car rental in rothenburg Posted: Wed October 19, 2005 03:11 PM UTC
hi, i've checked expedia for car rentals in rothenburg and i've found the nearest car rental where i can pick up my car is 18 miles away from rothenburg. this may sound dumb but i've never rented a car abroad let alone drive but i was hoping i could pick up a car right when i step out of one of the gates of rothenburg and drive to dinkelsbuel and nordlingen. how do i get to the car rental, taxi? and the cheapest price in expedia for only a day's rental is $74.00 from 10 am to 6 pm. i find that a little steep for just a few hours use. i read somewhere you can rent a car through expedia at around $165 for a wk. has anyone rented a car in rothenburg? pls advice! If its too complicated i will just stay there a couple of days and take train back to munich. was hoping to stay 3 or 4 days if i could see dinkelsbuel and nordlingen as well. thanks!

To reserve or not to reserve? Posted: Mon October 17, 2005 04:01 PM UTC
i will be going to rothenburg nov.3-6. i have reservations at hotel gotisches haus for 2 of those nights. I want to stay the 3rd night in another hotel just to try something diff bec there are so many nice places to stay there. but am worried i might not find any free rooms and wont have anywhere decent to stay. should i just book now or wait till i'm there so i could see personally the hotel and maybe even choose which room i want? this is a big trip for me so want to stay at the quaintest more fairy tale like place that will really bring me back in time. I'm a hopeless romantic! by the way, will be going with my husband so need a double room. any suggestions? nothing too expensive. if you know of a hotel or B&B like that even in dinkelbuel of norlingen pls let me know! thanks!

2 nights in rothenburg w extra day. what to do? Posted: Sun October 16, 2005 06:25 PM UTC
we'll be going to rothenburg from munich nov 4-6 like i said in another posting. we have a free day nov 3(deducted one day from our london stay, been there 3x anyway)so i was thinking what to do on this day. i have reservations at hotel gotisches haus in rothenburg nov 4-6 so i was thinking of changing it to nov 3-5 so that i arrive in rothenburg first and the free day will be on the sixth.thinking of renting a car and driving to dinkelbuel and norlingen but since they are pretty similar to rothenburg maybe should see something else.since i have to go back to munich maybe i can drive back towards munich and find a nice place to explore and stay the night.what would you guys suggest? heard there are nice castles on the castle road. can check out one of those.any suggestions? although i dont want to drive too far coz my first time in germany and cant speak a word of it so has to be an easy-to-find place. want to drive lesiurely and stop and picnic and enjoy the day that sort of thing.love quaint hotels and b&bs that are old and fairy tale like, nothing modern. also, is there a car i can rent in rothenburg and can i just drop it off at wherever i finally decide to go on my free day?thanks!

Rothenburg nov. 4- 6 ,shops closed? Posted: Sat October 15, 2005 05:19 PM UTC
i am going to rothenburg on nov. 4-6 and i already know i will love the town based on all the comments and photos i've seen here. but i also notice all the tour buses that ply the romanctic road stop their run oct. 31. does that mean there's nothing to see when i'll be there??? actually if everything would still be open i am thinking of adding a day to our stay and just relax, maybe visit dinkelbuehl and nordlingen as they are the nearest. since the hop on-hop off buses wont be around the time i'm there, how can i get to these towns? think biking is too far. is there a bus service or should i rent a car? i've never driven in a foreign country. is it an easy drive? hope i wont have to go on the autoban. i hear they drive like 200 miles an hour! any help would be good. i have to decide soon!

Hotels Posted: Fri October 22, 2004 09:15 AM UTC
Thanks for the responses - we're now wanting hotel suggestions. Has anyone stayed at the hotel Goldenes Lamm on the market square ? Is it any good or would we be better in the Reichskuchenmeister ?
Thanks

Rothenburg In November Posted: Sun October 10, 2004 11:00 AM UTC
We are thinking of a trip to Rothenburg in November but will there still be plenty of museums etc open or will the town tourist season be over until the christmas markets in December ?
Would we be better to wait until December ?

Topplerschlosschen in Rothenburg Posted: Sun August 22, 2004 06:55 PM UTC
Does anyone have any information about Topplerschlosschen in Rothenburg? What little I found it is apparently down a trail from the Castle Garden. How far is the walk and is it worth it?

Accommodation Posted: Mon April 12, 2004 03:28 AM UTC
My wife and I are trying to find accommodation in or around Rothenburg OdT. We will be spending two nights and want to see a little of the town and surrounding area before heading to Munich via the Romantic Road. We believe there are wineries in the region we would be interested in visiting. Any sugestions? We require recommendations for accommodation that is not over the top in price and either in Rothenburg itself or in a B&B style lodge on the outskirts. All help and sugestions, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated.
Many, many thanks in anticipation. Greg
