State of Sarawak Boats to Sibu from Kuching
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 10:31 PM UTC
Hello,

Does anyone know about boats that go up the Batang Rejang? We want to take the boat trip from Kuching to Sibu and have heard there are two that leave at 8.30 and 12.30 each day from suburb called Pending, not far from city centre. Is this easy to get to? Can you book the boats or do you just pay when you get to wharf? Is there any trouble getting a ride? We have accommodation booked further on and don't want to miss the boat. Also if we went to Bako Nat Park the day before and returned that morning and went straight to wharf, is this possible to catch the 12.30 boat or would it be rushing it too much?

Thanks for any help.

Kuching Which Park near Kuching to visit on weekend ?
Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 07:31 AM UTC
Hi. This August I will be about five days in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia and plan to visit some of the National Parks near there. In general I would like to spend two days in Bako and a day in Kubah/Matang and another day on Santubong peninsula; the last day I fly out at night I would like to go to Semenggoh.

Now, within these five days there is a weekend and I expect the Parks are more crowded on weekends. So I am wandering which of the mentioned places I should visit during weekend while avoiding the crowds as much as I can. I figured my best option will be to put those two weekend days on visiting Bako NP as I plan to go there early in the morning, take the Limau Trail, spend the night there at Limau beach (or the Keruin beach) and come back next evening - I guess, not so many people walks so far away and so I may get out of the crowds that way.

Could anybody familiar with the area to give me his/her opinion about the best itinerary. Thanks.

Kuching Family's first time to Kuching
Posted: Thu May 29, 2008 05:10 PM UTC
We are a family of 6 which consist of 3 adults, 2 children and 1 infant, will travel to Kuching on 16-17 June & 19-21 June. 17-19 June will be in Kota Kinabalu.

We do not like to stay in hotel due to cost and size of our group, want to stay together in one room. Ideally, a 5-bedded domitory or chalet will be suitable. Accommodation for 16-17 June already confirmed at Parklane Lodge. However, Parklane Lodge is unavailable 19-21 June. Is there any good suggestion of similar type of accommodation? Our budget for 1 night is not more than RM150.

Also, we are interested to visit the tribes. After enquiry from a travel agency, was quoted RM400 per person for overnight stay at Iban Longhouse. Although it's good to have a feel to spend the evening with the tribal people, it's certainly exceed my budget by a great deal. Is there any less costly way to do it? I want to hire a driver to bring us around for sight-seeing and nice local food. Any good recommendation of drivers? We like to have an authentic feel of Kuching. Please also recommend some markets that local people like to go.

State of Sarawak vacation in july
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:20 PM UTC
Hi to all

We are group of five and we are coming to Borneo in July. we are thinking of spending cca 12 day there. we are renting a car in Kota Kinabalu and drivin to Sepilok and than back to KK and through Brunei to Miri (5-6 days enough??)
From Miri we are heading to Mulu NP where we wanna see and do as much as possible in 6-7 days? You suggestions will very helpfull: we wanna see the caves, do the Head Hunters trail (is it doable in 4 days?), stay at the long house and do some canopy walking (demanding, huh:). so if you know any local agency that you can recommend we would very pleased.

Kuching Kuching Day/Overnight Trips
Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 08:03 PM UTC
I will be in Kuching for several days in March. I am interested in seeing as many orang utans as possible in the parks near Kuching. Any suggestions on where to go? I know about the Semengoh sanctuary. I am planning on making a 1/2 day visit there. However, I am looking for opportunities to see more "wild" orangs. Maybe by staying overnight at Bako, Kubah or Gunung Gading? Can one stay there overnight? If so, how do I get there? Should I book in advance? Any suggestions are welcomed.
I would also be interested in similar information for the Lahad Datu/Danum Valley area. Is there any way to spend several nights there in/near the jungle and NOT stay at the BorneoRainforest Lodge?? THANKS!!!

Posted: Sun January 27, 2008 10:39 AM UTC
Hello!
I will be coming to Borneo in February and stay there around 4, 5 days. Therefore I would really like to know, what to see there. I am deciding between Gunung Mulu Park (Headhunter's trail, Iban longhouse) and Lemanak river safari near Kuching also to visit Iban longhouse. Where is it a better experirence to see them living and their customs?
Thank you,

State of Sarawak Boats between Belaga and Kapit in dry season
Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 05:48 AM UTC
Hi, I need some clarification on the issue of boat transport between Kapit and Belaga when water in the Rejang river is low. I would generally like to come down the river from Belaga to Kapit around August 10. My guidebook (LP) sais that "When the river is low you will need to take speedboat instead" (of usual boat). But I have now found some information that nowadays, when the river is low, the boats simply stop running and all transport to Belaga goes overland. Please, could any knowledgeable person clarify this issue.

Also, if there are indeed no boats, is there any possibility to charter a small private boat from Belaga down to Kapit or from Kapit to Belaga and back (the guidebook text seems to suggest that there is always possible to pass). What would be the approximate cost of these options?

Thanks very much in advance for the replys.

Kuching First to Kuching, Tips required please :)
Posted: Wed October 17, 2007 01:09 AM UTC
Hello folks,

I have two questions and would be gratefuk if you could help me to answer:

1) Do you know any tours in Kuching and how much do they cost? Such as to national parks, adventures etc. I read CPH is one of the travel agencies does this type of stuff, and I would hope to hear your advice/suggestion.

2) We are spending 4 days in Kuching and plan to stay at two hotels, both Holiday Inn. We are deciding between Crown Plaza Riverside, Holiday Inn Kuching, Holiday Inn Damai Beach and Lagoon resort. I do not know which ones are better for value? Also we want to spend three nights in one hotel and one night in another. So whether, 3 nights in Crown Plaza/Centre or 3 nights in the beach side? Which arrangement would be better for exploring Sarawak?

Many thanks for all of your help in advance!

Best,
