Book in advance for November? Posted: Sun February 26, 2006 04:57 AM UTC
Should we worry about booking in advance if we are planning to stay 4 nights in November? Will there be plenty of choices if we just talk to some people at the stalls when we get off the plane? Do they give big discounts on their normal rates if you book upon arrival? Do they work on a bartering system there?
Thanks! Happy Travels!

Easter Island in November Posted: Fri January 13, 2006 12:26 AM UTC
Should we go to Easter Island in November?
Last night we were talking to our travel agent about flights for our RTW trip ... and just found out that our flight from Tahiti to Quito, which was supposed to only stop in Santiago, also makes a brief stop on Easter Island!
So now we are considering adding it as a real stop in our itinerary since the plane is landing there anyways and it is very expensive to get there again in the future. The only drawback is that we are limited to 15 stops on our whole trip, so we would either take Abu Dhabi or Hong Kong off the list of stops. What would you do? :)
Just wondering what it costs to rent a 4WD? We would probably spend 3-7 days there. Is that enough time or will we regret not staying longer? What is the weather like in November? What will a B&B cost per night?
Thanks for any help or advice you can give! :)

Rapa Nui ... February ... Book lodging in advance Posted: Thu October 20, 2005 06:12 AM UTC
I will be on Easter Island the first week of February 2006. I have heard that lodging on EI is plentiful and cheap and that there is no reason to book in advance.
Since I will be there for a full week, I would like to stay in a reasonably 'nice' place - good location, nice bathroom, maybe a bungalo, priced at $50us max(?). This is one of those "once in a lifetime" trips so I really want to stay somewhere "special". I am traveling alone.
Should I be researching lodging now and book ahead or can I just hop off the plane and find something?
Any recommendations?

Problem leaving Easter Island ??? Posted: Thu August 18, 2005 01:00 PM UTC
Hi
I'm preparing my visit to Easter Island as part of an around the world trip.
In the Easter Island section of VT I did read a warning (dated 26.08.2002)about leaving the island with a LanChile flight. It tells there are just a few seats empty on the flights coming from Papeete for passengers at Easter Island. You should go the airport very early to get a seat.
Anybody with the same or different experience ????
Thanks a lot for your reply.

Christmas on Easter Island, book now? Posted: Wed August 17, 2005 07:55 AM UTC
I've read a few posts from other's looking for accommodation, but no one has been looking for Christmas. I've read that there's no need to book in advance for most of the year, but what about Christmas time? We don't want to arrive at the airport and find no place to stay for Christmas.
Looking for not much more then $30US/double. (not per person)
Thanks!

BIG favour Posted: Wed July 27, 2005 03:18 PM UTC
I know this might sound strange but if anyone is going to Easter Island soon, can they please check something for me?
I was at a beach in easter island nearly 2 years ago and i picked up a little coconut seed and put it in my pocket, later on while discovering the isalnd i went inland on my 4x4 buggy and saw Ahu akivi, sculptures facing the ocean but right on top of the island, i loved those. I sat infront of the middle sculpture, about 25 metres away and decided to plant this coconut seed right there. I am a useless gardener so it probably never grew but if you are there can you just see? you never know. If you see it please take a pic for me.
Thanks

Packages Posted: Fri June 3, 2005 05:44 PM UTC
Hey,
Im just wondering, are there packages to Easter Island (from Chile) that you can have a look at online and/or buy in Chile? And if so, how much would it cost. I was thinking of only 2 days on the island and then pegging it back to Santiago.

Dive Schools Posted: Tue May 10, 2005 01:43 PM UTC
I am travelling to Easter Island in Jan 06 and would like to do some diving while I'm there. I think there are two dive schools on the Island. Has anyone used them and can they recommend the best one to go with - also, is the diving worthwhile.

Accommodation on Easter Island Posted: Wed February 23, 2005 03:20 PM UTC
Hi We will stay on Easter Island from 14 till 19 December of this year. Is it necessary to make reservations for a more or less affordable room (in a residencial I think) or is it better to fly to Easter Island and try to get a 'bargain' from one of the locals on the airport ???

Diving Easter Island Posted: Wed January 5, 2005 06:57 PM UTC
I'm planning a two week trip to Chile in April. I was wondering what the diving is like in Easter Island. I have an interest in visiting the island anyway, and if the diving was worth the extra time & money I would go for it. So how is the diving? What kind of life? I'll be solo, so do dive shops always go out? I only found one dive shop: Orca Diving Center. How are they?
Best,
Ben

Cheap Accommodation Posted: Fri July 23, 2004 09:51 PM UTC
Iīve read conflicting things about when high season is for Easter Island. Iīll be there 1-5 August. Can anyone reccommend any cheap accommodation, preferably $10 per person or less. There are two of us, we donīt mind hostels. If $10 pp is unrealistic, then Iīll just have to pay more, so be it, so if you know of anywhere at the cheaper end of the scale thatīs more than that, any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks!

Australia to Easter Island flights Posted: Thu August 12, 2004 12:29 AM UTC
Hi!
Does anyone know of a carrier which flies direct to Easter Island from either Sydney or Melbourne? I checked on Qantas.com & found the destination Easter Island but no schedule & fare. Called the airline up & the lady said Qantas doesn't fly. So, I gather it's a code-share flight. Lan Chile perhaps? Anyone?
Thanks!

How long would you recommend to visit/stay on Easter Island for? I can imagine that once you get there you might not want to leave! It's at the top of my list of places to visit followed by Antartica in close second!
