Punta del Este Motorbike Info
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 06:14 PM UTC
Can anyone recommend a company for renting motorbikes / scooters? Avis, Hertz, and Dollar do not have them. I have yet to check with Europcar and Thrifty but it is unlikely. I contacted a company called Renting Uruguay and their prices were $110 per day, which seems three times too high. They claimed that without a reservation and prepayment nothing will be left on December 16.

Uruguay Uruguay Vs Costa Rica 18th November 2009 - ticket availability
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 10:51 PM UTC
I am arriving in BA on 16th November and the plan is to travel straight to Uruguay for a few days. While there I was hoping to watch the Uruguay Vs Costa Rica World Cup Qualifying Match.

What are the chances of getting tickets? I know it's a really important game and many Uruguayans will want to be there but its a big stadium (73,000) so I thought I may have a chance.

If tickets are available how would I go about getting them? Can you buy them outside of Uruguay or indeed away from the stadium itself? I may well be in Montevideo the night before the game so could buy tickets then.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Montevideo Gay/Gay-friendly Establishments
Posted: Sun October 18, 2009 10:55 PM UTC
I am taking a break from 2 weeks in BA the first of November and want to spend a couple of days in Montevideo. Am having trouble finding info. about bars, resturants, cafes, etc. that are gay or gay-friendly....although if they don't open until 2AM I probably won't cross their door! Also is the easiest way to travel there by Buquebus's ferry? Thanks for any suggestions.

Punta del Este Hotel Location
Posted: Sun October 4, 2009 12:35 AM UTC
Hello,
I'm planning to go with me and 5 other friends (all aged 20-21) PdE for new year's for about one week.
I wanted to know where would be the best location for us to stay.
We're interested in Nightclubs, Beaches and Casino, so I was thinking maybe somewhere near Conrad? Please send in suggestions! Hotel recomendations are welcome too, but what I really want to know is the ideal location.
Thank you!

Colonia del Sacramento Need help with Buquebus
Posted: Wed September 30, 2009 08:36 PM UTC
I am trying to make reservations for 4 people to depart Colonia for BA in January 2010 and I can't go any farther than the web page after I select "outbound only". Does anyone have any information to help me complete the reservation? We have heard that due to the time of year we need to make reservations in advance. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

Punta del Este Hotel Accomodation
Posted: Sun September 13, 2009 06:58 PM UTC
Hi,

Traveling to Punta with another couple the last 2 weeks in January. Would appreciate help with a hotel recommendation:

1) Looking for a 4 / 5 star hotel that is on the beach (or extremely close)
2) Ideally hotel would also be in an area with nightlife and restaurants
3) Ideally hotel would also have a nice pool

With my research to date I have only found the Conrad and Mantra as options and it appears the Conrad is sold out when we will be in town and Mantra may be a bit quieter and further removed from city center than desired.

Any recommendations . . . willing to pay up to $500 USD a night.

Thanks, Paul

We are planning on renting a car in Colonia. Is it better to book this in advance from Canada or wait until we arrive? What rental companies are the best? Thanks for the replies.

Punta del Este Questions about dates, flights
Posted: Thu July 30, 2009 12:53 AM UTC
Greetings, all.

While staying in Buenos Aires this summer, I will have a choice of a 4-day trip to Punta del Este out of three weekends: November 28, December 19, or January 16. How do they compare in terms of weather, nightlife, and hotel availability?

Expedia offers round-trip flights from Buenos Aires for US$300. Can I get a better price through a South American travel agency?

Does anyone know a website with a listing or review of La Barra hotels?

Montevideo hotel
Posted: Mon July 27, 2009 01:27 AM UTC
I arrive in montevideo with my mum late afternoon and leave the following night on the 7pm ferry back to BA.Where would you recommend a hotel thats not new and modern but a place with a balcony that really feels like you are in uruguay.
Also as we are only there for short time we need to stay somewhere very central to cram everything in.Is it possible to see most things in such a short time or should we organize a half day tour with a guide to get the most out of our stay.
sorry for so many queries...

Montevideo BA - Montevideo - Colonia - BA - Ferry Bus Combo
Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 12:06 PM UTC
Hi I have had a look at Buquebus and Colonia express sites and cant clearly work out if I can do following

1. Fast Ferry - Bus BA to Montevideo --- no problem on both sites
2. Bus from Montevideo - early morning to Colonia and then evening fast ferry back to BA. - not sure if I can do this - if you take a particular bus from MV to Colonia are you tied to next ferry.

Clearly I could take any bus from Montevideo by any company and just buy ferry ticket from Colonia to BA.

What Im hoping to do is take advantage of Colonia express returns which may let me do the lot for $165 .. one way tickets seem much more costly.

Not sure if i have explained this well but lets see what people think ?
Thank you in advance

Is it O.K. to take a taxi from the old town to Parque Prado & Parque Rodo and just wander around, or would we be better to take a group tour? I'm not sure how safe the parks are in th say time.

Uruguay visiting Montevideo
Posted: Sun December 7, 2008 09:54 PM UTC
I will be visiting Argentina in Feburary. We have only 16 days. While in Buenos Aires we would like to go over to Montevideo. If we take a ferry will there be a bus which we can take from the ferry to Montevieo? How long will the whole trip take. If we spend just one night in Montevideo, will it be worth it, or will we just be spending one day getting there and the other day returning.

If we have a day there what would be most interesting to do or see?

Muchas gracias.

I want to travel as inexpensively as possible from Buenos Aires to Colonia (overnight) then to Montevideo (two nights) returning to Buenos Aires.

If I use Buquebus how much would that cost or is there a cheaper way?

Montevideo Accommodation in Montevideo

Hi there, I've already a reservation at the NH Columbia hotel, but frankly am not sure that it's really worth the extra money...

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel (40-60USD), preferably ensuite rooms, central location (or alternatively near the beaches...!).

Any tips MUCH appreciated.

I am thinking about going to Colonia from BA for 1 day with my bicycle. How far is the beach from the town? Are there any worthwhile places to visit in the area that are "bicyclable" from Colonia?
