I need to get from Bayeux to Mont St Michel. Is there public transportation?
Would renting a car and driving be doable?
thanks -

Hi all
I am hoping that someone out there will be able to help me.
I am doing some research on Mont Saint Michel for a book and I am hoping that someone will have the info I require. I am unable to get across to MSM until later in the year, but that means the book writing will be held up - so my question to all of you is:
Are the houses and other buildings in the Village still lived in by the locals or are they all tourist shops/hotels/restaurants?
If anyone can answer my question, I would be most grateful.
Thank you.

I'm doing my first trip to Paris and London later this year. I'm very interested in visiting Mont Saint-Michel. I was going to take a 14 hour tour from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel and back to Paris. However, I believe the tour bus drive to Mont Saint-Michel is roughly 4 hours long so there and back would make 8 hours of the 14 hour tour driving time.
I'm considering travelling from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel (via train and bus) and then staying the night there and then somehow travelling from Mont Saint-Michel to London to finish my vacation. Does anyone have any advice on this? It seems like travelling from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel to London would be faster then travelling from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel then back to Paris and then on to London.
What would be the best, fast, cheapest way to travel from Mont Saint-Michel to London?

We are planning our trip to Mont St Michel and can only find coach buses that have day trips, but we are spending 2 nights there. Does anyone know if there are any affordable shuttle services from Paris (Disney Paris) to Mt Saint Michel?
Thanks!

We are staying on Mont St-Michel on Sunday, April 15th, 2012 and have a 9:03 train out of Rennes on Monday the 16th. I am having trouble finding information that can get us there on time. Would renting a car be the best from Mont St-Michel to get to Rennes for that early morning train to Amsterdam? Help!!!

Does anyone know how to get to Bayeux or Caens from Mont St Michel by public transportation or if there is a shuttle service? The trains seem to not be working at the moment.

Hi there,
We will be at a wedding in Granville in early July and would like to visit Mont Saint Michel on one of our spare days. We're taking a train to Granville from Paris so we will not have a car.
Does anyone know the best way to get to MSM from Granville using train/bus? Is it a big hassle to get there without a car? If necessary I could look into renting a car, but if public transit is easy enough, I would prefer that.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi everybody,
My wife and I are going to visit Mont St Michel in September, and I wonder if it is necessary to book online a ticket for the abbey or if you can purchase the ticket when arriving. Also, we will spend the night in a hotel within the walls. Is there a time when the entrance is closed or we will be able to walk around (inside and even outside the MSM) until any time we want?
Thanks,
Ruben

I'll be staying in Broadstairs, Kent in June. Was wondering if I could nip across the channel and visit Mont-saint-michel without having to go to Paris first. Also interested in visiting Bruges (?spelling) in Belgium. Perhaps the Eurostar might go to Brussels and I could go to these 2 places from there. Any suggestions please?

Can someone who's walked around both MSM and the town of Beauvoir tell me please how much distance approximately is the Hotel Mercure from the Hotel St Aubert? I've done some research for buses from Pontorson train station and it says the bus will drop us off at the Hotel Mercure but not sure how much further the walk is to our hotel St Aubert. Google maps are incredibly useless for actual measuring...please and thanks!

As luck would have it, I have booked 2 nights at the St Aubert hotel (at the end of the causeway, mainland side) for April 18 and 19. Since there is supposed to be a full moon on April 17, what should I expect to see for tides and position of the full moon for the morning of the 19th, when I have planned to walk the causeway in the early morning to the Mont to take photos. High tides? Should I expect any problems walking to the Mont, and returning from it in the evening?

Hi all,
We are planning a trip to France in May this year. I would love to show my husband Mont St Michel as he has never been there. I was last there 12 years ago and probably things have changed a lot since then. The replies to previous questions have been helpful, thanks to all who posted!
Can anyone recommend a good place to have lunch or dinner, that's not a tourist trap, and as a bonus serves the omelettes the region is famous for? I recall La Mere Poulard being prominent when I was there 12 years ago, but have read recent reviews on Trip Advisor that its food is terrible and overpriced!) Many thanks!
Eve

Hello,
I am trying to buy a walking cane that says Mont St. Michel. A friend bought a carved cane from there years ago and would like to replace it.
Do you sell these canes or could you tell me who might?
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Roni

I have 1 day (2 nights) to photograph MSM. From the crack of dawn to sunset, I will be out there in April 2011 with my 4 cameras shooting merrily away. If you have been there, can you tell me about your favorite spot to photograph the mont from a distance? There's not a lot of photos of locations to shoot from, so that's why I am asking. I think along the causeway is a given (it'll be a full moon when I'm there, and I'm aware of the tide watch I need to do). I've seen some photos where the vantage point is from a little more west of the mont, perhaps on the edge of the bay? Is there a spot I can get to by foot? I'll do those photos at twilight when the sun is going down/gone down (oh and when do the lights go on at night?). Also, I've heard there is some construction going on...how much will it affect my shots (in april 2011)? Also, where are some ideal spots to shoot from WITHIN the walls of the mont? Thanks!

A group of us is planning to go to Mont St Michel and St Malo for the last leg of our France exploration between 5/10 to 7/10.
We have figured out the trains we'll be catching.... sort off.
05/10 7:30 TGV train from paris get to mont st michel at 11am.
7/10 12:13pm TGV train from St Malo to Paris.
My dilemma is whether to stay the night of the 5th in Mont St Michel or head for St Malo that night.
In the time we have, what do you guys recommend to squeeze in at St Malo?
Also I'm trying to find how to get from Mont St Michel to St Malo around night time. Can you direct me to a website or something? It will have to be bus or train.
Thanks Heaps!

Afternoon, catch the bus back to St. Malo for train back to Paris. Is it possible and good idea to do this or go to Rennes as I think St.Malo could be more interesting.
