Bogotá A very short visit to Bogota - where to go, what to do?
Posted: Sat October 4, 2008 05:29 PM UTC
I will be in Bogota for a business meeting next week, so I have available Thursday (since I arrive 5am) and Saturday. I know, it is not enough time to see any new city/country, but that's all I have :-)

So, any advices on the "must see" things?

I am "outdoorish" type in general, are there some trips I should take out of the city? So far the candidate is Zipaquirá/Guatavita. Any advice on tour operators?

PS how long does it usually take to go through the immigration/customs in the Bogota airport?

Thank you all in advance!

Bogotá Santa Fe Barrio
Posted: Fri August 22, 2008 09:26 PM UTC
We are visiting Bogota in September and have two choices:

Go on a charter package and stay at the
Hotel Santa Monica in Barrio Santa Fe (Carrera 3a 24-11)

or

Buy our own tickets and find another hotel.

The Charter package is cheaper, but I can't find anything on the neighborhood or the hotel? Is it in a safe place?

Bogotá danger in bogota
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 07:10 PM UTC
Hi, I will go with my husband and my kids to Bogota. I just start to worry a bit much about the fact that so many tourists are being kidnapped on a regular base in the country. Is the city itself safe or is the farc also very present in the city? Is it very dangerous to be there with 2 small kids?

Bogotá Tight Connection
Posted: Tue June 10, 2008 08:52 PM UTC
Hello - I thought I would pose this question just in case someone has had experience in this issue. I am looking at flight from Washington, DC to Lima, Peru and found flights on the return on Avianca Aerovias via Bogota. The connection on the flights is only 35 min. Normally, I wouldn't choose such a tight connection, but it seems like a regular part of the schedule. Has anyone has such a tight connection in Bogota and/or aboard Avianca Aerovias? Although I may be able to get myself onboard, I doubt my luggage would make the connection. Thank you for any input!

I have a small business in the states that will allow me to live in Bogota for 2 or 3 months at a time befor i need to return to the states for a couple weeks. I would like to do this in the next 8 months so i am trying to plan for as much as i can. I do not need to live like a king but i also do not want to live in the slums.. I am planing on haveing a 2500 dollar a month(US) as my monthly buddget. am I being crazy thinking this will be enough? how much do i really need for a monthly budget(rent, utilitys, cell phone, food, entertainment, and what ever else i might need)? please give me advise on this matter. I plan on letting my girlfriend do the renting as i understand it can be difficult for a gringo to rent in Bogota. if any onr has any ideas on a good place to rent it would be great ( in the north or close to would be great....again thanks for the advise ....Sin Gringo in love with a Rolla....

Looking for an online site or discount farmacies that have good prices on prescription drugs. Can't seem to find anything online. Prices here seem to be about the same as the States and triple those in Argentina.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Bogotá What is a better/more fun area to stay? Zona Rosa or Park 93?
Posted: Sat February 10, 2007 03:30 PM UTC
Hi VT,

I am contemplating 2 hotels in Bogota: 1 in calle 82 in Zona Rosa, and the other in Calle 93 by Parque 93. I want to live close to nice, safe night clubs and restaurants and somewhere that I can safely take walks around at night. Which area would you say is better, or are they both about the same? Can you walk between these 2 districts at night, or should one take a taxi?

Thanks very much

Bogotá Looking for Information about where to stay, safety concerns, and trendy areas
Posted: Thu February 1, 2007 02:46 AM UTC
I am sixteen and am traveling with my father to Bogota and am a little unsure of where to stay. We are looking for a nice hotel in a vibrant, yet secure, area. I have read about some of the malls recieving bomb threats and am a little concerned but reading other peoples comments i suppose a little common sense should work just fine. Is this a fair assumption? I would also like to know if their are any cool daytrips that would be interesting.
Any reply would be well appreciated
thanks

Bogotá Lone female traveller seeking other travellers - and info!
Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 03:27 PM UTC
hi, I will be travelling to Bogota at the end of March for 4-7 days and I am firstly seeking other female travellers who would like to join me. I usually travel accompanied and therefore i'm looking for others planning to travel around the same time. I am going there on the way to meeting friends in Brazil.

It seems like a very beautiful country, my business there (nothing dodgy I add!) will only be for one day, and I'm looking for information about the best way to spend the rest of the time (4-7 days depending on how long I decide). What are the best websites to look at and the best sites to visit? I look forward to hearing back from you!

Bogotá taking a taxi from the airport to downtown
Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 02:24 PM UTC
Hi all.

I'm Spanish - and therefore, Spanish-fluent and I'm planning a visit to Colombia this year.

I would be traveling alone. But I'm a bit afraid about security. Although I'll be taking flights between cities (too much scared to take a bus), I'll have at least to take a taxi from the airport to the city center.

Would it be safe to take a taxi from the Bogotá airport to downtown? How long is this trip? Can I trust taxi drivers? Any risk of being robbed, ripped off or even kidnapped during this trip?

I would like to ask the same question again for other cities in Colombia that I plan to visit: Medellín, Manizales, Pereira, Cali.

Thank you in advance for your advices.

Regards.
