Durban World Cup Trip June 2010
Posted: Mon May 25, 2009 02:17 PM UTC
Great news with the ticket application, I got 3 x tickets for 5 different matches in Durban. Myself and two friends will be staying in Durban for approx 2 weeks and I have a few questions.

1. I assume the city centre is a place to avoid, what suburbs or nearby places are safe? (for example, I've heard Umhlanga Rocks is the place to go??)

2. Is Durban getting any special activities etc to help entertain the 1000's of extra visitors?

3. Any pictures of the new stadium?

Thanks for your help. looking forward to it already.

Durban Travelling around Durban Alone
Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 02:55 PM UTC
Hi, I am in Durban for 6 weeks. I have come alone from india officially. I want to see places like Durban city, Ushaka marine world, Drekensberg mountains, National parks, beaches etc. during the weekends. Are there any scheduled tours that allow single travelers? I dont want to take a cab and go alone as it would become expensive. Any help?

Durban Game reserves
Posted: Sat February 21, 2009 09:57 PM UTC
Hi, we are cruising to South Africa and one of our stops allows us to go to a game reserve for the day. The choices we have are Thula Thula game reserve and Hluhluwe-umfolozi park. Can anyone tell me the difference between these two parks or which one might be better. Thula Thula is more expensive to visit, is this because it is a private park or is it better? Any help would be appreciated.

Durban self-catering accommadation for june/july (roughly 5 weeks)
Posted: Mon January 12, 2009 08:52 PM UTC
hi
Me and my friend will be doing a medical elective in one of the hospitals in durban from 22 june for 5 weeks. We will be requiring a place to stay for this period. Ideally near the city centre. As we are both students the cheaper the better... but also safety is important. Can anyone recommend anywhere and perhaps rough prices?
Thanks

Durban Durban weekend w/o a car?
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 01:51 PM UTC
I'll be flying into Durban for the weekend of March 15/16, staying at a guest house in Musgrave. I was not planning to rent a car for this visit, since it just seems like more trouble than it's worth for such a short stay.

With no car, what kinds of activities could I think about for Saturday? I have read tons of VT tips, but I'm not sure what would be appropriate. The aquarium is a possibility, but I prefer to do more outdoor, wandering-around type stuff. Are there cool areas of Durban that I could grab a cab to and just walk around and sightsee? The Botanical Garden sounds interesting, but I don't know where it is or if I can get there with no car.

Also--it seems like I am getting there in the height of the rainy season. Should I be expecting massive rain on these days? If so I might just stay in my room! :-)

Durban Boar War Battlefield sites
Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 10:15 AM UTC
Follow our visit to the Hluhluwe Park we want to go to the Boar War sites around Ladysmith. From what I have read, they are difficult to find and a guided tour is recommended. Does anyone know if it is possible to join a group tour rather than do it on an individual basis. Thanks

Durban Internship in Durban
Posted: Mon August 20, 2007 08:21 AM UTC
Hi everyone!
I'm from moscow (Russia) I've got an internship offer with consulting company in Durban. i really wanna go, but everybody says that the crime is really high there. is that true or as always exaggerated. how safe is it for a young girl who lives alone? (though the company promised to locate me in the safest district). The office is located in Overport City. is it safe area?
How much is the car rent? what is budget option to buy a car?
The R1000 living allowance is enough? Can i live on R5000 per month (excl. appartment).
I have so many questions, because i've never been to africa. though i have a rich experience of traveling and living abroad.
all the answers are highly appreciated. thanks,
Maria

Durban Easy & safe route from Umhlanga Rocks to Berea / Musgrave?
Posted: Sat June 9, 2007 07:14 AM UTC
Hi there,

We will need to get from Umhlanga Rocks to Essenwood Road in Berea. Can anyone recommend an easy-to-follow and safe route? We're very new, nervous, and don't want to risk taking a wrong turn into any bad parts of town. Can anyone also recommend a safe place to park in the area? Thanks!

Durban Working and Settling down in Durban
Posted: Tue April 10, 2007 06:56 AM UTC
Hi All

I have been reading quite interesting bits of information about South Africa and Durban in particular.

Actually I am planning to move to Durban as I have a job offer. I guess you guys would be the right people to guide me on the scenario in Durban

- Keep reading about the high crime rate in Durban. Please tell me, seriously, how bad is it? or is it exaggerated too much. This must be one pertinent question that foreigners must be asking. My reason being I would be moving in with my family

- Are there areas which one must really avoid going to.

- Is it like all the areas are risky.

- How good is it for settling down with families - specially schooling etc.

- What level of income would be enough to live comfortably.

Durban Suche dringend Kontakt zu Deutschsprachigen in Durban/Bluff - Brighton Beach
Posted: Fri November 17, 2006 10:26 PM UTC
Hallo,

Durban Driving to Richard's Bay
Posted: Wed July 26, 2006 11:36 PM UTC
Hi! We are arriving in Durban Mid-August. We plan to spend a couple evenings there, then drive to Richard's Bay, by way of a one-night stay in Shakaland.

Can anyone tell me if any part of that plan has a "downside" -- like bad roads on the way...whatever comes to mind? I appreciate any input. Thank you!
