any interesting cruising on a private yacht that stops at all the neat places the cruise ships do not? We are considering a private sailing catamaran for adventure and fun and would love to hear from anyone that has also done this.

Getting on Magan's Bay St Thomas in June at 9:30am. What do we do afterwards? Posted: Mon March 16, 2009 10:23 PM UTC
We are getting married on Magan's Bay at 9:30am. What are some good things to do afterwards? Pictures may take an hour or so. I can't find any place for "BRUNCH" on a weekday. Suggestions? Or should we all do dinner and dancing at a restaurant/bar that night?

Should we stay in Saint John or Saint Thomas? Posted: Fri January 23, 2009 04:09 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are planning to visit the US Virgin Islands this Spring Break, from Mar. 12 to Mar. 18, 2009. We cannot decide how long we should stay in Saint Thomas and Saint John. Should we stay few nights in Saint Croix as well? Which island is the most expensive? How can we save money? Please give us some ideas. We really appreciate your advice.
So many thanks from Houston.

questions about Car rentals in St. Thomas and St. John Posted: Sat December 27, 2008 08:09 PM UTC
Hi, I will be visiting STT and STJ from Jan 15 to Jan 18. I want to rent a car. I was looking around the tips on VT. It seems that it is cheaper to rent a car in STT and take car ferry to STJ, right? Is it OK to rent a regular car or it is better to rent a jeep? Does Compact SUV work good in STJ?

Expensive? Posted: Fri September 26, 2008 07:21 AM UTC
Is St. John expensive? I know, I asked the stupid question. Is food and money you pay for other attractions pricey? Or would you say it is average for a vacation destination? I know it depends on your budget, but any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Hotel for one night Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 01:42 PM UTC
Hi!
We will be on St. Thomas for one night in November on our way from New York City to the British Virgin Islands. As our plane from NYC will arrive in the afternoon and as we don't want to risk missing the last ferry to the BVI we want to spend a night in a hotel in St. Thomas.
I have checked hotels and B&Bs but I am not sure which location to pick. Is Charlotte Amalie nice? Or would it be wiser to stay in a place near Red Hook ferry landing, e.g. Secret Harbour Beach Resort. We will rely on public transportation and taxis.
Can anybody help me decide please?
Thanks a million!

Villas Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 01:39 PM UTC
Any information on Chateau La Tete, Mystic Ridge, Great Turtle, or Balance? We're thinking of trying St. John's, although we're huge fans of Virgin Gorda. Priorities: Cleanliness, privacy, space, good pool, safe...Any opinion on the bugs in higher elevations?
Thanks.

Anyone else have Villa Mollo problems? Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 10:27 PM UTC
We had to reschedule with all of six days notice when we were informed that he'd overbooked! And that for Easter Week, 2008! Fortunately, we were able to find another villa due to a cancellation. Ask about San Costanzo villa which overlooks Fish Bay near Cruz Bay! It cost us, and we only got six (not seven) days . . . but St. John is worth it! This was my first poor experience with a VRBO rental, but it has scared me a bit.

good night life Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 05:36 PM UTC
Hi, I am going to be staying at the Wyndam Resort (October) and have heard that there is a small bar just up the road. I was wondering if this hotel is away from the good party spots. I am in my late 30's and still like to party and see the bikini's. Im looking for a very casual good nightlife.

Looking to see if a certain butterfly art shop still exists in Charlotte Amalie or near Blue Beards Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 11:50 PM UTC
Back in 1979, I visited and was absolutely astounded by a shop that had large encased glass framed pieces of art, filled with radiant butterflies, that appeared to have been stirred up, and/or were flying in a sort of order, up and swirling, and just so beautiful. I want to purchase one of these for my wife, who is going through her third bout with breast cancer....butterflies to her have connective meaning, and I am away from her as she goes through this battle, because of my job. The butterflies are a true glimer of hope for her. Does anyone know if the particular shop still exists, and the name of the shop? thank you, Dave

Hotel Advise Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 10:02 AM UTC
Hi all,
does anybody here have advise on a good and reasonable priced hotel somewhere near the Airport or the Port at Charlotte Amalie? We will just stay there for one night in order to continue our trip to the BVI the next morning. The trip will be in early November.
I have looked at VT's hotel tips for St. Thomas before. Unfortunately there aren't many recommendations. As I expect that there are more people here who are too lazy to build pages (like me ;) I assume more people have visited the USVI?
Another question is what we could do around the area considering we land at STT in the afternoon and leave the next morning. We won't have a rental car so we have to rely on public transport and/or taxis. Is there anything we shouldn't miss?
Thanks a lot in advance for your replies.

Fishing information from shore, any help much appreciated. Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 06:15 PM UTC
My wife and I wil be visiting the BEAUTIFUL island of ST CROIX in April. I am wondering if anyone has any "SHORE" fishing info that would help me. Such as type of fish, bait, spots to fish. We are staying at The Palms at Pelican Cove near Christiansted and will be renting a car. I already know I donot need a licence as I will be just catching and releasing the fish. Thanks so much for your help, Fishinguy.
