Birr How do I get to Birr by Rail?

Hello,
I will be in Ireland for a few days in July and wanted to visit Birr Castle with my girlfriend and was wondering how to get to Birr without using a car or bus. Will it be possible by using the Rail? Thanks again

is it easier to train to there or bus?
i am too freaked to drive
what is the approxiamate travel time?

is shannon closer to fly into to reach her?
