Quito Coffee for breakfast
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 09:11 AM UTC
While I was in Quito I developed a taste for
the instant coffee mixture that seemed to
be everywhere for breakfast.
It was added to a cup of steaming milk
and seemed to be instant coffee mixed in
with maybe cinnamon and other spices.

Does anyone have a recipe?????

Quito looking for suitable accomodation this summer
Posted: Sat April 26, 2008 10:41 PM UTC
Hello from Colorado where I have been a chalet host for the last winter. I took care of ten guests at a time from other coutries in a townhouse in East Vail. Basically I was responsible for the place, preparing, cooking, and serving three course meals, and taking care of whatever came up during the course of my guests stay.

I am just finishing work here and have some spanish lessons and volunteering on the horizen with The Yanapuma Foundation. The foundation was started by a man from Scotland whom uses is spanish school to fund his volunteer projects. I spent a month there last fall and am really getting motivated for a great summer in South America.

I have been looking online for accomidation during the last few days. I have found places ranging from hostels to apartments and am trying to get a list together to either book from here or to investigate when I get to Quito.

Does anyone have any expertise in this matter? I have previously stayed in La marascal but have been looking in Colonial Quito as well.

I am trying to find advise as far as good companies, schools that rent rooms to those not enrolled, hostels that are unique and affordable, etc!!

I would like to get my accomidation sorted out before I go. It would give me more time to focus on the language and get back into volunteering. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I am easy going and get along with most but also have a tendency to like privacy and quiet!

Thanks for the attention and I look forward to hearing from those who can help.

Quito Spanish language instruction & accommodations - Quito mid-June to mid-July
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 03:49 AM UTC
I am retired. I teach international marketing and related courses part-time at The University of Georgia in Athens, GA, USA. I speak Spanish at an advanced level - no problem with any conversation until the speaker talks fast or uses slang. I plan to spend mid-June to mid-July in Quito. Am looking for Spanish instruction and accommodations. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Tucker Cox

Quito Horse Riding around Quito
Posted: Tue December 25, 2007 11:07 PM UTC
I recall someone saying they owned an equestrian centre around Quito?

I just can't seem to locate that member now, and am interested in finding them again. If it is you, do you mind getting in touch?

Or if someone else knows of a good horseriding ranch in Ecuador, can you let me know?

Many thanks,

Cat

Quito OAT trip to Amazon and Galapagos-leaving Jan.1,2008
Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 03:36 AM UTC
Wondering if anyone has done this particular trip with OAT. It's 11 days; starting out in Quito, flying to Coca and spending 3 nights in the Amazon rain forest, then Hotel Reina Isabel in Quito, and 3 nights in the Galapagos on a small ship (85-95 feet) and small motor dinghies for wet landings during the day...or if you have any recommendations....

Provincia de Pichincha climate/weather in cloud forest during december
Posted: Fri November 2, 2007 12:28 AM UTC
Hi all,

I am thinking about going out to the Sant Lucia reserve in the cloudforest in the Pichincha region for a few weeks in december, to volunteer on a conservation/re-forestation project. I was wondering if anyone has been to this area during december and if so...does it rain the whole time? There seems little point in going if it will be pouring with rain and covered in mist the entire time, and maybe more beneficial to go at a time when the weather is better for working...can anyone advise here? Also, what are the temperatures like during december? Cheers,

Freya

Quito Internal flights from Quito
Posted: Sun October 21, 2007 02:13 AM UTC
Is it true that as a foreigner you are charged approx. double the fare for internal flights??

Is it an unavoidable tax they charge you upon checking in? Or can you avoid the surcharge by buying tickets on-line??

Cheers,
Cat

PS we are arriving in Jan 2008, and I'm working on an itinerary and budget now.

I'm moving to Quito in 10 days, I'm going to live there for about four months, and I don't have a place to stay (!!). Anyone who knows about some average prized shared apartments, or at least some information about where I could look for one (web page, organization etc)? I appreciate any help!

Quito Cotopaxi National Park
Posted: Mon July 16, 2007 04:07 PM UTC
Hello,

Is it worth going to this park if hiking is not to be done? I'm traveling with my parents who are in their 60s (yes, young enough to hike but...) who prefer easy strolls than strenous exercise.

If it still is, would you recommend a full day or half a day to soak in the beauty of the place?

Thanks much!
