| County Wicklow | Family History Visit Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 06:21 PM UTC
My family history includes ancestors described as being from "Vale of Avoca" and I have records of some being baptized in Arklow (although I have no parish names). What are the best resources for viewing parish records, as I've read that the parish priests are very covetous of those records and that libraries in Dublin are the best place to look.
Also, what about visiting cemeteries for headstones? Are they well maintained to the point that markings are visible? We are planning a vacation to the Avoca/Arklow region later this year and I'd like to visit the places of our ancestral home. Mike |

| County Wicklow | Seeking suggestions for best town to stay. Posted: Thu January 26, 2006 04:29 PM UTC
Hello
I'm planning to take my teenage daughters on a holiday in August. We want to visit Dublin but probably not stay there. I'm thinking that County Wicklow would be nice, perhaps somewhere on the Dart rail line. I'd like a town that would be a good base from where to explore the area. That means good rail/bus links because we wont be driving. We're looking to visit some nice costal and countyrside spots, plus castles, country house gardens etc. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions or advice. Thanks, Julian |

| Bray | Bray Posted: Fri April 15, 2005 09:47 PM UTC Hi, Apologies for this being not a travel-related question as such, but I couldn't think of a better place to ask. I am thinking of taking a job in Bray, Co. Wicklow. Is Bray an expensive place to rent a flat? How about the crime rate? Any other places I could consider living within a reasonable commute (30 mins max) of Bray? How about Dun Laoghaire ? South Dublin ? Also, what about public transport into/around Dublin ? Thanks in advance Kevin |
