Lofoten Driving to Lofoten
Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 12:06 PM UTC
Hi, I am currently living in Oulu, so almost Northern Finland. My idea was to drive to the Lofoten for some days (spring/summer). Only I am thinking about how good streets are prepared on the way there, specifically when crossing Norways mountains, just before reaching the sea. Is there any resource on the net, where I can get a daily information about street conditions (maybe with webcam). It is snow and ice, that I think about...
Thanks! Christian.

Lofoten Rental Cars
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 09:07 PM UTC
It looks like the best way to get around the Lofoten islands is by car. Where is the best place to get a rental car at a reasonable price?

Lofoten Lofoten in November- where to go?
Posted: Thu October 18, 2007 03:35 PM UTC
I am heading to the north of norway in the last week of november. Mainly for northern lights, whales, scenery and some peace and quiet. The whale tours seem to go from Tysfjord, boats seem to tour from the south of the lofoten islands, not sure where dog sledding comes in and I was planning to land in EVE airport in the middle.

Is it easy to get between these places by bus or car? Can I pick up a rental on Lofoten or do I have to bring it with me and where is a good base to stay or should I move hotels as I go towards different activies.

I am aware it will be a bit dark. Is it likely to be wet or will there be snow?

All help very much appreciated.

Lofoten Ferry from Moskenes to Bodoe
Posted: Sat July 7, 2007 01:18 PM UTC
Hi,

I will travel myself from North to South in Norway coming Tuesday and will have to travel from Moskenes to Bodoe at some time. There are ferrys going to Bodoe, but when you want to book online (@www.hurtigruten.com), it says I have to book also a car with it. I am a little bit confused as everyone seems to be using these ferries also without cars, so I now I am asking myself if I have to find a another way of transportation or can I just turn up at the place where the boats leave and hop on to one? :)

Answers much appreciated.

Lofoten Hostel/dorm bed : close to Reine...
Posted: Wed March 14, 2007 07:23 AM UTC
Hello!

I like the scenery around Sakrisøy, Reine,
I'd like to visit Reine for a week or stay longer,
but I travel alone and I only can afford the accommodation under 250 nok per night..

I do not find any hostel located in Reine, the cheapest option is cabin for 4 people,
so I am thinking about stay in anothre place,
is that good to stay in Å hostel?
if I walk to Reine from Å, is there a nice route(*)...?
*I mean: a road without car, hiking trail, or a route just for walking....

Thanks!!

Lofoten Trollfjord
Posted: Wed June 28, 2006 09:02 AM UTC
as I've found out that it's worth visiting Trollfjord, I would like to ask
for some advice.
Is it easy to find a place on Hurtigruten just before its departure (for a trip from Stokmarknes to Svolvaer)?
Or maybe it's better to book a boat trip from Svolvaer or Kabelverg to
Trollfjord? What would you recommend me?
I will appreciate any comments :)

Lofoten Visiting Lofoten
Posted: Fri June 9, 2006 08:42 AM UTC
Hi,

I just read through all the posts here, thanks for the interesting info.

Me and a friend are planning on going to Lofoten at the start of october. The plan is to stay here for a few days (say 4 or 5). Main goal is to see the northern lights. And if we can maybe go on a boat trip to see killer whales.

Is october a good time to be going? I read somewhere it's not as cold then, but can get rainy? And how big a chance will we have to see the northern lights with the above plan?

Thanks!

Lofoten Whale watching and sea sickness
Posted: Sun September 4, 2005 04:29 AM UTC
Just yesterday I read in the newspaper about whale watching around the Lofoten islands and would really love to go there - especially since the recommended time to do whale watching is between October and March and that seems to be a good time for northern lights as well!

Well, now I am trying to convince my husband that that would be the perfect trip for him as well, BUT: he is very easily getting seasick!!!

Now my question: is the sea around the Lofoten very rough? I would not think so, since there are so many islands, but I would just want to hear from your experience!

Thanks in advance!

Lofoten budget touring in lofoten
Posted: Sat February 12, 2005 08:11 AM UTC
hi, My girlfriend and I are planning a Scandinavia backpacking tour this summer. We very much want to get to lofoten Islands. I realize it is less budget-friendly than other places (not that Scandinavia is realy budget friendly anyhow...). My question is - is it possible at all to tour lofoten relying on bus/train. Would we need to rent a car. And if it is necessary to rent a car in order to enjoy the island - does anyone have a recommendation for local car rental agencies or any other cheaper arrangement. and what is the best way to get in and out of the islands. I think we will take the train to Bodo, and we will want to leave through Narvik, because we will be heading by train to Sweden.
Thanks,
Roy

Lofoten Aurora Borealis - Northern Lights
Posted: Mon January 17, 2005 01:45 PM UTC
Hi :) We stayed in Fredvang the last time we were in Lofoten. Then, we wanted to see the midnight sun.... and did we indeed! It was unbelieavable. Now, we' are looking for the Northern Lights. Thought of going in mid March. What are our chances of seeing it and for how long do you think we should stay to MAKE SURE we get to see it? if Lofoten is not the best place to view it, what is? We're from Malaysia - so ... don't want to travel all the way and miss the opportunity.

Lofoten Staying in rorbus at Lofoten
Posted: Tue October 19, 2004 10:10 AM UTC
Hi, it's me again. I do think that staying in rorbus is an unique experience. But can anyone tell me how's it like (general speaking)? Is it "morden" enough for tourist? Maybe I'm a little bit naive, but it's quite important during the cold dark winter. I expect it is as comfortable as cabin or cottage, at least. Is it always with cooking facilities?

Any recommendation of rorbus around Svolvaer and Leknes? I know Leknes is a less attractive part of Lofoten, but it's convenience as a base for day trip. Besides, polar night makes not much difference.

Thank you.

Lofoten Transportation to Bodo
Posted: Tue July 20, 2004 05:12 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me whether there are regular ferries to Moskenes in the Lofoten Islands from Bodo. I (one person) cannot seem to make a booking online. I will be coming from Trondheim to Bodo by train and I only have about 24 hours to spend...I dont mind not spending too much time sleeping even !! I just dont want it to be a waste...for me to come and there be no ferries.

Can anyone help me out...by possibly providing me a website / phone number / ferry timetable.

Thanks a million !
