Mont Saint Michel Late arrival
Posted: Thu July 31, 2008 02:28 PM UTC
Hubby and I will not arrive at MSM till about 7 pm in early September. What will be open at that time? And do they keep some sort of street lights on so you can walk around in the evening?

Thank for your help.

Mont Saint Michel Mt St Michel to St Malo
Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 09:07 AM UTC
Hey,
I am planning to go from Mt St Michel/Pontorson to St Malo around noon-2pm. I know the http://www.lescourriersbretons.fr site but they only have one bus in the morning and one later in the afternoon. There are also 3 trains but also in the morning and then again after 4pm.
Does anyone know if there are other buses or maybe regional trains that go to St Malo in the middle of the day?
Thank you!

Mont Saint Michel how many days? late august too crowded?
Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 04:35 PM UTC
Hello,
I'll go to france in august and i'd like to stay with my girlfriend for a few days in mt st michel. We were planning to stay 3,5 days in the Loire Valley and 2 days in Mont St MIchel. Do you think that it is enough? How many days I need to see all the atractions and sightseens of Mt St Michel? Late august (21-23th) is still crowded? is it unbearable? Can we sleep there (how expensive it'd be?)
thanks,

Mont Saint Michel Need help for Rennes-Mont St Michelle
Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 02:38 AM UTC
I need your help. I plan to visit Mont St Michel in June 2008.

I arrive in Paris on Fri June 27 around 9:30 am. My plan is to hop on the 1:30 or so TGV to Rennes. I should be there around 3:30.

At that point, is it best to take the bus to Mont St. Michel. I'll get there after 5pm? Or would it better for me to stay in Rennes overnight and head to Mont St Michel the next morning?

Thank you.

Mont Saint Michel storing luggage while touring?
Posted: Sun December 23, 2007 11:00 PM UTC
I am traveling from Paris with a group of students next month and we plan to visit Mont St. Michel on our way to another location in Normandy. What is the best way to store luggage for the day? We'll be coming by TGV train to Rennes & then bus to Mont St. Michel - should we opt for storing it in Rennes or is there somewhere in Mont St. Michel?

Mont Saint Michel Business Hours
Posted: Mon November 19, 2007 04:04 AM UTC
We are spending an evening at MSM in late February. What are the business hours for the shops? Do they operate on the same hours as the abbey or will they be open earlier and/or later?

Mont Saint Michel Need help visiting Mont-St-Michel
Posted: Sat August 18, 2007 12:40 AM UTC
My wife and I will be taking a day trip to Mont-St-Michel on our way to the D-Day beaches. I checked the SNCF website and we can take a train to Rennes from Paris. We then take a bus from Rennes to Mont-St-Michel (I think it is a bus - it says "coach" but it is via the SNCF site). I have two questions:

1. Will there be lockers or storage at the Rennes train station? We will have our baggage with us.

2. How close does the bus get us to the abbey? Will it go up the causeway?

Thanks.

Mont Saint Michel Best way to get to Mont St.. Michel from London?
Posted: Tue June 19, 2007 12:45 AM UTC
I'm going to be in London for a week, then France, using Paris as my base. I'd like to figure out the best way to get to Mont St. Michel for a day trip. Would it make more sense to:

1) Take a ferry to the town nearest Mont St. Michel and take the last train to Paris after my visit to the Mont OR
2) Go to Paris, and visit Mont St. Michel the following day

Thanks,
Emile

Mont Saint Michel From Cherbourg to Mont Saint Michel...how?
Posted: Tue February 13, 2007 11:50 PM UTC
I'm coming in to Cherbourg April 11 on an overnight ferry, arrive around noon. The information I've found on trains and buses from Cherbourg to Pontorson seems a little sketchy. Is there a convenient way to travel from Cherbourg to Pontorson/Mont St. Michel that is under 3 hours? I have a eurail pass but don't mind taking a bus if it works better. Ideas?

Mont Saint Michel Best vantage point to see Mont Saint Michel from afar
Posted: Mon October 30, 2006 05:07 PM UTC
I'll be driving from St. Malo to MSM in late November. We're think of spending the night and a couple of hours the next morning at St. Malo, then we'll drive to MSM stopping over at Canale for some oyster (hopefully some stalls are still open at that time?), and arriving MSM around 1:00pm. I've seen pictures of MSM taken from a high vantage point, will there be any of these on my route? Also do you think I'll have enough time at MSM? Am I correct that sun will set around 5:00pm at that time of the year? Thanks!

Mont Saint Michel Driving and Parking at Mont Saint Michel
Posted: Sun October 22, 2006 04:04 PM UTC
We are staying at La Mere Poulard Hotel on the Mont in November and are arriving in the evening by car. Where are the parking lots? How do you get onto the island? Is the new bridge open?
Just curious as I have heard horror stories of the parking lots which are submerged at high tides.
Thank you for your reply and advice.

Mont Saint Michel How to get from Mont St Michel to St Malo early in the morning?
Posted: Sat September 23, 2006 05:37 PM UTC
I am spending a long weekend in Mont St Michel, travelling by ferry to St Malo on 28th September and returning Monday 2nd October.

The night ferry arrives in time for us to catch a coach from St Malo to Mont St Michel on the morning of 29th. No problem. But on the way back, we have to be at the ferry terminal in St Malo by 10. am and the coach leaves at 9am, arriving in St Malo after our ferry has departed at 10.45.

Is there any alternative to an expensive taxi?

All thoughts gratefully received.

Mont Saint Michel Bus, Train, or Tour schedule to Mont St. Michel from Bayeux
Posted: Tue July 11, 2006 01:32 PM UTC
We will be staying in Bayeux for at least two days (Friday-Saturday, August 11- 12). I was hoping to stay in Bayeux another day and just make a day trip to Mont St. Michel, but I can't seem to get the sncf site to give me any morning train times to get to Pontorson for the Mont St. Michel connection so we can tour and take a train back to Bayeux in the evening that same day. Is what I'm looking for impossible? Are there any buses from Bayeux which might work for a day trip or maybe even some type day trip bus tour package? I'll be travelling with my son who is 11 years old.

I remember when I backpacked in France many years ago, I had this neat little book that gave me all the train schedules. Does this type of book still exist or is it replicated someplace online?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Mont Saint Michel Another tide question
Posted: Mon July 3, 2006 08:04 PM UTC
I'm going to Normandy in August and although I've been living there befor I've never been to Mont Saint Michel. Reading the tide schedule it says "When nothing is written you don't see any difference btw low and high tides" Does this mean we won't be able to reach it at all?

Mont Saint Michel Mont St Michel at night
Posted: Wed February 1, 2006 04:04 PM UTC
Does anyone know if it is still possible to visit the Mont at night? In 1999 there was a visit that included music and lights inside, which we missed. I'm going this summer and want to avoid the daytime crowds; the night visit sounded beautiful.

Mont Saint Michel Travelling to mont St Michel
Posted: Tue January 10, 2006 09:59 AM UTC
Does anyone know the best way to get to Mont St Michel from Portsmouth? Do I need to travel by ferry to Caen or St Malo to reach Mont St Michel? When arriving at either of these destinations is there transport readily available to get to the Abbey?

Would appreciate some help as I'll be travelling on my own for this leg of my trip.

Mont Saint Michel Tides at Mont Saint Michel
Posted: Tue October 11, 2005 10:30 PM UTC
Does anyone know when the tides come in at night during the middle of December? My husband and I would like to go, but we don't know how late we can get there without missing the evening tide coming in. I've requested information from a local hotel, but unfortunately they haven't gotten back to me. If you know what time the tides will come in and the latest time we can arrive, then I'd greatly appreciate your help. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Mont Saint Michel Normandy in two days. Need some advice!
Posted: Mon August 15, 2005 01:15 AM UTC
Hello! I am planning to go to go to Normandy for two days and I need some advice. The plan is to rent a car in Paris to go to the D-day beaches and spend the day there. (Is it worth it to stop in Rouen in the way to the beaches?) Then drive to Mont Saint Michele and spend the night there. Go to abbey in the morning. Do you know how much is the entrance? And leave to Lille where I am catching a train to Brugge the next day. Do you think two days would be OK? I am not sure if the route sounds reasonable or if there is another more direct way to go to the Mont St Michele? All the maps online say that I have to drive to Caen and then go to the Mont St Michele. What is a good online maps site? Thanks for your help!!!
