Hei, I will be in Tampere in July (18.-25.-7.) and would like to know if there's anything special going on there? Or a "secret" tip what to discover?
And I am planning to go to the coast (Reposaari) for one or two days, so please could anybody tell me, how much is the train or bus and how long does it take? Is there any cheap hostel? 10000 questions, I hope I'll get some answers!

I'm a student so, 50 euros per night is going to look costly. This seems to be the price that Omenahotelli is charging. Last year in 2007 I managed to find a place via the Tampere tourist booklet for 25 euros unfortunately it seems that particular hotel has decided to go somewhere else and is now charging three times the amount!

Would anyone be kind enough to provide me the Category D accommodations in Tampere tourist or know any place that doesn't cost as much? It all seems like hidden hotels....

Hi I am traveling to Tampere in Mid Novemeber. My flight gets in quite late in the evening and I was wondering if anyone knows about a fairly basic hotel close by to the airport? I am a bit of an in-experienced traveler and traveing on my own so i am a bit worried about check in time with hotels etc...

Can anybody please guide me about the climate in Tempere in Mid-Nov. What kind of clothes should I bring.

Also please let me about the good places to visit and about the night life of city.

I am flying from Dublin to Tampere with Ryanair, landing at terminal 2. Can anyone of you who recently used this terminal advise if there is a passport control booth which is actively manned?

I have a Schengen visa, but my husband can't make the trip with me (which is a condition for my visa...not sure if the Finns would read that German line on the passport or whether they'll just let me through anyway, seeing I have a Schengen visa). Only going for a weekend, and to get a new Schengen would cost €60!!!! (more than my flight!)

I need to decide between the Homeland Apartment Hotel Tampere and Omenahotelli.

There are a few good reviews regarding the latter, but only one regarding the first. Does anybody know if it is any good? Spacious, quiet, nicely furnished? What is the area like(for a single lady)? It is €15 per night more expensive than Omena...is it worth it?

Hi everybody! I am a spanish girl that is going to spend a month in Riga with a friend thanks to a clearship, then we are going to visit a friend of us in Helsinki. We have found an offert in Ryanair website to fly to tampere with 23 euros ( the direct flight riga helsinki is 70 euros)our problem is that our plane lands at 20.25 at tampere airport, I have read there are direct buses from tampere airport to helsinki and I have tried to read the websites with the timetables you have recomended in this page but some the service cant find them, or are in finnish or I have problems with the english version...Could you help us please, because we wouldnt like to spend the night in the airport waiting for the bus for the next day because maybe there arent after 20.25, same problems with the option of going to tampere bus station and then take the bus to helsinki. I'm thinking about visiting Tampere mid-February to do some cross-country skiing. Are there any good places close to the city centre I could rent ski equipment and spend an afternoon gliding through a Finnish forest?

Any ideas for hostels in Tampere? limited budget. Ive finally booked flights to Finland and i have to spend one night in Tampere then travel to my girlfriends university in Joensuu. or should i just wait the 9 hours walking around the city, till the first train from Tampere to Joensuu??

My mother and I are going to tampere 5th October - 10th October.

I was just wondering if there will be much to do at this time of year in tampere, we're pretty active (we're 22 and 44) and enjoy all the usual shopping, walking and all the usual tourist type things! We know about the park and the observation towers, but what else can we get up to.

Is it worth taking a trip to turku, nokia or any other towns? We'd like to go to helsinki but feel we should maybe save it for another holiday, so that we have more than a few hours there.

Any ideas??

Just wondering what the best way to travel to joensuu from tampere. Im on a limited budget and would love if there was a cheap airline flying between these two cities. However, I dont think there is. Maybe the train would be the best option, If anyone would know the prices or a link to the timetables I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

The distance between Vesanto and Tampere is only 264 km and Vesanto is not nothing (at least it has a church, a school and a disco - I know, for the complete definition of a Finnish city an ALKO would be needed, too) and Tampere is the biggest inland city of all Northic countries and 264 km are not an exotic distance in Finland. Is there any Public Transport between these two places the way that Tampere (or its airport) could be reached from Vesanto the same day until 16:00? Please dont tell me about hitchhiking or taxi - I mean normal Public Transport as expected in one of the best civilized countries in the world. The only thing I found so far is that in a distance of 55 km is the train station of Suonenjoki where the trains to Helsinki (with changes to Tampere at Pieksaemaeki) stop every second hour - but no evidence of any Public Transport between Vesanto and Suonenjoki). But what for example are people from Vesanto doing if they want to travel either to Tampere or to the capital Helsinki on Public Transport?? Bus pages like Matkahuolto did not help me at all. Please help me! Otherwise I can not longer believe that Finland is a civilized country with an adequate infrastructure.

I've got yet another transportation related question. :) Going to Tammerfest for a few days and I'm looking for a way to get to Tampere and back from Helsinki.
1) Where's the Kamppi bus station, that Express buses leave from? I know where the buses to Espoo are leaving, are long distance buses leaving from somewhere close to the 'Espoo direction station'?
2) Is ISIC, international student card, valid on buses, so I could get student discount? It's not on trains..
3) Is it true, that if I'll buy a return ticket, I'll get 10% discount on buses?
4) Where could I find a timetable for 'vakiovuoro' buses? And a price list.. If they're not that slow, I might consider them.
5) And last but not least - would I just be better off paying extra 15€ for return journey by train? After all, I'm on a budget here and Expressbus' 37,8€ return tickets seems to be most reasonable.

This turned out a bit long, but I hope someone's will be able to answer at least to some of them.

I am heading to Tampere in a couple weeks to spend a weekend with a friend. Would like to see some live Finnish folk music somewhere while there...anyone know of any places that might play some music? Have searched all over online but haven't found anything as of yet.

Also, any recommended day trips (or maybe even an overnight trip)? We basically chose to visit Tampere in Finland because ryanair flies there...so if there is any other easily accessible location to visit that might be interesting, we wouldn't mind going there. We will arrive in Tampere on Sat. morning and leave on Monday night...so just trying to see what the best options are.

Hi, I am staying in Tampere in February 2006. Have booked into Hotel Omena, Hameenkatu 28, which sounds cheap and cheerful. But it is not listed by Microosft Autoroute or some other hotel directories. It seems to be very cebtral but also very cheap - does anyone know it? Is it really in the city centre, and is it any good?

Hello, I am traveling from London to Tampere on Jan 23rd and my flight is due in at about 10pm.I wish to get to Rovaniemi and there is a train leaving to there from Tampere at 01.16 (24th)the same night.My questions are will I be able to make that train? Is it far from the airport there to the train station?

hey, i am planning to fly to tampere on feb 23 or 24 and my flight lands at about 935pm. i need to get to train station and get to lahti. there is only about an hour between landing and the last train leaving, think i can make it? any suggestions and is anyone else doing this trip at the same time? it sucks to be alone when your stressed.....
