One night in Caracas Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 08:07 PM UTC
Hey, guys last minute question. I get into Caracas on Saturday. I'd planned to travel on to a smaller city or town but it turns out I only arrive in at 11pm. So I was wondering if anybody knew any cheap places to stay that I could book at the last minute? Or if there were any night buses running that I could get? Any advice would be really useful,
thanks Carly

Places and Safe areas to live in (follow up on my next questions) Posted: Thu July 31, 2008 02:45 PM UTC
Hey
while Craigslist is not that good service for caracas, I get some good offers for accommodation at (am posting in case someone needs that as well)
http://www.compartoapto.com.ve/rooms/
http://www.vivastreet.com.ve/
Now one more question for the locals, though - could you please write which are the safe areas to live in the city (at best for students), and which should definitely be avoided?
cheers

Venezuela September!! Posted: Fri May 23, 2008 08:33 AM UTC
We are a group of two travellers, planning to make a trip to South America from the 10th September 2008 to the 15th January 2009.
We are flying to Venezuela and leaving from Rio de Janeiro. Our stay in the whole of South America will be longer than 90 days, however we will stay in a single country for less than 90 days travelling from one place to the next.
We are concerned that upon entering Venezuela we will not have proof that we will be leaving the country in less than 90 days (our return ticket home is 4 months later).
Should this be a problem?
I would really appreciate an answer

Airport bus, Caracas Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 08:07 AM UTC
Last year I went straight from the airport to Rodovias bus terminal. The airport bus took one hour from the airport to Parque Central. This was before the bridge was finished and it was a Sunday (less traffic I think). Well, how long does the journey with the bus takes now, early in a morning (going from the centre to the airport)?

Budget accommodation in Caracas - Plaza Catedral Hotel Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 08:05 AM UTC
Last time I visited Venezuela I didn’t stay in Caracas, but next time I would like to stay there for a couple of days to see a few museums and take the Teleferico to El Avila. The question is where I should stay? Many areas are considered unsafe in Caracas and I’m travelling alone. Well, I want to stay at a nice budget hotel near the sights. Plaza Catedral Hotel is recommended in Lonely Planet and the good thing is that they have a top-floor restaurant (which means I can stay inside the hotel after dark). Has anyone stayed at that hotel? What is your opinion in that case?
Can anyone recommend another nice budget hotel?

CAR RENTAL Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 12:15 PM UTC
Hi everybody!
We are planning a trip to Venezuela by the end of May and looking for car rentals. All the sites regarding Caracas Airport car hire offices are giving very high price levels- ca 60 USD per day. Does anybody know, are the prices given like "official" exchange rates? I mean, if I try to exchange dollars in "black market", I can get a car with much more price? It can be so, if the price in dollars is not fixed?
Thanks!

Share apartment in Caracas? Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 01:18 AM UTC
Hi!
I want to rent a room in an apartment in Caracas betwwen the end of march until may (or from the end of april until the end of may depending on the prize). I´m checking out websites like compartoapto, porlapuerta and tuinmueble but haven´t found anything interesting yet.
I would like to share an apartment with young (or young-minded) people and if there was internet access that would be great.
I´ve been a lot in latin america and this will be my third time in Caracas, speaks decent castellano and are a nice and outgoing mate.
So, does anyone has any ideas?

In reality, how dangerous is Caracas? Posted: Fri October 12, 2007 02:35 PM UTC
I am an 18 year old American girl. I attend an international school in Norway and have traveled extensively, including to Mexico, Argentina, and Uruguay. I also speak passable Spanish. My boyfriend is Venezuelan and lives in Caracas and I am planning on going home with him for Christmas/New Year's this year. My parents are completely against this. They are certain I will get shot/stabbed/raped at some point in Caracas. They think I will be harassed by security and customs officials at the airport for being an American and for being a woman traveling alone. They are sure I will be a target for crime because I am American/white.
I am wondering how dangerous Caracas really is for an American. I will be with my boyfriend and his Venezuelan family the whole time so I only have to navigate the airport alone. Is it reasonable for me to fight to go to Caracas, or is the danger as severe and real as my parents think?
