Cell phones? Posted: Wed October 28, 2009 04:28 PM UTC
I'm not going to bother bringing my cell phone because I heard that it would be really expensive or that it won't work. (AT&T from the US) But, I have heard that you can easily rent cell phones for the time you are there when you get to the airport. Is this true and what do I look for?
IF ANYBODY CAN HELP WITH ADVICE I WILL APPRICIATE THIS VERY MUCH.
ME AND MY GIRLFRIEND WILL BE IN LIMA PERU NEXT MONTH FROM THERE WE WOULD LIKE TO TRAVEL BY BUS OR TRAIN TO SANTIAGO , CHILE. WE DONT WANT TO FLY AS WE WANT TO HAVE ADVENTURE AND SEE SIGHTS ALONG THE WAY.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TRAVEL FROM LIMA TO SANTIAGO THE BUS OR TRAIN ? WHAT IS

We (2 seniors) will be spending the coming winter in Peru, at least one month in Lima (MiraFlores, perhaps). Does Lima get any sunshine at all during this time? Reports have been confusing so far.
We want to stay in self catering places , about a month in each place. Cusco, to see Machu Picchue and Sacred Valley etc., and one other place we havent decided on as yet.
Any suggestions for a third location? Suggestions for self-catering near Lima, and in Cusco, and third location?
We are in our late 60s and are wondering about the likihood of altitude sickness and what to do about it - non medical solution if possible.
I am currently planning a trip to Peru in January. Flights from Baltimore to Lima are very affordable right now according to what I have seen so far. But I am looking at flights from Lima to Cusco and they appear to be quite expensive. Its only a little over an hour fight but most of the rates I have found are close to $500. Am I looking to early and maybe should hold off and check again closer to January. Or is it generally that expensive to fly between the two cities?
ATMs in Lima Posted: Tue September 8, 2009 11:56 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm headed to Lima for the first time in 10 years. During my last visit, I had a difficult time exchanging U.S. dollars (some banks did, others didn't, hours were sporadic, etc.). Also, credit cards were not always accepted by smaller merchants.
Are ATMs a good way to go these days (keeping safety and convenience in mind), or should I exchange money prior to arriving in Peru?
On my return from Cusco my plane will arrive at noon at Liam airport and my outgoing flight would be at midnight same day. I would like to see a bit of Lime inbetween so I'll need to get out of and back into the Airport. What would be the best transportation way to do this? I would not be staying in a hotel in Liam so having the hotel call a taxi is out of the question. I normally take public transportation but was told the area around the airport might be sketchy.
late flights Posted: Sat August 22, 2009 06:22 AM UTC
we are getting off a cruise ship at 10 am and our flight does not leave back to canada untill midnight. is there something we could do in town until closer to our flight time. we have luggage too? why do all the flights to the north mexico .usa . and canada leave so late.?
Anyone traveling through Lima to Machu Picchu - August 23 - 28? any suggestions on what to do with afternoon in Lima? with 11 pm flight out of Lima, have 6-7 hours during day.
I'll be staying in Lima mainly to make my flight connection. My flight out of Lima is at 7 am and I have to arrive from Cusco the previous day. I'll most likely arrive at noon the previous day and will have to leave very early in the morning. Any recs where I can stay on a budget? The airport hotel seems very expensive. Do you think I'll be able to make my morning flight? I'm a little wary of taking taxis on my own in any country.
Also is there something I could see in an afternoon in Lima?
Peru trips Posted: Tue August 11, 2009 05:00 AM UTC
I arrive to Peru in December for 10 days. I will be happy with any tips on how to organize the trip. Do I need to book everything beforehand? Any suggestions on our operators. I want something inexpensive.
If I cannot book the trip can I travel by myself on buses or trains buying tickets locally?

My husband will be working in Lima Peru for 10 days and I will be going along but on vacation. Is it safe for an english speaking female knowing no spanish to be travelling alone? What type of guided day trips are available? I would prefer to be sightseeing with other vacationers rather than alone. Any suggestions? After reading about Lima on the internet it has made me a little apprehensive. Should I go to Lima and travel through the day on my own???? Would appreciate advice from people who have visited Lima and their suggestions. Thanks, Cheryl
My parents want to go to visit Peru but they are planning on staying for a month.
Anyone knows a good, safe and cheap hotel in Lima???
They are in their 50's and planning to stay 1 week in Lima and 2 to 3 weeks in Cusco.
Have anyone been in any of these hotels? http://www.cuscoperu.com/cusco/hotels-accommodations/041-accommodations-hotels-cusco.php and what about Cusco? do you know any of these http://wikitravel.org/en/Cuzco? Or maybe another one?
While in Lima I'd like to stay in whatever is considered the heart of Miraflores. Unfortunately I am getting mixed answers for where that is. Some say it is next to the Lacomar Mall. Some say I should be next to Parque Kennedy. Some say Calle De Las Pizzas.
Basically, I would like to walk out of my hotel and be in the main spot where the people are walking, shopping, dining etc. Almost every major city has a spot like that and I am assuming Lima's is in Miraflores. Is there a street or cross street that fits that description? Thanks!
I am planning a visit to Easter Island which requires being in Santiago Chile (only place that flies to Easter Island). Since it may be a long time before I ever get to that wonderful part of the world again, I am trying to add Peru as well.
I thought I would fly to Lima (since airfares are very reasonable), make my way to the Cusco area, and on to Santiago.
My problem is getting from Lima (or Cusco) to Santiago.
Round trip airfares from Lima to Santiago are almost $600 for the time I need to go. The bus is very reasonable, and I like buses, however it looks like it may take as long as three days which would be problematic since time is an issue.
I am hoping someone can offer some alternatives, creative or otherwise, which would allow me to get to Santiago at a reasonable price without taking three days.
Has anybody heard about cooking classes in Peru?
I would like to know if I could take a half a day cooking course.
Have you looked for something similar and have not found anything? Because I've been browsing the web and nothing so perhaps I could find one once I get there...
I wonder how much should I spend if find one in Lima... Any recommendations about how much I should spend? (cost including ingredients of coarse)
I'm in California and have been trying to send emails to a friend in Lima. The domain is "enlacenet.com.pe". Recently, all the emails have been returned as undeliverable.
Can someone verify if the company has gone out of business or are emails being blocked?
I am planning to visit Lima(Peru) and Machu Picchu in April/May time frame. Have few questions and need advise from experts.
1. Is it good time to go in April end May time frame weather wise, pricing etc
2. I would like to spend some time in Lima visiting (1 or 2 days), and in Cusco and go to Machu Picchu by train ( not by Inca trail hike). Any advice on trip plan, what to cover, lodging etc.
3. Any good agents that you can recommend either local in Peru or in US. I am on a budget constraint.
4. Any recommendation on doing this on my own (without travel agent), and advise
I will fly from Miami to Lima on May 20. My flight will arrive around 4:10am. I'm thinking about booking a flight(TACA) to Cusco departing at 5:40am. Can anyone tell me the connection time is enough for passing through custom & check-in? TACA doesn't have a lot of daily flights from Lima to Cusco. If I miss this one, I can be in trouble.
I AM ASIAN GIRL OVER 30, AND I AM TRAVELING TO LIMA PERU, (IS IT VERY SAFE FOR ME IN LIMA PERU ALONE). AND ANOTHER QUESTION IS
JUST TO LOOKING FOR LACOSTE SHIRT, I HEARD IT IS CHEAP TO BUY OVER THERE AND IT IS REAL ALSO. IS THAT TRUE. AND WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH IT COST APROXIMATELY, AND WHERE DO I TELL TAXI TO TAKE ME TO THE PLACE TO SELL LACOSTE SHIRT.
I am a middle aged woman and will be traveling with a very limited budget. I would like to buy imported eyeglasses. I was once told by somebody that there is some type of large market where everything from all over the world is sold there. Do you know it? Would it be safe to go?
Thanks for your answers and/or advise
