Hi. Does anybody please know if there is any budget accomodation in the town of Tabay near Merida? There used to be a hotel named the "Posada Turística Tabay" at the main town square - is it still open? Thanks.

Santa Elena de Uairén Posted: Thu September 17, 2009 01:20 PM UTC
Hi all. We need to get from Caracas to Santa Elena de Uairén while arriving to Caracas airport early afternoon. We do not want to fly due to necessity to pay for tickets using terrible oficial exchange rate when booking and paying ahead.

1. An obvious option seems to be to take one of many night buses to Ciudad Bolivar and switch to a daily bus from there. Does anybody please know the schedule of daily buses from Ciudad Bolivar to Santa Elena de Uairén? The route should be served at least by Turgar Express and San Cristobal bus companies.

2. Another and seemingly easier option would be to take a direct bus from Caracas to Santa Elena de Uairén. Yet, the buses of companies known to me - Expresos Caribe, Expresos los Llanos, Expresos Occidente - seem to leavy too early for us to catch them on the day of our arrival. Does anybody please know if there are any direct buses from Caracas to Santa Elena de Uairén leaving in the evening after 18:00?

Thanks for help.

Hi,

First of all thank you all for replying my question re travel/tour agency you were all very helpful.

Now I have another worry and that is re electricity supply. I was told that the supply there is 110 as oppose to 220 as it is where i leave. The latter seriously worries me as all my chargers especially for my camera are 220 and I was told that the only way I can use it is if i carry some sort of a converter which is meant to be bulky. Is this true? (I really don't understand power supply matters)

Can you please advise as to what / how I should deal with the situation.

Thank you very much

Hi to all,

I will be traveling with friends who have family in Venezuela at the end of the year and all though I will be moving around with them to the different parts of Venezuela for the family visits I would also like to do a trip to the Jungle area. I was told that it would be best/cheaper if I book once I get there, is this true, and would I be able to organise it for a couple of days or does it need time in advance.

Can you please recommend travel agencies that offer such services (2/3 days in the jungle I heard there are camps in which you stay over).

The trip can include some adventure activities such as rafting etc.
Would a visit to Angel's Falls be possible to include in such a trip.

I apologize for my ignorance, I tried googling things to do in Venezuela and there is so much that i got completely confused with what is in which area of the country . Some help would be GREATLY appreciated

Thank you :o)

Hello,

I am a photographer coming for the Maria Lionza pilgrimage around Oct. 12th at Mount Sorte. I have been told I need to get a special photography permit in Caracas in order to photograph. Does anyone know about this or have a website where I could reach officials in Caracas concerning a photography permit for Maria Lionza pilgrimage?

Thanks so much for any information!

Hi, I was just wondering if you did the Angel Falls tour from Ciudad Bolivar and if so could you recommend any tour companies to pre-book with or if its better to just book when you arrive?

Hi!
My question is if there is no problem getting into Venezuela from Brasil through Santa Elena de Uairen???
And more...I have heard that Venezuela is very expensive in case you change your money in official money exchange points, but if you get Venezuelian pesos outside the country or change your money in the black market things work out much much cheaper! Is that right? Any suggestions?? What would be the rate difference - official and black market?

Thank you!

Hey, guys last minute question. I get into Caracas on Saturday. I'd planned to travel on to a smaller city or town but it turns out I only arrive in at 11pm. So I was wondering if anybody knew any cheap places to stay that I could book at the last minute? Or if there were any night buses running that I could get? Any advice would be really useful,
thanks Carly

Howdy Y'All,

I am thinking of visiting Venezuela in August. Is this a bad time to plan a visit? I understand it is the rainy season, but have been told that Venezuela weather systems are more driven by altitude than season/time of year. What sort of weather could I expect in August?

If August is a really bad time I could possibly go in September or October. Which of these is the best time to visit?

I especially want to visit the Angel Falls and have been told these are at their most spectacular in the wet season. When is the best time to go to see them at their best and still be assured of travel to them through the jungles?

Thanks for your help Y'All

Or, are they all bad times to visit?

I am currently looking at some prices for tours for Angel Falls and Merida etc... If the prices are listed in BsF, will the tour operator give you a good exchange rate if you pay in US dollars i.e. will they give a rate similar to the black market or will they just use the official interest rate?

Thanks

I am thinking about traveling to Venezuela for two weeks in early June. Yet, a Venezuelan friend, who lives in the US, told me that political situation and crimes are kind of out of control over there right now and doesn’t recommend me to visit Venezuela. How safe is Venezuela for a lone female traveler? If I travel to Venezuela, I would like to visit Angel Falls, Coro, Parque Nacional Mochima, Rio Caura and etc. I speak Spanish and consider myself an experienced independent traveler. I would appreciate any input you may have. Gracias!

I heard that people are trading 6 Bolivars for 1 dollar now. Is this true? When will Chavez raise the official rate from 2.15 Bs for 1 dollar to a higher rate?

Hi, all!

I've tried to book a hotel in Caracas (and some other places in V-la) and found out that the available prices are pretty high (from 300USD per night on my dates) for online booking. What is the best way of booking accommodation in Venezuela?

Possible variants:
1. Online
2. Calling directly
3. Via travel agencies
4. Trying to search accommodation there

Thanks!
