Motorbike Info Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 06:14 PM UTC
Can anyone recommend a company for renting motorbikes / scooters? Avis, Hertz, and Dollar do not have them. I have yet to check with Europcar and Thrifty but it is unlikely. I contacted a company called Renting Uruguay and their prices were $110 per day, which seems three times too high. They claimed that without a reservation and prepayment nothing will be left on December 16.

Hotel Location Posted: Sun October 4, 2009 12:35 AM UTC
Hello,
I'm planning to go with me and 5 other friends (all aged 20-21) PdE for new year's for about one week.
I wanted to know where would be the best location for us to stay.
We're interested in Nightclubs, Beaches and Casino, so I was thinking maybe somewhere near Conrad? Please send in suggestions! Hotel recomendations are welcome too, but what I really want to know is the ideal location.
Thank you!

Hotel Accomodation Posted: Sun September 13, 2009 06:58 PM UTC
Hi,
Traveling to Punta with another couple the last 2 weeks in January. Would appreciate help with a hotel recommendation:
1) Looking for a 4 / 5 star hotel that is on the beach (or extremely close)
2) Ideally hotel would also be in an area with nightlife and restaurants
3) Ideally hotel would also have a nice pool
With my research to date I have only found the Conrad and Mantra as options and it appears the Conrad is sold out when we will be in town and Mantra may be a bit quieter and further removed from city center than desired.
Any recommendations . . . willing to pay up to $500 USD a night.
Thanks, Paul

Questions about dates, flights Posted: Thu July 30, 2009 12:53 AM UTC
Greetings, all.
While staying in Buenos Aires this summer, I will have a choice of a 4-day trip to Punta del Este out of three weekends: November 28, December 19, or January 16. How do they compare in terms of weather, nightlife, and hotel availability?
Expedia offers round-trip flights from Buenos Aires for US$300. Can I get a better price through a South American travel agency?
Does anyone know a website with a listing or review of La Barra hotels?

Nightlife and Daytime Beachclub recommendations in Punta Del Este? Posted: Sun December 30, 2007 02:21 AM UTC
I will be in Punta Del Este with friends the second week of January. We will be there Monday through Friday. We are 4 guys around 30 years old. We will be staying in La Barra. We are looking for nightlife recommendations for each night, and for daytime party/beach club recommendations for each day, which places are the best hotspots for each day/night of the week? Even some great restaurant recommedations would be helpful too. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Punta del Este for NYE Posted: Sat October 13, 2007 04:55 PM UTC
Hi,
My name is Clark. A group of friends and myself were looking for a trip to that region over New Year's. The trip would be an eight day spread. We are two couples and two single males with our ages ranging from 24 to 28. Our main drive is the Paul van Dyk concert in Buenos Aires on New Year's Eve night at Club Hipico. I am aware that Buenos Aires is not the place we want to stay for nights out on the town, and beaches. I was directed toward Punta del Este for that environment, but I still have questions. Is Punta del Este where we might enjoy ourselves finding beach parties, clubs on the beach, good food, and moderate activities to occupy an eight day stay? My main focus is to accomodate the two single males, as the couples will have an easier time settling in. Is the single nightlife something worth looking at as well?
I appreciate any responses.

Need Punta del Este help! Posted: Sun August 5, 2007 04:10 AM UTC
Hi
My name is Robert and I will be traveling to Punte del Este in September and will be staying a week. This is my first trip to South America. I do not speak Spanish. I would like to have a tour guide for one or two days to get me through any language problems and take me around the area. I am renting an auto. The tour guide does not necessarily have to be a professional, anyone with a mastery of Spanish/English will do.
If you know of someone who would be interested, please forward their phone number and/or e-mail address.
Thank you

Punta del Este in March Posted: Wed January 31, 2007 10:04 PM UTC
Hello. Some friends and I are considering going to Punta del Este for a weekend in mid-March. Will it still be a fun place to go then, with nightlife and all? And if not, what would be a recommended destination. We're going to Buenos Aires, and want another stop on our trip.
Thanks!

Punta Del Este - good time to go!? Posted: Mon January 22, 2007 04:01 AM UTC
Hi all!
I was hoping someone would be able to assist me with this - I am thinking about going to Punta Del Este for 3 days from around the 25th until the 28th of February. Would this be a good time to go there? ...in terms of still having a good nightlife - or would it have slowed down a fair bit?
Also, would anyone have any good suggestions on where to stay - we are probably looking at paying anything from low-medium price ranges in either a hostel or hotel.
Any suggestions would be more than appreciated!
Cheers
Steve

SF for La Barra Apartment Exchange for New Years? Posted: Mon November 6, 2006 10:16 PM UTC
I have read through all the postings and see that it is going to be quite difficult for my girlfriend and I to find a place to stay for a couple nights. We are spending two weeks in Argentina and Punta del Este and wanted to specifically celebrate New Years in La Barra. Does anyone know if there is a site to exchange apartments with people living in La Barra? Otherwise any suggestions for a place to stay would be grateful.

I'm looking for a place where I can walk out the door & onto the beach---relatively quiet, but with amenities (air conditioning, restaurant.....) in Punta del Este or close by., on the ocean side...for January 2007. Nightlife is not important, relaxing is. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks,

Living in Punta del Este Posted: Mon June 12, 2006 01:23 PM UTC
I'm planning to live in Punta from Sept to the end of Dec 2006 and then come back again in Feb. I plan to surf, work and learn Spanish to a high standard. I surf in cold water back home so that and a lack of crowds/tourists during the off-peak period doesn't bother me too much, actually I think I'd prefer it. I can teach English or work in a bar, so that would be the initial plan to prevent starvation.
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with info on the following:
1. the cost of living.
2. finding a job that would sustain me, especially on a ong term basis.
3. how to find somewhere to live - a apartment within walk of the Atlantic beaches preferably, but not at any cost.
4. how easy are the locals to intergrate with?
5. How "dead" is it during winter - ghost town or jus not crowded?
Thanks,
Conor
PS - If anyone wants to offer me a place to rent or a job get in touch

Staying in PdE during New Years Eve and January 2007 Posted: Mon May 8, 2006 05:52 PM UTC
Hi!
I'm already planing ahead to go to Punta del Este at the end of the year and stay for about a month. I understand La Barra is the most fun area to stay in for somebody around 30 years old and who likes to go out most nights to meet people, eat at good restaurants and have fun? By the way, is the downtown area not so exciting?
I would like to rent an apartment or a house - though I only need two or three rooms or so. It should preferably have an internet connection - alternatively are there any good cafes or simillar where you can hook up your laptop?
I would like the accomodations to be nice though luxurious isn't necessary. What is the best place to make a good deal to rent something like that?
I hope you are able to help me out a little - thanks :)
Chris

Traveling from BA to Punta: can I do better than Buquebus? Posted: Thu February 9, 2006 10:33 PM UTC
My wife and I are planning to travel to Punta from Buenos Aires on 4/1 and returning on 4/8. According to my 2005 Lonely Planet guide, BA-Punta tickets should be "$US 30-60 depending on route and class of boat".
However, on the buquebus website the cheapest tickets I see are $126 per person each way...which means a minimum of $500 total. This is going to take a larger-than-expected bite out of our vacation budget...
Can anyone recommend a better option for the budget traveler? I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
