Munich Hotels in Munich Sept. 12-16, 2008
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 01:11 AM UTC
Hello!

My husband and I will be in Munich September 12-16. We are looking for a place to stay during this time. It does not necessarily have to be a hotel; an apartment or hostel would be fine as well. However, there are some things that are not negotiable:

1. Price: It cannot be more than $100 USD per night, and we would like to keep it under $85 USD per night, if at all possible.

2. Location: It needs to be close to the city center and close to public transportation.

3. Rooms: We will need a double bedroom with a private bathroom that includes a shower and a toilet.

I know this is a lot to ask, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Happy travels!

Munich Help with Bavarian Ticket
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 05:24 AM UTC
Hi all VTs,

For the Munich --> Salzburg stretch, I read in many threads that I can use the Bavarian ticket. I would like to find out more about the Bavarian ticket

My question is...
1) Where should I buy teh Bavarian ticket? I had trouble looking to buy it on the bahn website (nor the description).

2) I read books where you can buy the ticket locally, are seats guaranteed? Can you buy a day earlier and use it the following day?

3) If I got to Fussen a day before going to Salzburg, does that mean I need to get 2 Bavarian tickets?

4) Would you suggest storing luggage at Munich station, and head to Fussen, come back, and go to Salzburg the same night so we could use the pass? Is it generally safe to travel at night?

5) Is it possible to travel from Fussen --> Innsbruck --> Salzburg?

Sorry for the many questions. Thanks for your help.

Fussen Fuessen Train Station - Lockers?
Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 05:32 AM UTC
Hello! I'll be checking out of my hostel before seeing both castles, and eventually moving on to Munich, and I have a feeling I'll need a place to store my bag, in case the hostel won't let me. Does anyone know if the Fuessen Bahnhof has storage lockers?

Thanks!

Munich munich christmas
Posted: Wed July 16, 2008 05:41 PM UTC
Hello,

I thought you might be able to give me some advice on
Munich.

I'm planning a trip to Vienna on 27th December (about 3 nightes) and would like to know if the christmas markets are still open.

Do you still feel the Christmas atmosphere during that period.

Are most shops and restaurants closed from 27th to 30th Dec?

Would you recommend to visit Munich on these dates?

Thanks

Munich gettin hitched in munich!
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 10:00 PM UTC
hi vt's. we could use your kind help. my girlfriend and i are going to elope! Hooray!! and were going to have a ceremony in Munich.
neither of us are from Germany.
we were looking, to start with, for a few low-to-mid range hotels. we were hoping someone who is really familiar with the area could make a suggestion or two or three. Someplace quiet where we can get it on. but also still close to things so we can have a look see without taking taxis to get there. what else? um, a smaller hotel unless you can convince me otherwise would be best.

thats probably enough but i never listen anyways so here is another thing.

were hoping to head off into the alps for a few nights. any suggestions for nice lil places to stay within say an hour or two of munich?

time wise were talkin end of october.
thanks you so much!

Bavaria Total Immersion language courses
Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 10:58 PM UTC
This is more of a curiosity as I don't know when I would be able to do this. I have heard of these courses and looked them up for Germany and found quite a few. Anyone here ever tried and what did you think of it? As I said it is more of a curiosity thing right now.

Munich Travel between Munich and Belgrade....HELP! :)
Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 06:21 AM UTC
Hello,

I know i am asking for information a little early (traveling in december) but i always try to know as much as i can about what i am getting myself into. :)

I will be arriving in Munich on December 9th and will be traveling to Belgrade using the cheapest means possible, only problem is that i don't know what those means are (yet).

Bus?Train?Plane?Hitchhike?

I was planning on renting a car in Munich, Germany and driving to Belgrade but it seems as though none of the agencies will allow you to cross the border into serbia with a rental car(not even for an additional fee). Any companies in germany that allow travel into serbia?

Thanks!

Bavaria Train travel
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 09:03 PM UTC
I will be leaving for Europe in a few days (yay!) and have a question about train travel. While in Munich, I would like to do some day trips - maybe Salzburg, Regensburg, Nurnburg. I will also need to get from just south of GP to around Stuttgart. I've been looking at the Deutsche Bahn website, and often there are savings fares available - often much cheaper than the regular fare. I don't really want to book trains before leaving, though, as I want to retain some flexibility. If I book trains a day or two in advance in Munich, am I going to get stuck paying the full regular priced fare?

Munich Oktoberfest 2008
Posted: Fri July 4, 2008 09:28 PM UTC
Hello all,

Myself and 2 friends will be going to the Oktoberfest this year arriving at 8:05 AM on Friday Sept 19th and Leaving on Monday Sept 22nd. We already have flights and a hotel room arranged but are looking for advice on what to do on Friday. Are there any pre-Oktoberfest events going on that would be good for 3 crazy 40 year old guys? We would like to go to the Hofbrauhaus on Friday but otherwise we are open to suggestions. Also, we would like to see the Keg tapping ceremony at the Schottenhamel Tent. Are there seats available without reservations if we get there early enough? Finally, since there are only 3 of us there are no opportunities for making a reservation in a beer tent. Has anybody ever tried to make a reservation for 8 or 10 or whatever the minimum is and paid for the vouchers and then tried to recruit people at random? If so, did it work out?

I did get the opportunity to go to the 2006 Oktoberfest and had a great time but it wasn't on opening weekend. I assume it will be a lot more crowded. Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions/information.

Munich Bavaria Ticket
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 10:00 PM UTC
Hi All,
Can someone explain the Bavaria Ticket to me a little more? I understand it's 27 euro per day for up to 4 people. My boyfriend and I will be in Munich in late Oct and want to do a day trip to Salzburg. On the map, it turns from a red line to gray, and I can't translate what the key means. Is it extra, or just showing you're entering another country? Does this leave from the Hauptbahnhof station in Munich? Also, is there a Fussen connection through this? Thanks, and please excuse my lack of knowledge :)

Munich Oktoberfest Tickets
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 12:57 PM UTC
We will be in Munich on 10-2 until 10-4. I have been looking for tent tickets and am finding out that reserved seats are usually sold by 10 seats and I only need two tickets. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get tickets or has 2 to sell? We know we might be able to get into a tent if we go early etc. Any suggestions would be most helpful! Thanks.

Munich ATM machines in Airport

Is it less expensive to convert dollars to uros using a ATM card that has a conversion fee on a ATM machine, or using a charge card that has no conversion fee on a MVV machine at the Munich Airport? Also, I assume that MVV machines can be throughout the city of Munich?

Munich Parking and luggage storage options in Munich
Posted: Thu June 19, 2008 02:38 AM UTC
We will be visiting Munich for the day on a Saturday in July. We will drive to Dachau and visit the camp there. Then we would like to leave the car in Dachau or nearby and take the s-bahn or u-bahn into central Munich (Marienplatz). My idea is to leave the car at the Dachau Park-in-Ride (which is also a s-bahn station) and take the s-bahn into Munich. But I really don't want to leave our luggage in the car. I'm trying to find out if the park-and-ride or s-bahn station has storage lockers where we could store our luggage. Does anyone know?

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Bamberg Beer Tasting

We're being offered a beer tasting on a river boat cruise that stops in Bamberg. Do we really need a tour to do that? Couldn't we just as well stroll in the town and choose where we want to go?

Hello
WIll be in Munich for 3 days before heading to Austria. Just wondering what are definate 'must sees' on our trip. My fiance and I are in our late 20s so will probably check out the beer halls, but I read somewhere that you could get a train to the alps - Lenggries. How long would this take to get to from Munich city centre and any other suggestions for munich would be great

Munich Munich – where to park a car for a month ?
Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 06:02 AM UTC
Hi. We are flying for our holiday in Malaysia from Munich airport. We could not find any reasonably priced flight out of our hometown of Prague, Czechia and so decided to fly out of Munich and drive in car there and back. It leaves us with a problem to find a good place in Munich to park our car free of charge for a month. We have no fancy car, just a rather old Ford Focus, but still would like to find it intact after coming back.

We will come in Munich from north along higway A9 and would like to park the car on the street somewhere near some station of S8 or S1 train line. Could anybody please suggest a good vicinity where we would not have much trouble to find a free place (coming in Friday morning on August 1) and the car would not likely become a source of spare parts and/or children playground (I do know such areas in Prague). Thanks.

Munich How to get to the central station?
Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 02:07 PM UTC
Hi!
We are flying to Munich next week and than directly are going to Salzburg by train. We need to know if it is possible to take some kind of subway or other public transport fron Munich airport to Munich Central trainstation? And if it is possible to go by train/subway, can we buy tickets which will be valid for the trip to Salzburg there (I heard about so called Bavarian tickets)?
Thank you in advance for information!
