BLUE WONDER BRIDGE Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 06:46 PM UTC
From the railway station we will walk to the christmas market at Altmarkt then onwards heading towards the river. We would like eventually to go across the Blue Wonder Bridge but I see this is to the east of the centre and seems quite a distance to walk so could anyone tell me how to get there by public transport. Names of stops and tram numbers would be useful or can we use the metro? If its not as far as I think and we would miss the sights by not walking then its ok we will walk. Anyone know the distance from Altmarkt? Thankyou.

Dresden left luggage Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 11:40 AM UTC
Hi all,
I'm stopping for a day in early December in dresden on my way to Prague and was wondering if the train station (HBF) has a left luggage room. If so, is it safe?
Finally, is it far to get to the xmas markets (next to Frauenkirche) from the train station?
Thanks!

DRESDEN DAY TRIP Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 11:31 AM UTC
We will be visiting Dresden on a day trip from Prague at the end of November. We will be arriving by train. What is the best method of getting into the centre from the railway station? We don't mind walking unless its absolutely miles but we would rather use public transport rather than taxis if we can't walk, so which buses/trams do we want? We will have about 5 hours in Dresden so what should we see? Not too bothered about churches etc. but would like to see some culture and monuments. Just a general tour round really. Is it nice on the riverbank? Also we want a few beers and a meal so any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

Travel to Leipzig Posted: Sat August 1, 2009 11:50 AM UTC
Hi,
We need to travel to Leipzig in late September because my daughter is studying there. We will have to take far more luggage than we can get on the plane so are thinking of going by train or coach or ferry - or a combination of these where we can take enough luggage for her to live there. Does anyone haqve a better idea? Can anyone help with a sensible route that is not going to cost the earth?
Thanks

Day trips from Dresden - What to see? Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 10:54 PM UTC
The rail trip from Dresden is short enough to make our visits to Meissen roundtrip day trips only. Other than the porcelain factory, what are the sehenswuerdigkeiten? What is your advice regarding the Elbe trip via ship?

Train in Leipzig Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 05:32 AM UTC
My husband and I will travelling by train in Germany in September and before I make some seat reservations I need some advice.
We are travelling from Berlin to Frankfurt and were planning on leaving on the 6.52am train from Berlin HBF arriving in Frankfurt at Frankfurt Main at 11.35. This train has a 6 minute stop and change of train at Leipzig. Can anyone tell me if this also means a change of platforms or would it be safer to take an earlier train which goes direct to Frankfurt or the next one which goes via Hanover. We will have 2 pieces of luggage with us and we speak no German. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Berlin /Schoenefeld-Dresden-Halle Posted: Sun January 25, 2009 10:22 PM UTC
Myslef and my wife(both in our 60's) are arriving in Berlin Feb 24th we arrive at Berlin/Scheonfeld at about 3.30pm. I have a few questions regarding where we should go from there. We have to be in Halle by Thursday 26th about 3pm and had hoped that between the 24th &26th we could visit Dresden. I am finding the train timetable a bit confusing. Could someone tell me is there a direct train from Scheonfeld to Dresden or will we have to get off and board another train en route ? What time train would we make if we fly in at 3.30pm and how much would this train cost. Would anyone have any recommendations for a good value hotel in Dresden where we would dtay for 2 nights and also for us to reach Halle on the 26th by about 3pm is there a train leaving Dresden that would get us there and also how much would it cost. We are between minds if we should go to Dresden at all is there much in the line of sightseeing etc or should we maybe just head straight for Halle 2 days early. or maybe someone might have another idea of where we could spend our time prior to going to Halle. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not expensive food-place in Dresden with traditional German food Posted: Wed December 24, 2008 12:26 PM UTC
Hello!
I'm going to Dresden in January, so could you help me with some food-places there?
Could you advice me good but not expensive cafe, bar or restaurant in Dresden with traditional German food. I mean pork, sausages, beer etc.?
Somewhere in the city-centre or near the train station?
How much could it cost to have average dinner there?
Thank you!

Kaestner Museum? Posted: Sun August 31, 2008 05:26 PM UTC
Has anyone been to the Erich Kästner Museum? I like him very much, but there is so much to see in Dresden, that we have to cut down our what-to-do list.
I didn't find any tips on the Dresden pages, but maybe someone went there and can tell me about it.
Their website is not the best, they're still promoting a rallye for 9th July.
As always, thank you in advance for any inside information.

Visiting Dreden Posted: Wed August 27, 2008 08:30 AM UTC
Hello, VT members.
I am visiting Germany in March of next year, and would be in Dresden sometime towards the end of the first week of March.
Since this would be our first time to Dresden,I have a few querries.
What would the weather be like at that time of the year.
Regarding accommodation:I have seen a studio apartment, the location of which looks very nice.It is located at an address"Castle Hill 6,01462 Dresden. What little information that I have been able to gather from the web site is that it is 11km from the city center, and the public transport is available.Does anybody know of this area. The website is www.amburgberg.de.
We plan to stay in Dresden for one week.Is that too much.
Please somebody enlighten me on this location.
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

anyone know any inexpensive pensions/hotels in dresden innere aldstadt area? Posted: Sun August 24, 2008 02:18 AM UTC
we're looking for seomthing is inexpensive. 1 star to 2. less than 80 euros per night. I don't care if the bathroom is in the room or out in the hallway. the only thing we care about is that the sleeping quarters are private for only 2 people and that older people (ie-we are in our late 30's) are allowed.

Hello everyone!
I'm going to live in Leipzig next semester and I'm schedule my flights so I wanted to know if anyone could give me some help on the cheaper way to get to Leipzig from Frankfurt or from Berlin. I've heard that from Berlin there are some specials trains that pass on Leipzig and are cheaper. Does anyone know about them? :) And if you do, can you please give me the name of the company so I can check the prices and schedule online?
Thank you very much!
Best Regards,
