Flat/Self-Catering/Apartment Rental desired for 24 nights Posted: Fri May 26, 2006 05:46 PM UTC
I am a nursing student who is spending three weeks with the Durban Planned Parenthood office (located in Pinetown). I am trying to arrange last-minute housing for the duration of my visit in Durban. I arrive on 8 June 2006 and my brother will be with me until 20 June 2006. My husband then arrives on 25 June 2006. We are in dire need of a cheap self-catering rental. We need to sleep up to 3 at a time (prefer a double bed with another sleeping option, such as a pull-out couch or twin bed or futon). We would like self-catering because of the length of the stay and do not want to eat out each meal! We located a flat rental on Gillespie Street but were told it was a bad area for crime (?). Any suggestions, contact info, etc. would be MUCH APPRECIATED! Thank you!

Shark diving and rugby Posted: Fri April 14, 2006 05:28 PM UTC
Hi, I posted this question earlier and later founde half my answer through my own research. The part I have left is if shark diving is possible in Durban, also is the weather still good for this in MAY/June (in Durban I know it is hot most of the time). Also, I wanted to know the dates for rugby season. Would like to get in a sharks match if possible. Are they still playing in May/June? Thanks

Lake St Lucia level Posted: Sat March 25, 2006 05:41 PM UTC
We are visiting the St Lucia Area in September. We were last there in 2004 when the level of the lake was very low and much of the wildlife had moved on!
Has there been any significant rainfall recently and the level of water risen? We would love to visit again but will leave in to another trip if the lake is still low.
Thanks for any information you can give

Hi,
I will be in Durban for a few days in May and I am interested in taking tours to Shakaland and the battlefields. I have found several companies on the web but they all seem to be very expensive. Does anyone know of a good budget tour company in Durban?
Thanks

Visiting Durban July/August 2006 Posted: Wed February 1, 2006 09:52 AM UTC
Hi
I have the opportunity to visit Durban this July-August with my husband for 10 - 14 days. Can you give me ideas of what are the best sorts of things to plan for this time of year. I know its the winter but will I still be able to have a "Beach Holiday" or is it a good time of year for visits to national parks etc. Also any general information on "must see attactions" would be good.
Thank you for your help

Scooter rental in Durban Posted: Mon January 23, 2006 03:17 AM UTC
Could anyone help me with regards to scooter rental in Durban. I am due for a holiday out there for a freinds wedding this coming August. I unfortunately do not have a driving license but I have a scooter license. How safe is it to travel around by scooter. I have tried to look for scooter rental companies on the internet but to no avail. Anyone know of any local website addresses I could search on? I am looking to ride down from Durban to the South Coast (Margate) Is it safe for a female to do on her own. Obviously it would be done in the day time. If anyone could help me with any ideas it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Setting stipend amount Posted: Tue November 1, 2005 02:31 PM UTC
We are budgeting for a young intern to live in Durban on a modest stipend. Is R4370 adequate? She is paying for her car and auto expenses out of her own savings so transportation should not be included in the estimate. We would like her to share a flat. Please let me know if this sounds reasonable. Many thanks!

Thinking about studying Homepathy at the Durban Institute of Technology Posted: Tue June 28, 2005 03:25 PM UTC
Hi there everyone
I am thinking about coming to Durban for 6 years study. Any information about Durban would be very useful. I must say I am wavering over my decision because of the dangerous areas in Durban and S. Africa in general. Also the AIDS epidemic. However I am sure it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Does the Durban Institue of Technology have a good reputation for homeopathy? Is it situated in a safe area. If I was to buy a house or flat would I need security? I have a thousand questions.
Please give me a realistic idea as to the dangers of Durban over a 6 year period and also the good things! As you can see I am most worried about safety, being a female from the U.K. moving alone.
Thanks!

Moving to Durban...looking to surf Posted: Sat April 30, 2005 11:56 AM UTC
I am going to be spending a semester august through december in Durban. I was hoping to find an inexpensive appartment not to far from a beach with good surf, but also within reasonable distance of the Kwazulu Natal Uni. Could anyone recommend an area that might meet these protocols, and how to go about finding an apartment via internet/telephone? Or I have the chance to live in the Uni dorms and try to buy a cheap car for going to the beach, which option would you recommend?
Thanks for your help

Hiya, need some advice on driving trip to Drakensburg - intending to do it in mid-august this year - not into hiking but more of a driving trip to look around the area - any ideas how long I should allow to fit in all the splendour of the Drakensburg? Is the weather at this time ok since it is spring(?) - any wildflowers out at this time?

Transport in Durban Posted: Sun October 24, 2004 10:36 AM UTC
Hi,
We are planning for a short visit to Durban over the Xmas break. But I want to find out how easy/difficult it is to get around in Durban. What kind of transportation is availble within the town? Is it fairly affordable and easy to use? Is it safe? Is it possible to cover the major attractions with this transport?
Thanks

3 Continents Posted: Fri October 8, 2004 10:31 AM UTC
Hi there, was wondering if anyone could help to fill in my itinerary. I'm travelling to Los Angeles,on to Oz and then finally South Africa. I will be in durban between 25th Dec and 30th Dec 2004. I have tickets for the test match at that time but require digs (not too expensive). What are the average costs and are there any special events coming up, best sights to see, best boozers, etc. Any info would be appreciated Cheers Dave

Best and worst of Durban Posted: Tue September 14, 2004 09:35 AM UTC
Hi everyone I am a virtual tourist virgin and this is my first question, me and my wife are visiting Durban next month and I would like to know the best places to drink (real ale) and eat (mainly fish). We hear that it is very good value for money, how good? The second part of my question is where to avoid, and what are the dangers and how common? (muggings etc.)

Sunscreen factor for Durban Posted: Mon May 24, 2004 12:31 PM UTC
Got a great first-time trip lined up! I'm visiting in the height of your summer: mid-Dec to mid-Jan. Based in Durbs, and will visit Kruger, Drakensburg, Eastern Transvaal.
What sunscreen factor do you advise for not-completely-pale fair skin?
When I visited Brazil at the height of their summer, albeit only 10 degrees from the equator, I was advised to use factor 25. Is it the same in Durban?
Thanks
Steve

Durban and beaches Posted: Fri May 21, 2004 08:41 AM UTC
Hi all! We're going to visit South Africa during July. We plan to stop in Durban and we just wonder if it's possible to go to the beach and get into the water in July. During that period average high temperatures seems to be good (23 °C).
Thanks for any help, Mirko.
