Potters in Guayaquil? Posted: Tue June 2, 2009 02:33 PM UTC
Hello to those living in Guayaquil, and neighboring towns. I was wondering if it is possible to get into contact with a local potter.
I am working with a group of students from Clarkson University in the US, and Engineers Without Borders. We are hoping to bring clean water to a nearby town, and have chosen a clay pot filtration system. The only problem that we have in implementing this is having a method to fire the pots.
We think that the best way to do this would be to have a local potter fire the pots for the townspeople. We have it set up so that there would be no start up costs to the potter, and they could then recieve an income off the pots there after, perhaps even expanding to other nearby towns with similar circumstances
Any information that could help us find a potter, or another available method of firing pots would be extremely helpful.
thanks!!!!!

House Rental and Pay per Views Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 03:20 AM UTC
I'm traveling to Guayaquil for three weeks in December. Would anyone know how I'd be able to rent a house with bbq, pool, AC, etc. I'm on a budget and cant afford the stay at a hotel. Also, I wanted to be able to watch a fight on pay per view. Is it possible to order it and watch in Guayaquil? I'm leaving in 2 weeks and need help asap. Thanks

Hotels in Guayaquil Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 04:02 PM UTC
Hi All,
Can anyone recommend a cheap but safe hotel in Colinas de los Ceibos Guayaquil (near Urdesa)? Im doing a course and so will be staying for 3 months from this August. They have suggested accomadation but its more than $20 a night and I am sure that there must be hotels cheaper than this. I don't need the Ritz, just basic and safe. Anyone know of anything in this part of town?
Thanks Guys! Jenny

I Need Help Understanding Guayas Posted: Tue March 4, 2008 03:57 PM UTC
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I am learning about the Guayas Province and have come to the understanding that Guayaquil is the only city of Guayas and the rest of the towns are considered "cantons". Is there any way that someone could list the MAJOR cantons of tourism in Guayas?
So far I have:
Montaņita
Guayaquil
Manglaralto
Salinas
& Palmar.
Are there any other major cantons missing?
Thank You!

Lima - Guayaquil - Lima Posted: Tue October 30, 2007 04:06 AM UTC
Hi,
I've been reading up on getting from Lima to Guayaquil, and then back to Lima.
Does anyone have an experience or suggestions on the whether or not it's worth it to take a bus instead of a plane? I know it's 24 hours on the road. But a round trip flight costing around $500 is not easy on the wallet.
Any recommended bus companies? Any idea of the fare?
Thanks in advance!

Buying a surfboard Posted: Thu October 25, 2007 03:07 AM UTC
I would like to buy a surboard in Monanita, to avoid travelling beforehand with one. I know that they make Balsawood boards in Ecuador, but I need a shortboard, so am after the fiberglass or epoxy/tuflite type. Does anyone know if there are any shapers in Monanita or second-hand boards to purchase? And will I be getting totally ripped off by buying one there?

Hi - I will be in the Naranjal area the month of November - has any member been there and can you offer some tips on transportation, things to do, safety or anything else of interest? I'm not going to be in Guayaquil more than a day but see there's plenty to do there. I am looking forward to the smaller area of Naranjal. Thank you for your help! WWPat

Any irish bars in Guaya quil? Posted: Wed September 19, 2007 04:20 PM UTC
Dear all,
Im coming to Guayaquil for 10 days and would like to know if there are any irish bars in the city? The rugby world cup is on at the moment - so im trying to locate somewhere that might show the matches while im in Guayaquil and figured an Irish bar is probably the best bet, as im guessing rugby isnt a big sport in Ecuador.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

boat from panama to ecuador, winter of 2006 Posted: Thu December 28, 2006 03:29 AM UTC
Hi, A friend and I are riding motorcycles from Arizona to Chile, Nov, 2007 - March, 2008. Would prefer a boat ride from Panama to Guayaquil or another port rather than crating the motorcycles for air cargo to Quito. Prefer to stay away from Colombia. Also, Quito is a bit cold for motorcycle riding.
Actually, any place from Costa Rico to Ecuador or Peru would work out fine.
Appreciate any advice. Otto

Moving to Montanita Posted: Thu October 19, 2006 05:30 PM UTC
Hi All!
I am planning to move to Montanitas for about half a year so I am looking for any information anyone can give me! What should I expect to pay for a small apartment or place to live per month? (The cheaper the better) Eating costs? How is the nitelife? Prices? Saftey? etc. Is the water warm? Beaches clean? How is the weather from jan-june?
Any tips you may have would be wicked!!!
Thank You!!

Guayaquil versus Quito Posted: Tue September 5, 2006 06:31 AM UTC
I am planning a trip to Ecuador in the next few weeks. I intend to do a lot of birding, visit the Galapagos, and join the Quito Hash House Harriers for a run and some fun. While I expect to do a bit of the typical touristy shopping, it is the least important thing on my list of things to do. Likewise fancy resturants and hotels are not especially important. I was wondering what the advantages, if any, of flying into Guayaquil versus Quito might be. I expect to rent a car so I could always drive into Quito if/when I need to. The price of the airline ticket is the same either way, and I just want to make sure I go to the most appropriate place.

Rafting and Kayaking Posted: Tue August 8, 2006 02:08 PM UTC
Hello all, nice to find a forum where questions are really answered.
Ok well here's my situation im heading to Guayaquil on 20th Aug to meet a friend I have 7 days and i want to get some kayaking and Rafting done. Unfortunatly I realise this is not the best base city as google earth has shown me its immediate surroundings are not as ideal as Quito, also the fact that I will be there in wet season(I think) would lead me to believe many rivers being too strong !? Anyone recommend anywhere nearby that is good for these, or any commpany they trust ?

cerro blanco from Guyaquil port Posted: Tue January 24, 2006 04:50 AM UTC
Hello,
We'll be in Guayaquil in a few days with a ship, which docks at the port of Guayaquil, which I've heard is about 45 minutes' drive from Guayaquil.
I am interested in going to see some nature/wildlife for the day (we probably have about 5-6 hours free during the day).. I've heard that Cerro Blanco is very nice. Does anyone have any advice/comments? Is it best to go to Guayaquil then organize transport from there? Or is it closer to the port?
Is there a nicer destination option nearer to the port area?
I would appreciate any reccomendations. Thanks!

I will be visiting a friend in Guayaquil for two weeks, but after that I want to take a leisurely trip up the coast for another 4 weeks, hang out in different cities, towns and villages. Does anyone know if this is possible by bus and are the buses ok. I don't expect luxury but are they safe, etc? Option B is rental car, anyone know what that might cost for a month - sub compact, econo model of course. Thanks John
