LAL School Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 12:04 AM UTC
Hello, everybody!
I intend to spend some months in Cape Town by the end of this year. So, I decided to take advantage of this period to study some English. I made a research and found a school called LAL, in Sea Point.
Can any of you tell me anything about this school and/or the neighborhood (transportation, nice places to visit, nightlife etc)?
Thanks!

Car rental advice Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 04:51 AM UTC
Hi, I was hoping to get some advice/help on car rentals from Cape Town Airport to Port Elizabeth Airport. Any recommendations on car rental agencies? Anything to look out for? What type of insurance is recommended? What is the "excess"? Is it advisable to get any of the additional coverages or is it better to get coverage under travel insurance?
Thanks very much!

Safest place to stay Posted: Sun April 12, 2009 09:58 AM UTC
I'm looking for reasonably priced accommodation in the Cape Town region that is still (if possible) central to the area.
Is Durbanville a long way away?
In saying such, what is the Cape Town equivilent of Sandton in Jozy?
Thanks!

Best Surf & Turf Restaurant in Cape Town Posted: Wed February 11, 2009 09:59 PM UTC
Can someone please recommend a great place to go have a Surf&Turf dinner? Preferably somewhere that is easy to access from the city, e.g. the V&A Waterfront? Other suggestions welcome too though.
Price doesn't matter!
I am travelling with my boyfriend to Cape Town for the 2009 Lions Rugby Tour in June and the one thing he has requested is a yummy saffer surf&turf! :-)

Hi! I'm going to CT in May and really want to do a safari. Can anyone recommend several good ones? I really want the best experience possible, so am hoping for an overnight trip. And the more animals the better! Sadly, I also need something not so pricey. Thanks in advance for any tips!

3 Day Garden Route Tour Posted: Sun January 18, 2009 06:11 AM UTC
I am posting this question both in the Knysna and the Cape Town Forum, because we are looking into different possibilities to experience a tiny bit of the Garden Route while visiting South Africa this coming March/April.
We do have a pretty tight schedule, staying with friends in Cape Town, planning various day trips from Cape Town, weekends with friends and hoping to find just a little bit of time to see a little bit of the Garden Route.
Our wish would be a 3 day/2 nights tour from Cape Town to whereever (Knysna) seeing as much as possible (or as different as possible). What we do NOT like all that much is all this commercial/artificial kind of stuff: Aloe Factory, Ostrich Eggs/Farm/Riding/Petting..... if you know what I mean! And, what seems to make it even more difficult: we do NOT drive, so we need some sort of transportation other than a rented car!
We were hoping to either find a 3 day tour to Knysna and back or go to Knysna, stay there for 2 nights and book (half) day trips from there....
Do you have any advice, if this is feasable? Any Knysna B&B recommendations? Bus recommendations? Tour operator recommendations?
Any advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

Good eats and local foods Posted: Thu January 8, 2009 08:24 PM UTC
We are staying at the Cape Grace Hotel, and are "foodies".
Would love to try local fare.
Inexpensive to expensive, just great food that will introduce us to African cuisine.
Thanks

great white sharks? Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 04:07 PM UTC
Hi all,
I'll try and keep this short and simple. I'm 40 in 2010 and have already started to plan what I should do to mark the occasion. Top of my list is swimming with great white sharks, now SA seem the best place (if not the only) to do this. So is this possible all year round or just selected dates? My birthday is in July so would ideally like to travel then, but is it not winter in SA during July?
Many thanks,
Neil.

Whale Watching in late December Posted: Tue December 30, 2008 04:22 PM UTC
Hi all,
my partner and I are planning to visit South Africa in December next year. We'd like to have some whale watching nearby Hermanus, but we're reading on the internet whale watching in South Africa is done from June to November.
Is that right? Do you think it would not be possible to see whales on late December?
Thank you!

Temperature/best time to holiday/travel Posted: Mon December 29, 2008 08:04 PM UTC
We are hoping to come to Cape Town again in 2009 but we don't know when is the best time. We are thinking of 2 dates: End of September (for 2 weeks) or middle of November (for 2 weeks). We have been to SA before and very much enjoyed whale watching in Hermanus. What is the temperature like in September and November? when would be the best time to travel between these 2 dates? We will also be going to the Kruger, so again what is the best time? I have been given a brief itinerary which includes staying at Arniston (near Cape Augulhas) and then Dolphin Dunes - Wilderness - can anyone comment on this? From here we would fly George/JNB/Kruger - I presume George is an airport? can anyone tell me about this please. All of your help would be great, thanks.

Best route Capteown-Nairobi (in 30 days for scenary)? Posted: Thu November 6, 2008 12:04 PM UTC
Best route Capteown-Nairobi (in 30 days for scenary)?
I'm planning a Capetown-Nairobi trip (approx. 30-45 days) this winter. What train options do I have? Is there a route that goes all the way, or do I need to catch buses/planes at some point? I want to include Namibia (and the skeleton coast, highest sand dunes in the world up along the Atlantic coast of Southern Africa before turning inland via Botswana to Zimbabwe/Zambia, connecting to Tanzinia, and finally Kenya. Highlights of interest must include Capetown, Namibia, (via Botswana/Zambia/Zimbabwe) to Victoria falls, Serengeti, Ngorogno, Zanzibar, Kilamanjaro, and finally Nairobi.
What are the best connections, and how are the international, and national transportation services?
The point here is to capture as much scenary as possible, while at the same time covering the distance between Capetown-Nairobo (along the specified route) in 30 or so days.

Winelands Day Trips Posted: Wed November 5, 2008 06:38 PM UTC
Does anyone have any recommendations for a 'fun' wine tour departing from Cape Town.
I have looked at Hylton Ross, Cape Escape Tours, Ferdinand Tours and Daytripper, but don't really know how to decide? If anyone has been on any of the tours, what were your thoughts?
Thanks

How many days for CT? Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 10:37 PM UTC
We are driving to CT along Garden Road, so after seeing everything east of CT (Hermanus and such), will 2 days for CT be sufficient? Say, 1 day for Table Mountain and 1 day for wineries. Is there any other "must see" places?
Is is realistically to combine Table Mountain with drive to Cape Park on the same day?
If we take a chairlift to the Table Mountain, how long will it take us to hike down?
