Paraguay Visa for Paraguay
Posted: Mon April 13, 2009 10:38 PM UTC
Oi gente,

I am planning a visit to Paraguay latter this summer, and would like suggestions on two issues...a visa, and a hotel in Asuncion. As a US citizen, can I get a visa for Paraguay at the border...or in Buenos Aires? How long does it take to get one from the consulate?

As for hotels, I would prefer a smaller one, in or near the center of town. Thanks for the help!

Paraguay Help with planning 2 week trip in northern argentina/paraguay
Posted: Wed December 24, 2008 07:45 AM UTC
Hi, I am visiting family in Encarnacion in January and have never been to South America before. I would like to make this into a fun vacation. With plane travel time its actually less than 2 weeks. I have been reading tons of websites and other forums about things to see, but theres so much I want to make the most of my time.

I plan on definitely going to the Iguazu Falls, but thats as far as my planning has got me. I would really like to visit Patagonia, but I dont think ill have enough time.

Any ideas on how to make the most of my two weeks in south america by bus?

Thanks in advance :)

Paraguay Concepcion, Paraguay to Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Posted: Tue November 25, 2008 02:38 PM UTC
Has anyone ever done this trip and if so do you know how long it takes and an approximate cost?

Would it be better to fly from Asuncion to La Paz, I know the cost is pretty steep though. I've seen it around $250USD per person one way.

Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Paraguay Going to Bella Vista in Feb.
Posted: Wed November 12, 2008 06:40 AM UTC
We are going to Bella Vista in Feb. I hope I have the correct town, I think I found one that is Bela Vista. The one we are going to is on the Paraguay river. Has anyone been there? What can I expect. It looks like a really small place. I read on another post that there are river boats on the Paraguay. Who knows about that? I will be there for one week. How safe is it for a single woman to travel on the busses? I would like to go to Auschon, too, depending on the safety of the busses. I will be traveling from Foz De Iguacu by car to Bella Vista.

Does anyone know about hiring guides there? I want to see more of the country than just this town. BTW, I'm going with my Grandma's cousin. She is going to visit her missionary friends so I'll have plenty of time do travel around, I'll just be alone.

Thanks.

Paraguay Help! (Also posted in Bolivia)
Posted: Tue October 28, 2008 04:12 PM UTC
I posted this question on another website with only some questions answered. I was hoping someone here (or in the Paraguay forum) could help me with the rest.

I need help with my itinerary for January 2009. This is what I have so far, all the information I have is from these forums. I am wondering if anyone is able to help me fill in the blanks? I've done lots of research on these forums but I am unable to find everything that I think I need.

Buenos Aires to Iguazu Falls - 18 hours - 180AR - http://www.omnilineas.com/argentina/bus/retiro/puerto-iguazu/
Igazu Falls to Asuncion - 6 hours - $10USD - www.nsa.com.py/Destinos.html
Asuncion to Concepcion - 8 hours - $20USD - www.senatur.gov.py
Concepcion to Pedro Juan Caballero - 4 hours - $11USD - website?
Pedro Juan Caballero to Pantanal - How long? - Cost? - website?
Pantanal to Santa Cruz - How long? - Cost? - website?
Santa Cruz to Rurrenabaque - 20 hours - Cost? - website?
Rurrenabaque to Lake Titicaca/Copacabana - How long? - Cost? - website?
Lake Titicaca/Copacabana to La Paz - 4 hours - Cost? - website?
La Paz to Cochabamba - 7 hours - $4USD - website?
Cochabamba to Sucre - 10 hours - 60 BS - website?
Sucre to Potosi - 3 hours - $17USD - website?
Potosi to Salar de Uyuni - 7 hrs - $5USD - website?
Salar de Uyuni to Villizon - 9hrs - cost? - website? <-- train
Buenos Aires - 26hrs - Cost? - website?

Most of the time frames are for buses. I am open to taking trains as well.

I understand that I may have to take certain cities off the plan due to political instability. I would be very grateful for any information that people have for this. Also, any suggestions on how long to stay in each location (other than Buenos Aires).

Thank you!!!

Paraguay Exchange currency

Where can I get the best exchange rate in the Asuncion area? And will I be charged a different rate at a hotel if paying USD verses guarani? From looking online it seems most hotels deal in US currency, is that true? Thanks!

Paraguay travel between Bolivia to Iguasu Falls through Paraguay
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 12:17 PM UTC
We will be traveling in various parts of Bolivia. What is the best way to get to Iguasu Falls? I've heard bad things about Paraguay, but it appears that going through that country is one way to get there. We would prefer to fly. If we fly, what airline and airports?
thanks

Paraguay Taking a boat up the Rio Paraguay
Posted: Sat March 1, 2008 01:42 PM UTC
I am a solo traveler in South America. I am interested in taking a boat up the Rio Paraguay, from south to north. I am seeking both information on the trip, as well as anyone else who would be interested in meeting up for such a journey. Anybody interested? Are there agencies that offer such trips, or is it better to book passage at the docks? Any tips or general advice from people who have made such a trek? Let me know, and we'll talk more! I speak both spanish and english.

Paraguay Visa and Yellow Fever
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 06:17 AM UTC
Hi all,

Going to be in Iguazu on both the Brazilian and Argentine side in two weeks. I am leaving home tomorrow and do not have time to get a Paraguayan visa for a trip to Ciudad del Este. How easy is this to obtain upon arrival in either Foz do Iguacu, Brasil or Peurto de Iguazu, Argentina, and how long does this take...same day, overnight, 1 week, etc? Please let me know if my friend and I will need this and how to obtain. We are US citizens.

Second issue is the current yellow fever issue around the Iguazu area. Anyone know how serious the problem is for us? Just debating the $200 vaccination here in NYC. I'm sure it's worth it, just want to hear the real story from someone down there.

Thank you!

Asunción Going to Resistencia Argentina
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 08:57 PM UTC
Is this easy to do from Asuncion if you have a multi entry visa? Imagine you would have to take a taxi to a bridge and walk accross?

And is that city worth seeing?

thanks

Ciudad del Este From Ciudad del Este to Parque Nacional Iguazú in Argentina
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 08:52 PM UTC
We were hoping to take a flight from Asuncion to Ciudad (very cheap) in order to get to the Sheraton on the Argenina side of the Falls.

Can anyone tell me what to expect and how much time to budget?

I know CdE is a crazy city and I would have to deal with taxis who might not want to cross the border and a wild, conjested bridge. I would like to pass through from the Sheraton to the aiport in CdE as much as possible.

thanks

Paraguay Urgent for those visiting Paraguay.

People, there is yellow fever in the capital city, Asuncion. Get the vaccination before arriving to the country, since there is not enough even for the locals. The first time in the last 100 years (the global warming is making viruses descend to the the south?)

Paraguay Heading to the Mbaracayú Reserve
Posted: Mon May 14, 2007 12:55 AM UTC
In early June, I'm heading from Iguazu Falls, Argentina, to the Mbaracayú Reserve in Alto Paraná, Paraguay. My question to people who are familar with this area of Paraguay: Are malaria pills really necessary for this region, especially since I will be there in the winter? I was told that it will be cool at night, getting down to 40 degrees F. Can mosquitoes live at temps below 50 degrees? I've heard about horrible side effects from malaria pills and want to avoid psychotic reactions, vision problems, upset stomach, etc. Chloroquine is recommended for Alto Paraná but I'm not sure if I should risk side effects. Won't I be fine if I bathe myself in DEET and sleep with a mosquito net?

Thanks,
Lauren
